Anyway I won't take more of your time, this is Re Union chapter 3
Naoko Natsuki opened her eyes after another night of sleep. The light of the rising sun that was coming through the window to her eyes had woke her up.
She sat up in bed... and for the first time in months, she felt rested. Her shoulders didn't feel heavy, her back didn't hurt, she didn't feel her guts churning and needing to vomit, she didn't feel the cold sweat that woke her up every morning.
She didn't feel any of the discomfort or pain that she had felt for the past few months.
She felt normal... even more, she felt good, comfortable, peaceful. Her lungs felt full with every breath and her stomach begged for some food.
She blinked a little and she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. She watched her, still a little asleep, around her and was surprised by the white walls of the great room. The walls were decorated with paintings that she had never seen before, a rather large desk in one corner of the room and a table in the centre of it with several chairs.
"Where... Where am I?" She murmured slowly. Then, she remembered.
Like a truck, the memories of the day before hit her.
The usual nightly search had been unsuccessful as always. Her husband and she were returning home to rest their bodies when in the blink of an eye they left the streets of the quiet Japanese night.
Only to appear in the middle of another place vastly different from their last place
"It wasn't a dream..." She thought incredulously.
Wait...
If everything she experienced was not a dream... Then... That would mean...
"Dear get up!"
Naoko moved her sleeping husband to wake him up but he was still sleeping. His eyes still had large dark circles around them and despite his unconscious state, the naked eye could see how tired he was.
After all, he was the one who kept their family afloat after the disappearance of his son. He was the one who didn't break and maintained part of their old lifestyle with their new one.
The first week it might seem like Subaru could show up through the door at any moment. Tell them that he had been away from home, that he had some things to think about. They managed to go through this phase together but it was just the start.
But the idea of him returning home was dying as time passed.
During the third week, the idea of suicide entered their head, what if he had done it? What if he decided to take his life because he deemed himself a failure?
In the middle of the second month, none of that mattered, their son disappeared and not even his body had been found.
At some point in all of this Naoko's mind just gave in. Going to and from the streets, visiting other cities, always with a television or radio nearby to listen to the news that could indicate a path.
While that was happening, Kenichi worked and when he could he joined her on her searches, mainly at night.
Her meals consisted of eating canned food, taking stimulants to stay awake, and drinking coffee and energy drinks to make her feel less tired.
All kinds of methods to maintain an active rhythm without rest, taking their bodies to the limit. Naoko managed to stay four days without sleeping while Kenichi had to sleep every two days, his fatigue was heavier due to work and he had to rest his brain more than her. He deserved it more than her too.
Now, seeing the placid face of Kenichi sleeping, she could not help but let him continue sleeping when she saw that she did not wake up
She got out of bed and realized that she was wearing the same clothes as yesterday. She noticed that her husband did too. Despite their exhaustion, it is not polite to sleep with dirty clothes that have been worn all day. But still, they both couldn't help falling asleep when they touched the soft bed.
She walked over to the large window and saw the sunrise in the east. It was early in the morning, the streets that she could see from the window were not very busy and everything was quiet.
That quiet silence was interrupted by the sound of her stomach, something that shocked her quite a bit.
One of the things that she had done less and less in recent months had been eating. She ate little and only if necessary. She did not feel hungry because the time that she could spend eating she could use it looking for her son.
So the fact that her stomach was rumbling with hunger was disconcerting. But still, she received it gratefully. Perhaps this was an improvement in her physical condition.
She turned away from the window and approached the highly decorated white doors. Opening the door by the golden handle she stepped out into one of the corridors she walked through yesterday afternoon.
The white floor had a red carpet trimmed with gold. Naoko looked up and down the hall without seeing anyone.
"It seems like it's a bit too early," she hummed to herself. Leaving the door slightly open to find out which room to return to next, Naoko moved down the long corridor, moving toward the nearest intersection of corridors.
Looking around her, she reached her destination and observing the following corridors she could see some maids working. Baskets of clean clothes and boxes of food were some of the things they carried.
The maids didn't seem to see her since she was a bit far from her so she turned to go back to her room to wait for Reinhard to call them.
When she went to take the first step, in the distance behind her, a strong and sharp voice was heard.
"Oi Reinhard, why do I have to be up so early? The Wind Time has just begun! It's way too damn early."
The voice was met by a simple laugh that Naoko recognized. She turned around to, indeed, see Reinhard accompanying the same girl they met yesterday in the city. This time she was wearing a dress that was in good condition, not torn like yesterday.
"Well my lady, we have a schedule to meet and because someone decided to ran away yesterday we are behind said schedule" Reinhard explained as he closed his eyes in a thoughtful face "I think the correct way to say it would be 'You reap up what you sow' "The saying was accompanied by a slight laugh from the boy and a defeated groan from the girl.
"Every day I hate you more, you know?" The girl said with a scornful gaze but even from the distance Naoko could say it wasn't completely meaningful.
"Your words hurt me my lady," The voice of pain, acted out, made Naoko laugh. That reminded her of her husband and her son when they were back at home.
"Oh, Naoko-san good morning," Reinhard noticed her in the distance and approached her "Are you already awake?"
"Yes, me at least. My husband is still sleeping. He was quite tired," Naoko replied with a smile "I have to thank you again for letting us stay for the night," She bowed a bit.
"There is no need for that Naoko-san," Reinhard replied awkwardly while trying to stop the woman from bowing "I know your son would have done the same as me if he encountered the same situation."
"Yes... I suppose he was always a good boy," Naoko looked down, remembering her son.
"You don't have to look so sad Naoko-san, there are still a few hours until the carriage that will pick you up comes so if you need something don't hesitate to ask me or one of the maids," Reinhard explained quickly trying to lift the woman's mood "You will be able to see him soon."
The conversation took place before the eyes of the blonde who looked at Reinhard waiting for an explanation but when she saw that the redhead did not notice her gaze, she decided to intervene.
"Reinhard, who's this woman?" The question was accompanied by an up and down look from the younger girl at Naoko "She's dressing weird" She took a look at her face "And I have this feeling... You know... Like I... Like I have seen her before but I can't just say I remember her" She got almost face to face with Naoko.
Reinhard sighed at the crude words of his lady and pulled her away from Naoko. While being straightforward was something that characterized her, her mistress could become very frank when she wanted to be, even becoming a bit rude.
Naoko looked at herself and didn't see anything strange about her clothes. They weren't particularly dirty and they weren't too big for her. Yes, it is true that she had lost a lot of weight these last few months and she had not bothered to buy new clothes but still she would not say that her clothes are weird.
Before Naoko could say anything to the girl, Reinhard spoke first.
"Felt-sama please, you have to learn to measure your words a bit," His little scolding received a scathing look from the girl, Felt. Still, Reinhard put on his usual smile and said "Felt-sama, this lady is Sir Natsuki Subaru's mother, Naoko Natsuki."
Felt spends a moment processing the situation. And after a few seconds, her eyes widened in surprise "Wait! You are Big bro's mom?" She pointed her hand at her.
"Big bro? Wait, you know my son too?" Naoko pointed at her in disbelief. A shocked face formed in her.
What kind of trouble did your son have to get into for people in high places to know him?
"It's hard not to know him, the silver-haired half-elf's knight. Few idiots would dare to do that," Felt said with a shrug. Naoko frowned a little at the insult "But well I guess that's the kind of person Big Bro is," she finished with a small smile.
"While I would have used other words my lady is right Naoko-san," Reinhard commented "You have to be proud to have raised a wonderful son."
Naoko didn't know what to answer "I... I just..." Her words didn't come out of her mouth. She didn't know what to say because she didn't know what these people were referring to.
They talked like her son was some kind of hero, but her Subaru wouldn't have done anything extremely dangerous, right? He would have been safe, right?.
"Can you tell me more about Subaru? Please. It's been a long time since we've heard from him," Naoko bowed to the pair. She needed to know if her son had been in danger, she couldn't live with the idea of her son needing her help and that they weren't there for him. Then at least she would hear about his accomplishments and efforts.
Felt's crimson eyes twinkled even brighter for a moment.
"Sure! Let's go to the dining room and have breakfast together so we can talk more," Felt urged the woman to follow her. Naoko's stomach growled at the mention of food.
To Reinhard's misfortune, he couldn't react in time to his mistress's insistence. Once he saw the joy on Naoko's face, he couldn't even insist on the need to keep to the schedule.
He knew what his mistress was trying to do and in the short term his plan might seem good for her but he knew that in the long run, his idea would turn against him again.
So, as usual, he just followed her with a smile.
Kenichi Natsuki has never been a person to spend a lot of time in bed. He would normally get out of it once he woke up and go eat breakfast.
But today he was much more tired than usual. And he decided to stay in bed a little longer.
Rolling over in an attempt to find the warmth of his wife, only to be met with the cold touch of the sheets.
Kenichi reacted by sitting up and rubbing his eyes to wake up and cover them from the sunlight coming through the window.
After blinking a bit, his eyes got used to the light and he verified the fact that his wife was not in the room. Soon after he realized that the room he was in was unknown to him.
Kenichi rubs his eyes some more, clearing himself completely. He looked around for his glasses and found them on a table in the centre of the room.
He narrowed his eyes so he could see something better and took the glasses from him. He took a closer look at the room now. "I definitely have no idea where I am."
He remembered entering the giant mansion, invited by the young redhead. He also remembered the conversation they had, but at no time did he remember going to sleep.
Seeing the sunlight coming through the window and hearing the sound coming from outside, Kenichi went to the large white wooden door there.
Taking the doorknob, he opened it.
"Dear guest, are you awake?"
Kenichi was greeted by a maid who was waiting for him on the other side of the door. She dressed in a Victorian maid outfit and short brown hair. She has a fair complexion and cocoa-coloured eyes. Her face had a nice reddish hue.
He wasn't expecting a maid waiting for him on the other side of the door so Kenichi reacted in the smartest way possible.
"Eh? Yes of course"
The maid gestured for her to follow him and she began to walk through the corridors of the mansion.
Kenichi followed the maid and seeing that the maid did not seem to want to start a conversation, he decided to use his natural charisma to start a conversation with the maid.
"So... Can you tell me where we are going?" Kenichi smiled as he followed the maid. Who without turning his head answered in a neutral but friendly tone.
"The young master and the dragon priestess are currently in the Great Hall with your wife, dear guest."
"I can assume that the young master is Reinhard-san, right?" Kenichi asked as they turned a corner. "This place is remarkably huge by the way." Yesterday, he was able to observe a part of the mansion, but walking through it now, fully awake, was something else.
"Yes, the young master, Reinhard van Astrea-sama, is the next in the line of succession of the Astrea family" The maid did not look at Kenichi at any time "And as for the size of the mansion... many would say that it is small for the popularity that the Astrea family possesses. "
"Oh... Oh... wow... Small eh?" Kenichi had seen bigger buildings before. But he had not seen such large lands inhabited by a single family and that was also considered small "What kind of people do you associate with Subaru?"
Kenichi decided not to comment on anything else about the house and seeing that the maid didn't seem to want to talk much either, he chose to simply look at the mansion.
Luckily, the silence did not continue for much longer as they reached their destination.
"This is the Great Hall" The maiden said "The young master, the dragon priestess and your wife are waiting for you inside." After that, she made one last bow before leaving.
"Thank you very much" Kenichi thanked the leaving maid but she did not react to her thanks.
In contrast to the white doors of the room where he slept, the doors before him were a vibrant brown colour. They were polished to the extreme and seemed to reflect light like mirrors and had strange decorative patterns on them.
After watching them for a moment, Kenichi took the doorknob and opened it ...
SLAM!
"HE DID WHAT!? THAT BOY IS IN SO MUCH TROUBLE WHEN I GET HIM!"
The loud shout that received him was quickly recognized as the voice of his wife.
His wife, with both hands on the large white table with gold edges, with a surprised and angry face, seemed to have yelled at the people in front of her.
A red-haired young man that he quickly recognized as Reinhard and a girl, much younger than Reinhard, with blond hair and bright red eyes. Dressed in a cream yellow dress.
All three heads turned to him when he opened the door.
"Oh! They look alike" The blonde firstly said pointing at him "He looks even more like him than her and I already thought that would be difficult."
"Good morning Kenichi-san" Reinhard, always so cordial, greeted "I hope you had a good night. Was the bed to your liking?"
"Eh? Yes, of course, it was amazing... Good morning to you too" Kenichi was still processing the information in his head. His wife had already sat down but she had a complex face and he didn't quite know what was going on. "Can you... tell me what's going on?"
"Sure, take a seat and let's talk calmly. Your wife has already been informed of some things. It is completely fair that you are too." Reinhard spoke in a formal tone as he invited him to sit at the table.
Kenichi walked around the long table, which was filled with all kinds of plates of food that he had never seen and now that he thought about it he hadn't eaten anything since yesterday's meal almost twenty-four hours ago.
He sat next to his wife, right across from Reinhard and Felt "Honey, can you tell me what's going on?"
"Honey I know this is going to sound incredible" Naoko started "But... it seems that Subaru is some kind of hero in this place" She was still processing what he had heard over this few hours
"He is not some kind of hero, he is a true hero. He did many amazing things after all," The blonde girl said "By the way, my name is Felt and I suppose you are Big Bro's father, right?"
"Big bro?" Kenichi instinctively said. Eyes slightly open, surprised.
"Ah haha... Well let's also say we have a bit of history between him and me" Felt said a little embarrassed "He kind of... saved my life from a murderer."
"Felt-sama I was there too..." Reinhard thought as he was being forgotten by his mistress, again.
"He did what!?" This time it was Kenichi who screamed, jumping up from his chair. Kenichi looked at her wife and only saw her sigh, she had already been told this it seems. Seeing that his wife had already given up on the issue, Kenichi sat in his chair again.
"It seems that Subaru has been doing some pretty dangerous things since he got here" Naoko commented to her husband. "I am, so, so relieved that he is still okay."
Kenichi nodded, while Subaru's behaviour was not what they expected from their son, especially considering how he was before he disappeared, he had not only saved someone's life, at the risk of his own, he was also recognized as a hero. And as a father, he was proud of him and his accomplishments.
"Can you tell me how all that happened?"
"Well... This is the second time I've told this story today, but anyway" Felt said as she took some food from a plate "It all started when I stole a badge from a girl..."
"You stole from a girl? Why?" Kenichi asked
"Now that's not important... Well, as I was sayin'..."
Due to Kenichi's interruption, Felt had to stop his story but when he was about to start over the doors of the Great Hall opened. It was a maid who opened the doors.
"Young Master, Felt-sama. The head of internal affairs of Emilia's camp, Otto Suwen, as well as Garfiel Tinsel, who acts as his guard, have arrived," the maid informed.
At this Reinhard got up from his chair while dismissing the maid with a hand move." As much as I would like to hear the story of that day again, Naoko-san, Kenichi-san, the carriage they were waiting for has arrived." At the words of the redhead the couple got up from their chairs instantly.
"If you will please follow me around" Reinhard motioned for the maid to leave while guiding the couple outside "Felt-sama, even though it's been a while since your class should have started, I hope you will be heading there now that our guests are leaving "
"Oi! At least let me say goodbye to them, that's the proper etiquette," Felt tried to dialogue with Reinhard. She had to buy more time somehow so she could get back to skipping her classes.
And Reinhard seemed to think about it for a moment "That's true..." Then he looked back at her and smiled. Felt, for a moment, thought she had won.
"If you feel that your forms are already good, it would be better to put them to the test, don't you think?" Reinhard said while Felt's blood runs cold.
"So... what are' we doin' 'ere Aniki?" A young and relatively short boy with short combed back gold hair and deep and sharp jade coloured eyes. Due to his demi-human blood, he has sharp feline-like fangs. A large white scar stretching across the entirety of his forehead.
The boy has a rather well built and muscular physique. He can usually be seen wearing long black pants and a torn-up loincloth that is heliotrope-purple on the outside and red-violet on the inside and a short black vest with red-violet accents.
The boy was sitting on the roof of a carriage drawn by earth dragons. He looked down at his friend, who was sitting in the driver seat. The dragons that drew the carriage were resting on the ground.
"I told you this morning Garf, the Sword Saint called us yesterday, he said it was something important and that we have to come today," Said friend, Otto, commented. He has grey hair that reaches on the shoulders. He has sharp, bright blue eyes and a fair skin tone. He wears a green, belted wardrobe, as well as a dark green hood, held up by a red bow. He also wears a green ushanka with a white feather.
He was reading and comparing some documents while waiting. The workload never ended for him, it was hell on earth.
"An' what's so important that we had to come f'r it instead of him bringin' it?" They could be on their way home, his Cap'n promised to show something cool once they were back and he couldn't wait for it.
"I don't know, but the servant who came said it was quite important," Otto commented. They had arrived a few minutes ago and one of the servants told them that they would call Reinhard right away. "I don't think it will take much longer for us to leave."
"If you say so" Garfiel proceeded to lie on the roof of the carriage and watch the clouds, but this did not take much more than a few seconds "F'r the dragon's sake! Can they come now? I'm bor'd"
"Garfiel! Show a little respect, we are in the Sword Saint's mansion as well as the base of an enemy camp," Otto said to the blond boy.
"But ther's nothin' to do, no one to figh' or do somethin' with and you are doin' those thi'gs of yours, so you are not helpin.'"
Otto knew that bringing Garfiel with him had advantages and disadvantages but he never expected Garfiel to have one of his moments right now.
"Ahhhh~ I... Someone's comin' ... Hmm? This'mell ..." Garfiel's yawn didn't end as Otto expected, Garfiel sat up and glared towards the door. Otto looked up from his documents to see how the door of the mansion opened.
Reinhard emerged from it, followed by two people neither Otto nor Garfiel recognized. A man and a woman, adults. They were both behind Reinhard so Otto couldn't get a good look at them.
"Otto-san, Garfield-san, it's a pleasure to see that you are both well" Reinhard spoke to the couple as they approached.
"The pleasure is ours to see that you are well too Reinhard-sama" Otto commented as he bowed a little before the redhead. Even if they were in rival camps, courtesy had to be shown.
"Please Otto-san, only Reinhard is fine," The redhead said with a smile.
Otto nodded at the kindness for which the Sword Saint was known. Many people, a one over the other, had spoken well of him, and he truly lived up to his reputation.
"Then refer to me as Otto only Reinhard-san" The grey-haired said "At the end of the day we have a very troublesome friend in common" They both let out a small laugh at that comment.
But before Reinhard could say anything, Garfiel spoke "Hey Sword Saint, who are those people who go with you and why do they smell like the captain?" Despite the clear difference in status between the two, Garfiel spoke openly with his frown.
Otto paled when he saw the attitude of his partner.
But Reinhard didn't care about any of that and he just laughed at the young blond's demeanour.
"Ah, yes" Reinhard commented as he took a step to the side, showing the couple behind him "These people are related to the task I wanted to ask of you,"
Garfiel, sitting where he was, was looking at the couple who had just stepped forward, open-mouthed. Their scent and their appearance were the only evidence he needed.
Otto for his part was more or less in the same condition as Garfiel, while he did not possess his enhanced sense of smell, it was not necessary for this situation. He deduced an identity for these people in a matter of seconds.
"A-Are they who I think they are?" Otto asked, vastly surprised.
"If you mean Subaru Natsuki's parents, then yes" Reinhard confirmed their assumptions "Kenichi and Naoko Natsuki are Subaru Natsuki's parents and I would like you to take them with you to the Miload Mansion."
Again a big shout out to the betas of this chapter whose names in the server I don't know and I won't be calling them by their e-mail account name.
I have really nothing more to say hope you have a great spring
