It started with basic questions, like if she slept in caves? If she had a preferred food, or if she had a family, she really didn't get much elaboration since the mermaid didn't really talk, but she was getting some information, now she had yet to share it with anyone since she really didn't suppose to be talking to her, but she was learning so much. However those questions soon turned into talks not related to the mermaid's life under the sea, Komaru would talk about her personal life, and even talked some about how life on land was like. This had been going on for two weeks now, their late-night one-sided talks, but Komaru had taken notice that the siren seemed a bit more relaxed around her, not a lot, but she would float closer to the edge, and she actually seemed interested in what she had to say about what was happening on the land, just as much as Komaru was fascinated with how life was like in the ocean.
Komaru has even seen a hint of a smile on her face, she seemed to be opening up, and relaxing some, and the scientist on the ground level have gotten some information, mostly biology with shredded scales, but Komaru was able to talk to the mermaid into being a bit more active as it would be healthy for her, and would perhaps have ess eyes on her, as people would be more curious as to why such a creature was being unresponsive rather than active.
All she would do was swim around a bit, but it was enough.
The brunet woman laid on the platform, it was another late night and she let out a tired yawn, she has not really been getting a lot of sleep as of late, but she was okay with that. Only for a tired thought to cross her mind, she sat up, the mermaid was there, watching her, she looked like she was squinting, but that didn't register as she said, "I just realized I don't know your name."
The purple-haired mermaid blinked, Komaru scratched her head, "You have one right?"
She gave a hesitant nod, the brunet hummed, "Well it's rude of me for not asking it sooner, hold on I can go get something that could help!"
She was about to make her way to the latter when she a voice made her pause, "I-it's Toko..."
Slowly Komaru turned and looked at the mere who was looking away and biting her thumb, "D-did you just talk?"
The siren looked back over and opened her mouth, "S-so what if I d-did."
"You could talk this entire time?!"
The mermaid-Toko-shrank back a bit but retorted, "O-of course I could, y-you just assumed that I couldn't!"
Komaru let out a sigh, only to then smile, "But you can talk, as, in my language, this is amazing!"
"I-it's not that big of a deal..."
"No big deal, we can learn so much more than just with yes or no questions, like culture, or how everything works!"
"W-why would you want to k-know that?"
Komaru frowned and looked down at Toko, "We almost next to nothing about our oceans, with how vast and deep it is, anything we learn is revolutionary, and having someone from there able to go to places we have yet to reach, and being able to tell us, we could learn so much."
Toko let out a frustrated groan, "Why didn't I j-just keep my mouth shut."
"Hey don't be like that, I'm glad you showed me you can talk, I mean it shows you trust me right?"
Toko turned to look away but Komaru could see her cheeks become tainted red, she smiled, "I'll take that as a yes."
"Y-you're not gonna tell anyone, r-right?"
Komaru blinked at the mermaid whose eyes looked to be pleading, she scratched her cheek and replied, "Well if you don't want me to, it can stay just between us."
"G-good."
There was a small silence between the two before Toko spoke with a small smirk, "Y-you know, you're lucky y-you're alive, a-after all, I could easily k-kill you."
Komaru's eyes widen, "W-what?" Only to then soften with a smile, "Well, I guess we're friends then."
That seemed to catch the mermaid off, "W-what?"
"Well like you said, you could've killed me by now, and have had plenty of opportunity to, but you haven't, and you've listened to me talk for these last couple of weeks and have even provided information I need, and you opened up and showed me you can talk to humans. I think that'd make us friends."
Toko looked away again, she now had a handful of hair in her hands and was twisting it, like a nervous habit, and said, "I-I've never had a friend before..."
A wave of sadness washed over the brunet, she couldn't imagine her life like that, "But you had a family right?"
Fear flashed in Toko's eyes, "Y-yeah...but I-I don't wanna talk about it."
Komaru could tell just by how Toko held herself that her past seemed to hold some painful memories, "That's okay, and if it helps, I'll be the best friend and show you everything friends do."
"I-if you want to...d-don't see why you would with a d-disgusting creature like me..."
"Hey you are not, and I'm gonna give you the best time, got that?"
"I guess..."
So I feel Toko is supper OOC, and I'm not for sure how to exactly fix it, she can't obsess over Byakuya because, in this AU, they never meet, also there will be no Genocide Jill, so if you guys have any ideas let me know. I hope you guys like this chapter!
