It's been a few hours since Alex's water broke. While Lena and Alex were focused on getting their daughter into the world; Eliza had lost one of hers. Kara kept coding on Eliza and Eliza wasn't able to get her back. Eliza walked into the room where Alex was and Lena looked to her and noticed that she had been crying. Eliza looked at Lena and nodded her head to let her know that Kara hadn't made it, but her eyes told Lena to not tell Alex just yet.
"How's it going in here?", Eliza asked her daughters'.
"She's progressing pretty well.", Lena said to Eliza.
"That's great, does Dr. Hamilton feel that you need a c-section?", Eliza asked Alex.
"As of right now no, but things could change. How's Kara?", Alex said then asked Eliza.
"Still the same. We don't need to focus on Kara right now though. You have to focus on my grandbaby coming into the world.", Eliza lied to Alex.
"Just had to make sure nothing changed.", Alex said to Eliza.
"Nope nothing has changed.", Eliza said to Alex.
"It looks like you're lying to me. If something happened mom tell me. I can handle it.", Alex said to Eliza.
"Alexandra now is not the time or place. Just focus on getting baby girl into the world.", Eliza said to Alex.
"No, if something happened I want to know. Don't hide things from me because I'm in labor.", Alex said to Eliza.
"Al, mom is right we need to focus on you and the baby right now.", Lena said to Alex.
"God damn it, just tell me.", Alex said to her mother as another contraction hit her.
"She kept coding on me until her heart couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't get her back, Alexandra.", Eliza said to her oldest.
"No no no no please tell me you aren't saying she's dead.", Alex said to her mother as her vitals started to sky rocket from stress.
"I'm sorry Alex, but she's gone.", Eliza said with tears in her eyes.
"I can't do this without her, she gave me the push to do this. Lee, I can't do this.", Alex said as she started to have a panic attack.
"Al, look at me. You can do this, Kara is always going to be with you. She will be there for everything with our daughter. You have to calm down, love. For the sake of you and our daughter you need to calm down. We will figure this out, I would have loved to have Kara by our side as well, but the universe has other plans. This hurts so much but we have to push that aside and we have to bring our daughter into the world. I just lost my best friend. I can't lose you two as well.", Lena said to Alex as she put her forehead on Alex's. "That's my girl, breathe love.", Lena said with silent tears running down her cheeks as Alex was silently crying as well.
"After she's born can we go say goodbye to Kara?", Alex asked Lena after she calmed down.
"Of course we can. Once we get baby girl settled we can go see Kara.", Lena said to Alex as she kissed her lips. "I love you.", Lena said to Alex.
"I love you too.", Alex said as Lena wiped her eyes. "Sorry for the attitude before mom.", Alex said to Eliza.
"No worries dear. What has Dr. Hamilton said about her lungs? Is she going to need help breathing?", Eliza asked her daughters'.
"She gave me steroids to hopefully make her lungs a little stronger. But she said we won't know until she's actually here.", Alex said to her mother with a worried look on her face.
"We'll just have to pray that she's as healthy as a horse then.", Eliza said to Alex with a small smile.
"She's stubborn like one, I can tell you that.", Alex said with a laugh to her voice.
"She's just a Danvers girl.", Lena said with a smile on her face.
"Hmm she most definitely is.", Eliza said to her daughters'.
"She just needs to come already. So I can punch something.", Alex said to them.
"Preferably a punching bag not a wall.", Lena said to her girlfriend.
"I can't promise that.", Alex said with a smirk on her face. "Someone has to call Sam and tell her about Kara.", Alex said to them.
"I will call the necessary people when my granddaughter is here. Just worry about that right now and nothing else.", Eliza said to Alex.
"A little hard to do.", Alex said to her mother.
"I know dear I know.", Eliza said as the baby's heart rate started to get out of control.
"Mom.", Alex said with fear in her eyes.
"I'll go get Dr. Hamilton. Try and relax, Alexandra.", Eliza said as she went to her Dr. Hamilton.
"Looks like we'll be doing the c-section after all. She's going into distress. I don't want to risk a vaginal birth.", Dr. Hamilton said to Alex and Lena.
"Whatever we have to do.", Lena said as Alex nodded her head to agree.
"Alright let's go have a baby. Lena while we prep Alex you'll need to change into scrubs. Eliza would you assist me in bringing your granddaughter into the world?", Dr. Hamilton said to them and then asked Eliza.
"I would love too.", Eliza said with a smile on her face as they wheeled Alex out of the room for surgery.
"Lena, what's going on?", Sam asked as she and Ruby came into the medbay.
"Sam, Ruby? How did you guys know to come here?", Lena asked them.
"J'onn called us, told us we needed to come to the DEO. Is Alex and the baby okay? Where's Kara?", Sam said then asked.
"Alex and the baby will be just fine, just some unexpected problems coming up. But they'll be fine, they have to be. I can't really talk right now, but after the baby comes we'll talk.", Lena said to them.
"Of course go with Alex. We'll wait here with J'onn.", Sam said to Lena with a small smile on her face.
"Time to become a mom.", Lena said with a smile on her face as she left to get changed.
"Why do I feel like Aunt Kara isn't here anymore?", Ruby said to Sam.
"I have that same feeling kiddo.", Sam said as she hugged Ruby.
"Let's get this baby into the world. Eliza if you want to get Lena so we can start.", Dr. Hamilton said once Alex was set up for her c-section.
"Of course.", Eliza said as she poked her head out of the room and told Lena to come inside.
"You ready to become a mom?", Alex asked Lena.
"More than ready.", Lena said to Alex.
"I can't wait to see her.", Alex said to Lena.
"Me too.", Lena said to Alex.
"Alex you're going to feel some pressure and some tugging but you shouldn't feel anything else.", Dr. Hamilton said to Alex.
"Okay.", Alex said to Dr. Hamilton as Dr. Hamilton started to get the baby out.
"Just a little more pressure and she'll be here.", Dr. Hamilton said as they all heard the baby cry for the first time. "Congrats mommies.", Dr. Hamilton said as she held the baby up.
"She's gorgeous, Al.", Lena said to Alex with happy tears in her eyes.
"She sounds like she has a good set of lungs on her.", Alex said as Dr. Hamilton and Eliza chuckled.
"She definitely does. Lena would you like to cut the cord?", Dr. Hamilton said, then asked Lena.
"Yes.", Lena said as she took the medical scissors and cut the cord.
"We'll give you a few seconds to see her. But we have to make sure everything is working correctly.", Dr. Hamilton said as she handed the baby to Lena.
"Here she is Mommy.", Lena said as she placed the baby on Alex's chest.
"She's perfect. Is she breathing okay?", Alex asked Dr. Hamilton.
"We're going to check her over right now.", said as Lena handed their daughter over to her.
"Eliza, are you okay with closing Alex up while I assess your grandbaby?", Dr. Hamilton asked Eliza.
"Not a problem.", Eliza said as she started to close Alex up.
"Her breathing is a little labored. I'm going to put her on oxygen. I'm also going to give her a feeding tube until she's able to breathe normally. She seems to be regulating her temperature a little better than most premature babies. I am going to keep an eye on that though and if we have too we'll give her a warming blanket.", Dr. Hamilton said to the girls.
"Do we need to bring her to the hospital for the NICU?", Alex asked Dr. Hamilton.
"Nope, we have everything here for her. If it makes you feel better we can bring the both of you to the hospital.", Dr. Hamilton said to Alex.
"No, I rather be here. I just want to make sure she has everything she needs.", Alex said to Dr. Hamilton.
"We do, let's get you settled in a room and I'll bring her in once we have the feeding tube and breathing tube in.", Dr. Hamilton said as they wheeled the baby away and wheeled Alex into her room.
"Lee, go be with her.", Alex said to Lena.
"Are you sure?", Lena asked Alex.
"Yes, she needs at least one of her moms with her.", Alex said to Lena with a tired smile.
"I'll stay with Alex.", Eliza said to Lena.
"Thank you. Try and get some sleep.", Lena said to both of them as she kissed Alex's forehead before leaving the room. A few hours later and Lena came back to Alex's room with the baby. "Dr. Hamilton thinks she'll only need to be on the oxygen for a week.", Lena said to Alex with a small smile on her face.
"That's a good sign.", Alex said with a smile of her own.
"Would you like to hold her?", Lena asked Alex with a smile.
"Of course I do. Hand her over.", Alex said to Lena as Lena took the baby out of her bassinet and gently handed her to Alex. "Hi there baby girl.", Alex said to her daughter with a tired smile on her face.
"She's been a really good baby so far. When Dr. Hamilton had to put the feeding tube down her nose, she didn't particularly like it but she didn't make that much of a fuss.", Lena said to Alex.
"She's definitely a Danvers.", Alex said which got Lena to chuckle.
"That she is, how does it feel to be a mom?", Lena asked Alex.
"Great, but also sad. Wish Kara was here to enjoy her like we get too.", Alex said.
"I know love I know. Eliza how does it feel to be a grandma?", Lena said to Alex then asked Eliza.
"The same answer as my daughter. But we will enjoy her more just for Kara.", Eliza said to them with a small smile on her face.
"Would you like to hold her?", Alex asked her mother.
"I would love to hold my grandbaby.", Eliza said as Alex gently handed the baby over to Eliza. "Does this little girl have a name?", Eliza asked Alex and Lena.
"She does, we would like to tell everyone at the same time though.", Alex said to Eliza with a small smile on her face.
"Then I'll have to wait just a few more hours until everyone comes to visit.", Eliza said as she looked down at her granddaughter and smiled. A few more hours and their friends and family were all together cooing over the new addition to their family.
"So what is her name? We can't call her baby girl for the rest of her life.", Sam asked her friends.
"Everyone, we'd like to introduce you to Annalise Kara Luthor-Danvers. We were going to make Kara one of her godmothers' besides giving Annalise her name. Sam we would love it if you were to take that title as her godmother.", Alex said to everyone.
"I would be honored.", Sam said as she smiled at her friends.
"J'onn, we would love it if you were Annalise's godfather.", Lena said to J'onn.
"That would be the greatest honor.", J'onn said as he looked at his adoptive granddaughter in Lena's arms.
