Jessica turned to Seth but just looked down at her feet.
"Listen Jess. I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me."
"No Seth, it's fine...really. It was nice. I liked it. It was a great kiss. Well as Mort said, a little more than just a kiss." She replied. Seth chuckled a little.
"So… where does this leave us?" He asked.
"I-I don't know. I mean…... It's not every day...your best friend just...gives you a... really passionate kiss." She chuckled. Seth blushed and looked down at his feet. Why can't I read minds? Jessica asked herself.
Why does she make me feel this way? Seth asked himself. Why do I love her? Why is it every time I look in her eyes all I see is beauty? Why is it every time I look in the mirror I see someone who has fallen completely in love with his best friend?
"Listen Jess I'm comfortable with whatever you want."
"Seth I'm so afraid that something might happen and then one day we wake up and realize that all of it was a huge mistake. Then we lose each other for good. I'm not willing to let that happen. You're my best friend, and we've done some crazy things together,''
"Like getting you out of dangerous situations?"
"Well….yeah." She laughed and Seth joined. "My point is, Seth." She moved over to him and put her hands on his shoulders. "I don't want to do something we might regret and I lose the good in everything that could happen in the future as my friend." Seth's heart dropped but he understood her and didn't want her to regret something.
"Then we'll stay friends." He said, taking her hands, "It would kill me if you woke up one day and regretted doing something and it ruins our friendship."
Seth pulled her into a hug.
"You're my best friend," Jessica said over his shoulder.
"I am your best friend Jessica," Seth reassured her. "And I always will be."
"Thank you, Seth. Thank you."
"Of course Jess." Seth pulled out of the hug. "Well, I best be going now. My first patient is at 8:00."
"Of course." Seth walked towards the door.
"Bye Jess."
"Bye Seth." and the door shut behind him.
Seth slowly walked to his car almost dazed the whole time. His heart felt like it was traveling a million miles per hour. He could still feel the kiss they had shared upon his lips. He opened the car door and sat inside. He ran his fingers over his lips and closed his eyes, letting out a sigh.
She's perfect. He said to himself.
Jessica let out a breath and pressed her lips together. She leaned back against the kitchen cabinets. She could still feel the tenderness of his lips and the softness of his hands on her neck. What really just happened between us?
