"Come on I heard about a pastry place nearby," Hayley said.
"Why not?" Hope said. Her mom made a couple more turns and went to the heart of the town and saw a fancy bakery that had a sign saying, 'We're open. Hayley parked the car and unlocked the car door so they could get out, two people came out as they were walking in, it was a girl with strawberry red hair that was lighter than Hope's and another woman who was seemed very familiar to Hayley but ignored it and walked inside with her daughter. She went up to the chiefs and asked for two of everything, they looked at her strangely but didn't complain and told her to wait and to take a seat. They did as they were told (for once) and waited sitting on chairs by a table.
"Tell me about your day," Hayley said.
"I did, it was fine," Hope insisted.
"Details, Hope," Hayley pushed on. Hope knew there was no getting out on this conversation.
"Well I manage to not blow up the school, introduced myself to a class with this other new girl but she automatically hates me," Hope said.
"Why?"
"Probably like everyone will, but I don't know," Hope said.
"What'd she do Hope?" Hayley asked her. Hope, at first, decided to not tell her mom but she's a hybrid and will find out eventually and she'll be the one who'll get in trouble.
"She pushed past me and tried to embarrass me, but don't worry I had it covered," Hope said and her mom gave her a look. "Not with magic." She reassured her. Her mom only nodded. Then a bell chimed and they both looked towards it to see six boxes at the counter. Hayley stood up to get it and paid for it with one of the Mikaelsons' cards which was basically unlimited and they left for the car. Hope opened one box and grabbed a sweet and bit into it.
"Mmmm," Hope said. "These are really good."
"Let me try," Hayley said and Hope put the other copy of it in her mom's mouth as she was driving. "Mmm, they are good. I'm taking a box to work for a snack."
"I thought they didn't allow foods near the devices." Hope teased.
"I'll be careful," Hayley said. "Plus, I could persuasive them."
"By persuasive you mean compel," Hope said.
"Tell me what's the difference?" Hayley asked and Hope laughed at her mothers' remark. She continued driving and dropped Hope at the Mansion with the five boxes because Hayley did garb one. "I'm heading to work again and won't be back until, much later. So catch a ride to the bond fire with someone, bye honey." Hayley said.
"Bye, mom!" Hope said and chuckled before the car drove off again. She felt something near but saw nothing around her. But she didn't want to leave anything to chance she grabbed some chalk from her bag and at werewolf speed she marked it around the property. "Inteo." Hope chanted waving her hands in a cylinder motion putting a barrier spell around the property. Only she and her mom could now get in and she can decide who comes in, including witches, werewolves, even humans, and only she can undo the spell.
That put her at some sort of ease.
She got out the spare keys and unlocked the door and made her way into the living room where she turned on the tv and sat cross-legged as it turned on and went to the news.
"And yet another earthquake shook the entire state of Louisiana and even some states around it, officials are saying the origin point came from a place called New Orleans that is known for its music, culture, and foods. This earthquake was bigger than the one they had encountered almost 17 years ago."
"Its getting worse," Hope muttered before switching the channel not bearing to see any more news about New Orleans live. Instead, she put on a movie while eating the rest of the pastries making sure to save one of each for her mom.
"Do we really need to shop for new outfits just for tonight?" Malia asked.
"Yeah I'm with Malia on this one," Allison said.
"Well this time I didn't force you guys to come," Lydia responded.
"I only came here for the food we usually get after," Malia said.
"Fair enough," Lydia said as they walked into the store. "Well, I'm buying."
They first went to the clothes area. Shoes and accessories can come later once they know what they are going to wear. "This is cute," Allison as she held up a nice white dress that covered her shoulders and went up to her knees.
"Too simple," Malia said.
"For once we agree!" Lydia said smiling.
"Plus it'll get dirty with dirt,"
"Fine," Allison said as she put the dress back. They continued to look through the racks of clothes before Lydia's eyes sparked and pulled a dress with flowers all over as the design, and it was flowy at the bottom where it ended to her knees.
"Perfect!" Lydia exclaimed. "I'm going to go try it on."
"We'll still be here," Malia said going through the endless dresses that she just wants to tear apart.
"I like this one," Allison said and pulled out a dress that was aqua blue color that came with a belt and Jean jacket.
"Great, try it on, I'll still be looking," Malia said as Allison smiled at her and left to where Lydia went.
As she was scrolling on to the next dress she smells something weird but ignored it since it was probably one of the many items in the store.
She just picked out a random t-shirt and shorts and hopes Lydia would leave her alone and not get her a dress instead. Malia waited for them on the outside of the changing room. They came back out with their regular clothes on and followed Malia out to go to check out. On the way there though they had managed to get Malia a jumpsuit and a clip for her hair.
"You'll look pretty," Allison reassured her.
"What do you mean? She'll look amazing," Lydia said.
"Gee thanks," Malia deadpans.
Lydia handed her card to the worker and after getting it back they headed out of the store.
"Now we can get some food," Lydia said. Malia's mood shifted.
"Finally!" Malia exclaimed and grabbed both of their hands, dragging them both to the food court of the mall.
"I'll put a timer for 8:00 so we could get home and get ready," Allison said getting out her phone from her pocket and set a timer for 8:00 pm.
"Ok sure whatever," Malia said getting in line.
"I'll go find us a table and wait there for you guys," Lydia said and went out of line to go get a table for them.
Then it was their turn, and Allison ordered for them. They looked around and found Lydia sitting at a table waving for them to come her way. They sat down putting their bags aside.
"Wait, where's the bonfire going to be?" Malia asked. "I mean obviously not the school, the adults wouldn't want their precious school to be in harm's way."
"It's not on school grounds," Lydia said.
"But it's a school event," Malia said.
"Yes but, it's seniors who run it," Lydia said.
"And every year it's at the woods, in the preserve because what a bunch of teenagers could do?" Allison said. "We're lucky it's not a full moon."
"Yeah, that'll cause a whole lot of trouble," Lydia said.
Allison looked the way of their food and saw it was ready, "I'll go it," She volunteered and stood up. She came back with their food and drinks.
"You know I think we should approach Hope first as a new friend,"
"Why?"
"Well because, it seems like she could use people like us to hang out with," Lydia said.
"A banshee, a werecoyote, and a former hunter?" Malia asked opening her meal.
"Well at least there doesn't seem to be anything out of place with her," Allison said.
"Yep, no ringing or sounds in my ear coming when I was near her and did you pick anything up with your werecoyote senses?" Lydia asked Malia.
"No, because I was at the back of the class and hadn't introduced myself yet," She said.
"Then it's settled, we'll introduce ourselves at the bonfire," Lydia said.
"What if she doesn't come?" Allison asked.
"Who wouldn't come?" Lydia said and silenced Malia before she could get a word out. They all started eating their meals as they hadn't realized how hungry they were.
They were laughing as they were walking to the car and got in, it was a 20-minute drive back to Lydia's house so Allison called her dad to tell him she was going to the bonfire.
"Technically, it's not a party dad," Allison said into the phone. "Yes I'll be careful, I might crash at Lydia's house though. Fine, I'll bring pepper spray, happy? Love you too dad," Allison said as she hung up right as the timer on her phone started ringing.
"Call the boys to make sure they get there on time," Lydia said pulling up to her driveway.
Allison put them on speaker.
Scott and Isaac were playing video games as Scott's phone kept ringing. "Hello?" Scott answered.
"Hurry up and get ready," Lydia said on the phone.
"What time is it?" Scott asked.
"8 pm," Allison said.
"Ok, we'll meet you guys there around 9," Scott said and hung up.
"The girls?" Isaac asked.
"Yeah they want us to get ready, Ima take a quick shower," Scott said and headed upstairs to his room's bathroom. He put on his regular clothes once he hopped out of the shower but he was sure the girls got new clothes, he headed downstairs where he saw that Isaac had been in the same clothes he had been when he left. Scott got a piece of paper to write down where they were going in case his mom got back early. They then heard a familiar honk of a blue jeep.
They went outside and saw Stiles poking his head out the window of his jeep. "You guys coming or what?" Stiles asked. Scott got shotgun and Isaac had to sit in the back. Stiles came early so they could beat the girls there.
"Come out, we want to see you!" Lydia said to Malia who was hiding in the bathroom. Malia groaned as she opened the door revealing her dark green jumpsuit that had stripes and had spaghetti straps.
"Perfect now we can go!" Lydia said and made their way to her car as Lydia waved by to her mom.
Hope had finished the three movies she had been watching and was about to get ready to wolf out again to practice until she remembered the bonfire. She was tempted to skip it but she told her mom she'd go. She put on some ripped jeans, garbed her leather jacket, keys, and her phone, and left the house with the barrier still up.
The forest where the bonfire was happening wasn't too far from her house so she decided to go walking. It wasn't long before she reached it. There was a bunch of people here, from seniors to freshmen. Everyone was having a drink of some kind. Oh, what the hell. She thought to herself. Got to blend in. She picked up a drink that was in a bucket of ice and drank it. She didn't care what it was, she knew that it wouldn't affect if it was alcohol, she knows that from the past werewolves and vampires with their fast metabolism, it'll be death to humans if they drank as much as they could to get drunk.
More people were coming by the second and Hope finally saw the huge bonfire that was the center for this party, it was kind of hard to miss, she didn't know how she did. It was at least 10 feet tall surrounded by a spiral pole going around it and people were sitting on the logs around it laughing.
She continued to walk around and saw a girl in a green jumpsuit doing a handstand on a grey can as people cheered on her. She had to at least chuckle at the sight. She made her way to a small bridge that went over a river. She watched the party from away as the flames of the fire would get bigger somethings and lower from the wind coming and going.
Scott saw the girl Hope on the bridge by herself and wanted to introduce himself so he excused himself from his friends and and went her way.
Hope's ears picked up someone coming from behind her, she was about to cast an offensive spell when the person came next to her and she realized it was just guy McCall.
"Hope, right?" He asked leaning on the wooden railing just as Hope was looking at the party.
"Yep, that's me," Hope said taking a sip of her drink.
"I'm Scott McCall," He said extending his hand waiting for Hope to grab it. She looked at it cautiously before shaking his hand.
"I was wondering what your first name was," Hope said. The guy, Scott looked confused before realization set on his face.
"Right," He said. "So, uh, where'd you move here from?"
"The south." That was all that Hope said.
"Can I ask why?" He said almost nervously, she could hear the beating of his heart sped up for a moment.
"Something is happening with my family back home so, the majority vote within my family, they moved me with my mom here," Hope said, not lying but holding back the rest of the reasons, she knows not to say anything about their world.
"So you've never been to beacon hills?" The guy, Scott asked.
"Never," Hope said repeating his word.
"So, why'd you chose this town?" Scott asked.
"I didn't, my mom did. But so far it's quiet here, unlike back home." Hope said.
"What was it like?" Scott asked.
"Loud with music always on the streets," Hope chuckled at that, her family once told her how her mom told them to shut up while she was a baby. "Food, culture, art. And one of the places my family could call home. We use to move around a lot," Hope said and received a smile from Scott. There was another cheer from a group of teenagers and Hope saw the girl from early get down from a handstand and took a sip of her drink.
"That's actually kinda cool," Hope admitted.
"She's one of my friends," Scott said.
"Well tell her I said so," Hope said.
"Why don't you tell her yourself?" Scott asked.
"I'm not really of a people's person," Hope said.
"Come on it'll be fun," Scott insisted Hope didn't respond and took another sip of her drink. She contemplated if she wanted to tale the risk and be friends with this person and his friends, she and her life wasn't simple, in any way. Even most things or persons she interacted with wasn't simple like the Salvatore school. Why would this be the friendship that will have a happy ending?
Then again, it would be a friendship. Something she really had no time for. Something she never really had outside her family. Something she didn't allow herself to have cause she never took the first step. Maybe she'll see how far this'll go before it ends in complete disaster.
"Why not?" Hope finally responded and didn't catch how his face lit up.
"Great, come-" Scott's words were cut off by a scream by that everyone turned to hear. Hope's eyes glowed as they looked into the forest trying to find where the scream came from not knowing Scott was doing the same with his red eyes.
They both got off of the bridge and looked around to try and find from where exactly it came from. They eventually heard branches break as two people came out of the woods and collapse once they were in view. Luckily someone had already called the police and arrived at the scene in less than 10 minutes, but that was enough time for everyone to look at a two bodies that were half burned to death by something. The girl kept twitching and when the ambulance arrived at the scene she kept on trying to fight them, while the boy remained unconscious and seemed to be barley breathing.
"Lydia?" Stiles asked.
"I don't know," Lydia said.
Hope watched this from afar. 'How had she gotten burned if she was no where near the bonfire?' She was at a lost for words on how this happened.
"Get back to doing your thing!" One police officer said as the ambulance drove off. The rest had got in their car and drove off following behind.
After a moment of silence everyone went back to doing there own thing but everyone was still talking about the girl. Hope decided not to stay any longer and turned to leave by the woods. She stumbled every now and then from the tree roots. This is what happened when she finally decides to go out. She sighed before she reached her house and decided to wash away her thoughts.
"Does anyone know how it happened?" Allison asked. "Like what exactly happened?"
"No, some people are saying she was drunk and she disappeared," Lydia said.
"Hey, where's Hope?" Scott asked realized she was no longer with him.
"She came?" Malia asked.
"And you manage to talk to her first?" Lydia asked.
"Of course he did," Isaac said.
"Isn't weird she disappears after they found the body?" Stiles asked.
"She was with me when we heard the scream," Scott said defending her.
"Back to the topic, who or what caused it?" Allison asked.
"It could've been just an accident," Isaac said.
"Let's hope it was, because if its not..." Scott trailed off. "Let's hope it's not supernatural." Scott said.
