A/N: Wow, I was really surprised with the nice reviews. Thanks so much, you guys really made my day. I didn't think there were still lots of Gilmore Girls fans around since the show aired so many years ago, but I'm excited to know that we are still exist, Rogan fans in particular (because I came across too many Rogan haters, huhu...).
So I posted a story on Wtpd before and someone recommended me this platform and boy did I spent months having fun with Rogan stories around here before I started writing this story.
Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like the stories that I read, it's just I have been thinking about this story and I really needed to put it into writing so that I can read it again next time. Lol. Besides, I know I'm not as good as some of the authors I follow here but I'm not native English...so, I try my best... *grin*
Also, this story will be told in Logan's point of view, so there will be a lot more of his side of the party than Rory's, means expect more Huntzbergers and the LDB than the people of Stars Hollow...
Well, without further ado, please enjoy the story and if you have an idea or suggestions or anything, don't hesitate to pass it on. Cheers,
He quickly spotted his friends the second he entered the restaurant. He'd known them practically his whole life, they've been together forever and they felt more like family than just friends. And due to his lack of social life, his circle hasn't grew any larger since college. He didn't think it needs to anyway. He's had enough. He's had all that matters anyway. Because despite of their uniqueness, they are the most loyal creatures on earth, and they were the ones who helped him got through the dark times of separation with Rory.
Come to think about it, those times were indeed the lowest point of his life. Losing a big chunk of his trust fund, cut connections with his family, moved to an entirely different side of the country alone, starting over into the unknown, those were really overwhelming. But none of the above were the reason of his sorrow and unhappiness. It was the loss of Rory, the love of his life. His friends called it 'the dark days of unRoryness'.
At first he thought it was because the shame and humiliation of publicly rejected, and the feeling of betrayal and misreading the relationship, but later on he acknowledged that it wasn't that at all. It was the missing. The constant need of feeling her close, talking to her, seeing her, hearing her laugh. The million little things that remind him of her, or the million times he unconsciously seeking her around to look at her reaction on something.
He didn't realize before how much he had depended on her, she was the first he call when something bad happened to him and he needed to vent and she was what he needed to feel better. She was also the one he called when something exciting happened, and hearing her surprised tones never failed to double his excitement. Even other little things, their inside jokes always made his days better, even when they were delivered through phone messages.
She was his everything. After seeing her last night, the memories came flooding back, the good and the bad. He stayed up all night analyzing his life that was separated into two parts: Rory and After Rory, and he came to the conclusion that the Rory period was a lot better than the After Rory. He went ten years without her and he still loves her, he will never stop, and he was done denying it. He's tired of fighting it.
"Good afternoon, boys." He said when he reached their table.
Only Colin looked up.
"Hey,"
"What? No rain of confetti, warm hug, 'I miss you's or welcome home banner? I'm hurt,"
"We picked you up at the airport, and we meet almost every month even when you were in London. That's the downside of having private jets on our expenses. They limit our excuses," Colin answered.
"We also spent almost every holidays together, and birthdays. What's there to miss?" Robert added.
"I would give you a hug if you promise a french kiss follows. Oh, oups! Unless you grew some boobs since the last time we met," Finn commented.
"Fine. We're sick of each other. And officially a group of pathetic old dudes. We really spent holidays and birthdays together?" Logan asked taking a seat in front of Colin.
"I believe so," Colin answered.
"For the last twenty years at least," Robert added.
"Have we no life?" Logan asked.
"Speak for yourself. I have a life!" Finn feigned insulted.
"A life of debauchery indeed. You wake up at noon, go to dinner with random people, sometimes alone, end up in the finest and latest clubs, chasing redheads, have a one night stand, sleep when the sun comes up, and repeat the cycle!" Colin addressed Finn.
"That is so untrue!" Finn argued. "Sometimes I order in, if my date prefers it. And what is wrong with having different warm body each night? It works for me," He held his head high.
"You are an only child. Your father is retiring, he would need an heir," Colin said.
"I could always surrogate. My father won't mind. You have an heir and a spare already, why couldn't you stop marrying them? You're out of friends to be your best man," Finn replied.
"He's right. You should stop after the first wedding, I started to think you enjoy being the center of attention after your third. I couldn't even find a reason to burden myself with the joy of planning a wedding enough while you've had three," Robert chimed in.
"That's cute coming from a guy who has been dating the same woman for eight years without getting any closer to the next step,"
"She's a supermodel. Marriage will ruin that body. We're happy as clams. Besides, my brother has got an heir to the family fortune, as well as three spares and one princess for me to spoil. Life is perfect!" Robert argued nonchalantly.
"Does she know about this?" Finn asked.
Robert just scrunched.
"So our life is good? We're staying like this forever?" Logan asked grinning.
"We maybe. You on the other hand, won't get off so easy. You know how Dark Lord likes to keep it in the family. He might be forcing you into a marriage very soon," Colin reminded him.
"What a coincidence. He just told me the same thing at breakfast this morning." Logan smirked.
"Well? Spill!" Finn ordered when he saw that Logan had no intention of continuing his story.
"Well... he said congratulations for my satisfactory performance in London, he will start my mentorship to replace him, and as the future CEO, it is expected of me to have a Mrs. Someone who will support me, accompany me in important events, smile beside me on camera and magazine covers, host events, and most importantly producing an heir..." he answered dismissively while sipping his coffee.
"Nothing surprising, go on..."
"And he continued to ramble about the importance of blood and breed, and that if I couldn't find her on my own, I might just let him do it. It's not like they never tried. There has been a stream of eligible ladies around every time I visit."
"You seem to be taking this very easy," Colin commented suspiciously.
"Yeah. I said give me a year and then they can start the parade,"
"A year? So by this time next year you will be picking up wife from a wife farm?"
"I might not have to," he said grinning.
"Okay, what did I miss?" Colin asked with a raised eyebrows.
"I met Rory last night," he couldn't even hold his wide smile.
"Rory Rory?"
"Reporter Girl?"
"Ace?"
All three voices raised.
"Don't call her that!" They knew perfectly who was he referring to.
Colin groaned and put his head in his hands.
Robert shook his head.
Finn ate his pie.
"Judging by that smug in your face, you're making a plan,"
"I do. And it's almost ready,"
"Did you talk?"
"Well yes, last night. Briefly,"
"Logan. I mean talk talk. Not some 'the weather's nice today', or 'how's the family'..."
"Well, not really. But I'm working on it,"
"Logan. What exactly did you guys talk about? Did you at least ask if she's married or have a boyfriend?"
"No. She came with a guy, Tristan duGrey from Conde Nast. But I don't know their relationship. She doesn't look comfortable with him,"
"Is it possible that she didn't look comfortable because of you?"
The grimace on Logan's face made Colin groans.
"What is it?"
"She might have told me to stay away from her. Something about she's in a good place now and she couldn't risk anything,"
"Unbelievable. Let me summarize this for you. You met the girl who you dated for three years in college but rejected your proposal ten years ago and left you broken in a party for the first time after said rejected proposal, without any contact whatsoever for ten years. In said party, she not only came with a date, but she also told you to leave her alone." Colin asked sternly.
"Basically, yes..."
Colin winced.
"Um. The guy also kind of implying that they were living together? But I'm not sure,"
His friends groaned loudly.
"Am I missing something? What happened between this party and this afternoon that made you believe you have a chance as you were so proudly set the timeline of a year to your daddy dearest?"
"She texted," Logan grinned even wider.
"Oooo! This gets interesting!" Finn clapped.
"Of course she told me off in the text, begged me to leave her alone. But come on, she still has a feeling for me, obviously!"
"Humor us,"
"Well, I didn't have her number. The Times were very discreet about their writers' personal information. I have been trying to reach her since the first time I came across her article, but I kept bumping into dead ends. So imagine my surprise when I saw her at that party. She was hostile at first, but then we sat and had a pretty civil talk. She refused to see me again or give me her number, so I gave her my number. She could've thrown my card into the trash and forget all about it. But no, she texted me!"
"To reiterate her wish for you to stay away from her!" Colin said exasperatedly.
"And let me know her number in the process," Logan insisted.
"Oh God! Somebody please knock some sense into this guy!"
"Can't you see it? She unconsciously wants me! And you know about unconsciousness, it is your biggest desire. So I have concluded that, whatever it is that made her feel the need to avoid me, I will fix it."
"I think you're crazy, mate! This must mean something coming from me," his craziest friend said.
"Whatever guys! You knew how happy she made me, and how I became after I lost her. I know I had never admitted it to you, but I had accepted that our separation was my doing and I have been waiting for my second chance with her. I didn't realize I was waiting until I saw her last night. Suddenly it became very clear why women came in and out of my life faster than light,"
"I can relate, Logan. Women like Rory are hard to get over, I dated her too if you remember," Robert added.
"I know you meant well and supportive, but you would be wise to never mention it again. It was one time, and I kissed her several times on that date while you didn't, so it doesn't count,"
"Hey, I'm supportive too! I'm always supportive of you and Rory. I love her more than any of your girlfriends! But if you mess this up again and I had to dance to you singing M2M's Mirror Mirror on the Wall in a karaoke bar again, I'm moving to Australia and change my number!" Finn said seriously.
"I won't mess this up, and I promise there will be no M2Ms, Adele and Taylor Swift both got some sick broken hearts songs!" He grinned.
"This might be the most stupid thing I ever signed myself into with you," Colin said.
"Thank you for your support guys,"
"Yeah whatever, but you're paying for this coffee. We have to get going by the way, the party starts at 7?"
"I guess so, I never saw the invite anyway. It's an engagement party was it? Daddy only ordered me to make an appearance without getting into details," Logan asked.
"Dear God. My assistant briefed my this morning but it must slipped my mind about the details too. I hope somebody here has an address, I'd hate to bother my assistant out of office hours," Colin shook his head scrolling through his phone looking for information.
"Don't look at me," Finn said chewing on his cookie and slipped some into his pocket.
"I have the address, and I vaguely remember the family name... wait, Hayden? I think it's the Hayden Judge's family," Robert says.
"Alright then, let's go!"
