Chapter 3! It came out a little early which is fine to me. Hope y'all enjoy.
Ryder sat in his office thinking about how to retrieve that diamond. Working on this is like asking an artist to do a mechanic's job. He had little to no experience in police work. Gasket struck at random and in the middle of the day or late at night. Quite literally unpredictable. Last thing Ryder expected was company.
knock knock*
"Come in!" Ryder calls out still looking at the map of Adventure Bay. He had marked down every single break in. Not even the lookout was safe.
"Hey Ryder sir! Can I go out to farmer Al's farm?" Chase asked as he tapped his paw.
Ryder didn't mind him going out anywhere. Chase was by far the most responsible pup on the team. "Why are you going there?"
Chase gave Ryder a puzzled look. "Do you not remember?" Chase asked.
Ryder simply shook his head. He didn't have a clue what the special occasion was. "The herding competition."
Ryder looked at his calendar. May 16th had a circle around it. "I forgot..." he nervously chuckled. "This whole Gasket thing is getting in the way."
"Yeah, I don't get how one could be so consistently inconsistent." Chase replied as he trotted out.
Ryder sighed. Surprisingly Chase's statement kinda made sense. He needs a new tactic.
6 pups sat in a circle. The couples of the PAW patrol were going to find out which is the superior couple. "This feels unfair..." Rocky sighed. Skye gave him a stare that would make anyone scared.
He quickly thought of a solution to fix his error. "I'm not saying Skye is a bad girlfriend I'm just saying that most of the thing we are doing are physical activity and Skye is like half of everyone's size. She has a genetic disadvantage. I'm probably the strongest male here though so it might help out." Rocky explained finding a way to throw Marshall and Zuma under the bus.
Marshall and Zuma let out a groan. "You definitely awe not the stwongest" Zuma objected.
Rocky gave Zuma an evil smile. "You and Marshall are just simple probably purebred dogs. Everyone here probably is, besides me. Who knows what I am. Definitely either German Shepherd, Malinois, or some sort of husky thing." Rocky said completely shutting down Zuma's objection. Zuma glared at him. "Shall we get started?" Rocky smirked. They all stood up ready to show Rocky that brains isn't everything.
They heard and engine rev and saw Chase drive off. "Since you're so mixed...could you beat Chase?" Marshall asked.
Rocky already knew the answer. "Never." He replied.
"Why not?" Zuma asked.
"Can we just start already?!? You guys getting butthurt over Rocky is getting annoying!" Ella groaned.
Everest was thankful Ella said something. "Thank you."
Chase jumps out of his cruiser to see 3 dogs running around the field barking and leading sheep. He could see a very familiar face that worried him. It was an Australian cattle dog and Australian Shepherd mix. Not just any mixed dog... it was California's best sheep herder.
Chase watched in awe as she outpaced two older Australian cattle dogs. "Hey Chase! Glad to see that you made it!" Farmer Al exclaimed as he dug his pitchfork into the dirt. "Hey Farmer Al."
"Watching Iris and her unmatched skill I see. It's amazing to watch. Might have to get a cattle dog myself to be frank." Farmer Al said as he sighed to the sight of herding.
"She's competing in next week's tournament. They are looking for a good enough mate for her. I think you could be the one." Al chuckled.
"No, plus I don't have time. Gasket is on the loose and we need to stop her." Chase replied.
Farmer Al lightly pushed Chase with his leg. "I'm joking. Rats are pesky little things. They keep showing up because of the litter that those houses leave." Farmer Al sighed.
Chase didn't feel like being outshined at the moment. "I could help catch some of them. The presence of a predator might scare them off for a couple of days." Chase suggested.
Farmer Al gave Chase a smirk. "You don't want to embarrass yourself don't you?" He asked.
Chase didn't reply. They trotted into the barn and Chase started to sniff around. "We're killing them right?" Chase whispered as he stealth walked around to a corner. Al nodded and had his pitch fork ready.
Chase head the light and small footsteps of the rats. In the corner was a box with chicken feed. He pushed it and 5 hugs rats ran out. "AGGHAHAHAH" Farmer Al evilly laughed as he ran and poked at 3 of them. Chase followed one up the stairs where the hay was. It sprinted behind them revealing even more. They scattered and jumped off of the top onto loose hay. Al continued to laughed. Chase caught one and bit on it feeling it's life force drain. While on the trail of another one he didn't realize the huge barn door in front of him.
He broke through the surprisingly thin wood. "Chase are you okay!" Al the exclaimed as he poked at his rats. "Yeah! Give me a couple of seconds!" Chase called back out.
"That was quite the stunt there officer." A low male voice said. Chase got up and saw an older Australian Cattle dog walk up to him.
Chase nervously chuckled at the embarrassing moment. "Chase! I need you're help in here!" Al called out. "I have to go help him in there. I'll be back!" Chase said as he ran back in. Chase saw Farmer Al stepping and poking rats left and right. "I'll call Ryder!" Chase yelled.
"Chase?" Ryder said through the pup tag.
"No time to explain. Can you bring over Rocky and Tuck. Maybe Everest if she wants." Chase asked before going back to chasing rats.
"So... you like building sandcastles..." Tuck asked as he blankly stared at Rubble.
Rubble sighed. "What don't you understand about me liking anything that has to do with construction!" He groaned and fall backwards towards Tucks obliviousness.
"So legos?"
"Tuck you're with me." Ryder said as he walked down stairs.
They walked outside to see Rocky and Skye playing tug of war with Marshall and Everest. "Rocky Everest! Come on! We gotta go do something!" Ryder called out.
They rushed to their vehicles and Tuck tagged along with Ryder in his blue pickup truck.
Farmer Al and Chase sat in the middle of the chaos. "Back up is on its way." Chase huffed.
"Thank goodness. This is becoming a lot of work." Al said as he looked around. He got up and started to move all the rats into a pile with a rake. "I'll send these guys to a friend of mine who has some worms. I usually send waste over to him and in return I get chicken feed." Al said.
Chase walked outside to see the cattle dog with an older Australian Shepherd. "Oh... there's two of you now." Chase chuckled.
"I didn't realize I had my vest o- my hat!" Chase exclaimed as he looked around.
"Here you go!" The Australian Shepherd said handing Chase his police hat. "You lost during your little break through." She joked.
"Thank you." Chase says as he takes it and puts it on.
cough cough* "So officer Chase, honor to meet you" The male says holding out his paw.
"Oh! More like my honor to meet the parents of the best herding dog in the state." Chase replies and shakes his paw. "Strong paw you got here. What's with the other one?" He asked.
Chase looked down at it. "I got into a little mess with two Rottweilers." He explains.
"You lived? Wow!" The mom complimented. Chase couldn't help but take a little pride in that comment even though it wasn't just him.
"So... what brings you here? I assume herding isn't really your thing since you're a cop." The father asks.
Chase took a small amount of offense to that. He brushed it off. "I actually was here for herding. Then my thoughts kinda got the best of me. So I decided to help Farmer Al with a rat problem until you guys left... no hard feelings." Chase explains.
The father gave a heavy cough. "So do you have a significant other orrrr..." he didn't finish.
Chase tilted his head towards the sudden question about his love life. He shrugged it off thinking he was just curious. "I used to have a girlfriend for like... 2 and a half days. I found out she was using me so... you can kinda see where that went." Chase explained. "So no I don't have a significant other." He added so it would be more clear.
The father nodded. "Ah okay, we've been trying to find a suitable mate for Iris but no males are able to keep up with her." The father chuckled. He wanted to imply something but didn't want to throw off Chase.
"I hope you get what you're looking for. Someone out there has to be good enough. I'm working on becoming a detective and stopping an upcoming robber. The sheep herding thing is something I do on the side when I'm free." Chase replied deflecting whatever his father was trying to do. He didn't want to assume anything he just wanted to be safe.
The mom wanted to change the subject. Someone was getting a little to hasty. "So you're a cop/detective/sheep herder/ rodent exterminator?" She joked.
"Did I hear rodent hunting!" A voice said from behind.
Chase gulped. "I love chasing Rats and mice!" The mix breed said.
"I never actually got your names." Chase said.
"I'm Mustang."
"And I'm Sally."
"You two have very fitting names." Chase said thinking of it. Mustang and Sally.
"Aaaaand I'm Iris!" The mix breeded dog exclaimed as she jumped in. Chase felt like giving up right then and there. "Chase! What did you need!" Ryder exclaimed as he ran over to him. "I sorta made a hole in Farmer Al's farm." Chase replied as he scoots over and reveals the hole.
"What did you need Tuck and Everest for?" Ryder asked as they caught up.
"I thought they might wanna help catch some rats." Chase explains.
Everest jumped up in excitement. "Like hunting?" She asked as her tail wagged.
"Kinda."
"I wanna do it to! Lemme finish this!" Rocky called out while he repaired the door.
"Hey Ryder!" Farmer Al says as he wipes away some sweat and drops his pitchfork.
Ryder tries to get as much info as he can from just looking at him. "How many rats?" Ryder asked. He was visibly exhausted.
"To many to count."
"Done! K let's go!" Rocky said. The pups looked at him. He had replaced the broken spot with some light brown wood that stuck out. Could easily be repainted. "That was quick." Everest said.
Ryder looked at his pups. He never knew they had such a thing for hunting. "Since when did you guys like killing things?" Ryder asks.
"I used to do it all the time in the South Pole. I usually keep the rodents away when I'm up at jakes too." Everest explained.
"It's just seems like a fun thing to do. Plus rats are a main issue for farmers and humans in general so..." Rocky said as his claw retracts back into his pup pack.
Ryder looked at his pups. "Go crazy then."
They all sprinted inside including Iris. Chase sniffed around for some rats. Occasionally 4 or 5 rats would sprint out from a dark corner giving the pups a field day.
"Break in! Bum bum ba dum! Break in!" A voice hummed. It wasn't Gasket. A small white terrier slowly lowered herself dodging detection lasers. She picked up a small box and started to pull herself back up. "Stop! We have evidence on you Sweetie!" A feminine voice yelled.
"Oh... you mean this?" She smirks and holds up a small hard drive.
"Toodooloo!" Sweetie adds as she quickly heads towards the top of the building.
At the top waits her helicopter and bugsby. "Take us up and away bugsby! Monthly break in success." Sweetie sighed as autopilot drove her away.
When the chopper lands she sneakily walks through a small vent she made. It leads directly into her pink and messy room. It had the same feeling as Rocky's messy room with random nuts, screws, metal boxes, and other things just lying around. She peaks through the small gaps to make sure nobody was in the area. She hops out and sighs.
"Where were you?" The princess asks as she crawls out from under the bed.
Sweetie froze. "I uh I uh I can explain." She stutters. Of all the people to catch her, it would be here very own owner.
The princess was past disappointed. "There's nothing to explain. I'll take strict action." She sighs and walks out. She didn't know if she had the stomach to punish sweetie that bad. "I need to call authorities." She mumbled to herself. They'll know something.
knock knock knock*
"Come in!" Gasket calls out.
3 short, fit Mexican men walk into the room. "We are here as your... servants..." the middle man said.
"I've heard many great things about you. 20 people... and for a cheap price." Gasket said eyeing the 3 assumably leaders of the group. "Question is... how reliable are you?" She adds.
"As reliable as ever. You know Mexican's. Hardest working race on the planet." Another said trying to convince her. She nodded her head.
"Alright...I'll send you the location of my new base. Worlds greatest thief has to have a cool looking base. I know just where to find one." Gasket said getting a hold of a weapon under her desk just in case.
The three men walked out and she released her grip. Gasket's plan was falling together. Men, right hand man, and a base. All she needed now was the fame. She needs to execute her big plan for tha... she needs just a tad bit more money.
The pups laid on the grass and panted. "That was very fun!" Rocky sighed. The other pups nodded in agreement. Ryder looked at his pups. "I should take you guys out into the valley for some hunting. I didn't realize how much you guys liked it." Ryder suggested.
The pups thought about it. They weren't sure how they knew what to do. "Honestly... I wasn't even thinking. Just doing. Natural instinct just kicked in." Rocky replies. "Definitely a weird experience." Tuck said. "Not a bad one though." He adds.
"So, who's the friend you made Chase?" Rocky asked with a nudge.
Chase pushed Rocky. "Not really friend. Way out of my league to be considered a friend. She's California's best sheep herder." Chase replied.
"Ooooh" everyone else teased.
cough cough* "I'm right here you know" Iris said making herself known. She was about the same size as Zuma just a lot more energetic.
"Right, any of you guys going to the competition?" Iris asked.
"I know Chase is. He never really wins." Rocky laughed.
Chase felt embarrassed. "Hey I usually end up on the podium still." Chase mumbled.
"So who ends up winning?" Iris asked.
"I'm not sure. Dogs come and go." Chase simply replied. Not remembering last times winner.
Tuck sat up. "Well then... that was a lot of work."
Ryder and Farmer Al turn the corner. "Alright pups let's go! The others are probably bored out of their minds." Ryder ordered. The 4 got up and said their goodbyes to Iris. Only for a bit since they were going to meet her again next week.
"Bye Mustang, Bye Sally!" Chase called out as they passed by.
"See ya Chase! Try and keep up with Iris!" Mustang called out.
Chase scoffed. Low enough so they couldn't hear it. No way he could keep up with her.
"Dude you already know her parents? And hey like you? You are set!" Rocky teased.
Tuck decided to join in. "Yeah, plus she's good at what you're not. Which is herding and good looking." He joked.
Chase rolled his eyes. "It's not happening. What do you mean I'm not good looking?"
Rocky starred at him. "In all seriousness... this seems like a good idea." Rocky suggested.
Chase was getting annoyed with the bugging. "1... she doesn't live in one spot which would make it long distance. 2, I'm busy with Gasket and her rampage across town. 3, She would have to talk to you guys. 5-"
"What's wrong with us?!?" Tuck questions.
"You guys take everything so light hearted." Chase said in an annoyed tone. "Making jokes out of everything."
"Maybe that why you don't have a girlfriend. You and your stone heart won't allow it." Rocky shot back.
Chase glared at Rocky. "Goes to number 5, there's probably some dark secret they have. Gasket had one and so do they. I can guarantee it." Chase defended.
"Ah well, you do you grumpy." Rocky insults as he hops into his vehicle.
Chase wanted to go over there and just shake some common sense into him. He took a couple of deep breathes and got into Ryder's pickup truck. "I almost lost it talking to Rocky." Chase admitted.
"I thought you were supposed to be cool, calm, and collected... The CCC." Tuck said.
Ryder and Chase turned to him when he said that. "Never say that in public." Ryder said. Tuck nodded and started to think of the reason not too.
"Rocky can be stubborn and annoying if you want to say. But that's how most genius people are. I used to have a brilliant friend. Smartest person I knew, although he had no common sense. His name was Gio. Never saw him after High school." Ryder shared as they took off onto the road. "What happened to him?" Chase asked wanting to hear the end of the story.
Ryder slapped his head. "I literally just said I never saw him again."
"Oh..."
Tuck let out a little chuckle. "You can't laugh at that. You said something dumb as well." Chase said.
"Okay okay, there's 5 of us. So if we wanted to we could reach the top of the ceiling." Marshall suggested.
"Dude, I know we'wre bored but not bowed enough to fall and break my paws." Zuma replied to the dumb idea.
"I'm sorry! I'm just trying to think of something because Rocky and Everest have been gone for like 2 hours. You aren't any fun at all!" Marshall exclaimed.
"I don't wanna be on the bottom." Rubble said.
Just then the members that left drove into the driveway. "FINALLLY!" Skye exclaims as she drops to the ground in happiness.
"Okay okay it wasn't that bad! Stop ovewexaggewating." Zuma said.
Skye looked back at him. "No it sucked." She said.
Marshall ran over to them to see what the issue was. "Where'd y'all go?" He asks.
"Farmer Al had a rat problem. We solved it." Chase replied with a big smile at their success.
Rocky jumped in. "Chase also got himself a new girlfriend." He teased.
Chase snapped his head towards Rocky. "One more thing about Me and I'll make you regret talking." He threatens.
Rocky shrugs and walks away to find Skye. Everyone reunited with their other leaving Tuck, Chase and Rubble the odds ones out. "Wanna watch Snyder's cut?" Rubble asked.
"What" Chase asked
"Definitely! 4 hours long it should be great!" Tuck agreed as they both ran inside. Chase looked around to see that Ryder was gone. He already knows where he went. He's been in the same place for the past couple of days. "Ryder sir? Maybe you should catch a break. Can't work well while tired." Chase offered.
Ryder stood up and nodded. He made his way to his bed and flopped on top of it. Chase thought he was gonna move but he must have been more tired than he thought. Chase jumps onto the bed even though it it's not allowed, he curled up next to Ryder and drifted off to sleep.
Sweetie stood in her room as see watched all of her stolen items get taken away. "You're lucky you're royalty because if you weren't I'd have you in jail." A German Shepherd said.
"She'll be in under house arrest for 6 months." The German Shepherd said to the princess. She nodded and looked towards Sweetie. She couldn't put the entire blame on Sweetie though. She had let her off lightly with her little shenanigans and it grew to this. "6 months to think of what you could do right." The princess said as she walks out.
Sweetie sat down and stared at her wall. Nothing went through her mind. The peace and quite was good enough.
"Right so let's get back to our... best couple in the lookout. It really obvious who it is though so." Marshall joked.
Zuma walks back to the group with a long rope. "Tug of wawr! He exclaimed.
Two of couples on the team got on opposite sides. It was Rocky and Skye against Marshall and Everest again. "Let's see those mixed genes go to work." Zuma joked.
Both sides pulled with all their might. Nobody moved for awhile until Rocky and Skye started to slip. Rocky could definitely take every pup on a one on one but with basically two against him it was ruff. "Mawshall and Evewest win!" Zuma yelled out letting them know to stop pulling and let go.
"Ha! Look who won!" Marshall exclaimed.
"I kinda don't wanna do this anymore." Everest whispered to Skye and Ella as Rocky was about to butt heads with Marshall and Zuma.
"Let's walk away and see how far we can get before they notice something." Ella suggested
They walk away in broad daylight while Marshall and Zuma brag in front of Rocky. If Rocky was known for one thing... it was never being wrong. "I can for sure win in a one vs one. No doubt." Rocky defended hoping he can still bring some truthfulness to his previous statement about being the best pup.
"Come one let's go!" Marshall challenges and walks to the rope. Rocky goes to the other side and Zuma counts them down.
"3...2...1!"
Almost instantly Zuma noticed Rocky slowly moving back. Then they started putting their all into it and it fell into a short stalemate. "Who do you think will win?" Zuma asks.
No response.
He turns around and sees that the girls had left. "Oh..." he mumbled to himself.
With one last pull Rocky pulled Marshall across the agreed center. "Ha!" Rocky panted.
Marshall didn't reply. He just rolled his eyes. "Told you I'm stronger than you guys." He declared.
"Where did the others go?" Rocky asks.
"I have no clue." Zuma replied with a simple shrug.
"Race you around the lookout!" Marshall yelled as he runs off. Rocky smiles. "You guys want me to win don't you?" He cockily states as he chases Marshall down.
Honesty thats the end. I don't know how to end chapters very well... I just end them abruptly. On the side not this chapter turned out to be very long. I think it might've been the best one so far. Next chapter coming out onnnnnnnnnn April 15th or 16th.
