Lambert's POV
Kavar stayed with him for several hours after finding him. It surprised him that the other allowed him to keep his lightsaber. Lukas expected to fight to be allowed to keep it.
The knife however was taken from him by Kavar. He said, "Until you are in a better state of mind I think I should keep this."
Lukas rubbed a hand down his face as he said, "I understand Master Kavar."
Kavar moved as if he was going to leave Lukas's room. He paused as Lukas stood and turned back towards him. Blue eyes assessed him silently. Then he raised a hand causing Lukas to flinch back. Instead of striking the boy a gentle hand landed on the top of his head. The hand gently ruffled his hair before retreating.
As quickly as Kavar had come he was gone leaving behind a very confused padawan. What was that about? Why had a Master ruffled his hair like that? Shioon had done that a lot when he was still alive.
Lukas ran a hand through his already messy hair. There was no time or reason for him to consider the implications. Kavar was just trying to calm him. Of that he was sure. Yet no matter his hard he tried he did not rest easy that night.
The next morning came too early for the boy. He moved through his katas with grace and ease that came with years of practice. Even if he didnt have as many years that the others had.
Halfway through Form IV there was a ping from his comlink. When he checked his comlink a snort went through him. Well then things were about to get interesting. It seemed that the other padawans had decided to make a flood is lava day.
Quarters were safe havens from the game. However if you touched the ground you lost. It was an easy enough exercise one that happened fairly often in the Temple. This time there was a secondary objective that was not as common. Avoid the attentions of the masters. If a Master caught you, that was also considered a loss.
Lukas changed from his sleeping clothes into a loose fitting tunic. If that was how things were going to be then he would play along. Hiding himself in the Force was like second nature. He would out last them all.
Travelling through the Temple without touching the floors was easier than one would think. Lukas and XIII had carved out handholds on the top of the walls and parts of the ceiling. The difficulty was avoiding detection by the Masters. Particularly Master Vrook who had a dislike for Lukas and his band of misfits. It was a dislike that confused him for there were times he thought the man cared.
Vrook's padawan was worse than her master. Ariana Silpher was a fox humanoid like alien and her sense were enhanced. She had furry blond ears and whiskers. She would do everything within her power to get him in trouble. She seemed to hate him with every fiber of her being and he didnt know why. She was already a padawan when he arrived at the temple. One of the youngest to be accepted as a padawan.
Lukas did his best to avoid the padawan but it was becoming almost impossible. As a mid ranking padawan he has heed orders of a senior padawan. Unfortunately that made avoiding the other difficult. That was if he listened like he was supposed to. According to Revan there was no padawan as stubborn as himself.
However Lukas was lucky that Ariana was terrible at their games. She wouldnt last long in a game of floor is lava. It would be amazing to watch for him and those he was friendly with.
Kavar's POV
This was officially the weirdest day of his life. The Jedi Academy at Dantooine was smaller than the one on Coruscant. This was known by the entire order. Few knew the reason behind the smaller number. Or why only special cases came to the Mid Rim planet.
Older apprentices, apprentices strong in the force, and those who had difficulty finding peace were sent to Dantooine. The planet was calming to both its regular inhabitants and those of the temple. It was here that younglings found their potential and peace. Some found the peace that was desperately sought do to unseen wounds.
Something he suspected that Lambert also held. Unlike the others however he was not finding the peace he so desperately sought. If anything he was becoming more anxious as time passed.
It was part of the reason he suggested sending Lambert with a senior padawan on a mission. Typically a senior and mid ranking padawan could handle low ranking missions in pairs. Only senior padawans on the cusp of Knighthood were allowed to take solo missions.
When he suggested the option Vrook actually looked contemplative. As if he was seriously considering it. If it was true then that was a rare occurence. Due to Kavar's youth Vrook rarely took him seriously.
Despite the peaceful nature of the planet that did not mean the kids were peaceful. In fact they were rowdy by nature in training to be Jedi or not. Expecting anything less was unrealistic.
So imagine his surprise when on his way to breakfast he did not see a single apprentice or padawan. He heard them several times but catching sight of one was eluding him. The frustration on the other Masters and Knights spoke of their lack of lack. For whatever reason padawans and apprentices were avoiding them.
A female voice asked from above him, "How long do you think it will take for the masters to notice?"
The voice wasnt familiar to him. A young one if he had to guess about ten to twelve years old. Looking up he saw three young apprentices holding onto the ceiling by... Was that handholds? How in the hell had those been placed?
The two apprentices looked at each other in disappointment before they dropped onto the floor. One called out loudly, "We lost. Master on the prowl."
There was the sound that he now understood was the children scattering. Well that was certainly an interesting way to get around the Temple. But why were they doing it? This wasnt a typical training exercise? Especially given that all the children seemed to be in on it.
He questioned before the kids could run off, "What are you apprentices up to? This doesnt look like a sanctioned training exercise."
The last bit had just a hint of teasing in his voice. Both apprentices seemed to relax slightly. They likely had been worried that he would be angry. Everyone within the Temple knew he was a member of the Council. If he wanted to push an issue he could.
The girl said rubbing the back of her neck, "Its a training exercise that Padawans Lambert and Hunter came up with. Floor is lava to teach us to be creative. The second stipulation is to avoid the Masters attention."
Ah now he understood. That was why he hadn't seen anyone. They were actively trying to avoid the Masters so as not to lose the game. He wondered how long it would last before the others noticed.
By the angry growls of annoyance from a few halls down he guessed not long. Time to stop them before a fight broke out.
