The trek to the market was a long one, with the watchful eye of the sun always peering down on the residents no one could escape, making the journey feel even longer, like walking through freshly heated peanut butter.
Unkar Plutt's shop was a run down hut just to the side of the shopping trail, its roof was falling and its sides were peeling, but to this young girl, it was a life source.
Waiting in line always took at least an hour but today it was a little quicker, with BB8 trailing behind making the occasional "bloop" noise, Rey made her way up to the tall counter, and sat behind, was the large pink haggler.
Unkar Plutt was at least 5 feet taller than Rey, towering above most people his face secreted sweat and the smell was so strong it filled the shopping region, but she was used to this she had been doing it since she could remember, except back then there were people, people that are but vague silhouettes in the back of a memory now.
Rey slung her bag onto the counter spilling the contents of broken pieces from various scavenges from earlier today and yesterday, Unkar looked at the pieces and back at Rey as if she were the worst criminal in the galaxy, "One quarter portion." His voice was like gravel scraping across metal.
Rey's fair skin was gleaming from the sweat of the heat, a stark comparison to the man across from her, "This was worth at least one portion each last week," she huffed in her sweet but posh voice, her week had been worse than most already with the hole in her heart that seemed to get bigger and bigger, and though she was used to going most days without food, on top of everything else this was the last thing she needed.
Unkar Plutt raised his head of bubbling skin and eyed the droid behind Rey, he stared at the girl but she held her ground as he grabbed package after package from behind the counter, filling the counter top in front of Rey almost to a point of being taller than her, the shoppers in line made disgruntled noises, no one got this much from Unkar Plutt for anything and for a minute Rey gently touched the packages in front of her, she would be fed for months!
But looking back down at the droid she had just found she found herself not caring, deep down she knew it wasn't logical, after all it was just a droid, but she wouldn't see herself stoop down to selling something alive, droid or not. And something told her that maybe the droid might lead her to what she's been searching for. Something to fill the hole.
"Not for sale." Rey kept her voice steady as she said it slowly, turning around she walked away from the worst decision of her life or so she thought, and behind that crusty counter of the hut what she didn't hear was that voice of metal on metal giving instructions to two feared bounty hunters.
O O O
"There's an inspected ship set to start off from the docks," "Alert general Hux at once!"
Stormtroopers lined the base corridors in an attempt to stop the rogue ship from taking off, FN-2187 looked out the ship's windows in despair, "You didn't check to see if the ship was still attached?!" he yelled at his newly acquired friend, Poe Dameron.
Poe didn't really think he'd make it as far as the hanger, let alone actually getting on a ship, he had no ideas and no plan.
"This was an ingenious plan." Captain General Armitage Hux paced the floors of the inside base where many lower ranked soldiers typed on their computers prepping for the worst. He was both furious and impressed but no matter how he felt he wouldn't let them escape, making rank Captain general was nothing to sneeze at and he wasn't about to lose it to a rogue stormtrooper and some guy with gorgeous locks.
FN-2187 blasted troopers with the TIE fighters guns while Poe mashed buttons in hopes of something working, although he was a resistance pilot Poe had never flown a TIE fighter before, T-85 XWING, sure, Black Ace was a speciality even but never a ship that belonged to the first order. "Ohmygosh I got it!" Poe screamed just as the tether holding the TIE down snapped back into place and they zoomed into the dark abyss called space.
"NO!" Hux flapped his arms in disgruntlement as he watched the TIE fighter get smaller and smaller, "Shoot them now!" The supremacy started shooting all its lasers at the TIE fighter, which looked like a marble in comparison, hoping that they might hit it.
Poe jerked on the handles flying them under the huge ship, dodging left and right avoiding the tens of guns pointing right at them, sweat dripping off his hair framing his jaw, he whipped it out of his eyes and turned, "What's your name?" FN-2187 stopped shooting, no one had ever asked him this before, "Um" he said "FN-2187" what he couldn't see was the confused look on Poe's face "No no no" he replied "Your names Finn now mmkay?" newly turned Finn looked ecstatic as he took up shooting again, "I love that name!"
'They've taken down all the combustors." Captain general Hux paced the middle corridor as he was informed of their lack in weaponry, "Heat up the ventilators!" he replied.
Just then a dark figure entered the room, long black cloak blowing behind, face covered by a structured mask, "General Hux, is it the resistance pilot?"
Captain general Hux stopped at the end of the runway as he was spoken to by Kylo Ren, "Yes and he had hel-" "FN-2187" Kylo interrupted "The one from the village."
He would bring that ship down, thought Captain general Hux, he had to. "Sir" said an inferior officer "The ventral cannons are hot," "But not as hot as me," he replied "FIRE!"
Poe swerved left than right dodging the shots from the ventral cannons, dipping down then swerving up heading toward a yellow planet,
"Where are we going?" asked Finn, "Jakku, I gotta get my droid before the first order does." Finn turned his head in disbelief, "Uhhhh nuh-uh we ain't going back to Jakku! We go back there we die!"
"She's a BB8 unit orange and white one of a kind, we have to get her."
"No droid can be that import-"
"She has a map that leads straight to Luke Skywalker!"
"What!"
The TIE fighter flown by two best friends started spinning as it got hit, its wing fell off resulting in smoke billowing behind, twisting and turning in its uncontrolled descent towards Jakku.
"This was his first offense" said the woman in silver, she towered over Hux with authority and shurness in her voice, "He was in my squadron"
"They've been hit!" A lower officer yelled from the back, Hux followed Captain Captain General Phasma as she made her way back to the officer, "Are they destroyed?" she asked, "Just disabled, they were heading back to Jakku," the officer replied.
"They're going back for the droid."
