Hiccup and the Riders didn't reach the mainland until just before dawn as they flew throughout the night. They rested for a few hours before heading off again, so far they've hadn't seen any towns yet. But strangely ever since they arrived, they haven't seen a single dragon, big or small. And Hiccup half expectedly hope that they'll come across another Night Fury or 2 on this land.

It was now midmorning as they wandered through a forest following a path possibly leading to towns or other villages.

"Anyone else think it's odd how we haven't seen other dragons here yet?" Fishlegs inquired.

"Yeah, it's really strange." Hiccup said.

"Maybe dragons don't live this far south or something." Astrid said.

"No." Heather said. "I remembered seeing a few dragons when I was last here."

"Unless they've turned into ghosts." Tuffnut said.

"Nifelheim?" Ruffnut said.

"Gesundheit." Tuffnut said.

"Nifelheim! I knew coming here was a bad idea!" Snotlout complained.

"Will you quit complaining, Snotlout?!" Astrid snapped.

They were about to continue on when a sound was heard from a distance.

Toothless' ears perked up as it sounded almost familiar to him, and then a distant roar was heard sounding very familiar.

"Night Furies?" Fishlegs said.

Toothless then excited.

"Well, what are you waiting for, bud?!" Hiccup said. "Go get 'em!"

Toothless roared extending his wings out as his right wing hits Tuffnut, and then he quickly took off running. And Tuffnut quickly grabs hold of Toothless' saddle as he runs through the forest.

The Riders quickly got on their dragons as Hiccup got on Stormfly with Astrid as they quickly followed them.

Toothless ran through the forest as Tuffnut was struggling to hold on to the saddle handles, and ducks his head nearly avoiding a branch.

Soon, the others managed to catch up with them as then another roar was heard as Toothless turns to his right, and quickly turns to the right as the others followed him.

Soon, the others caught up with them and got alongside them. And Tuffnut manages to get on Toothless' saddle riding him like a jockey.

"And he's coming around the corner." Tuffnut said. "And he's behind a couple of fifths. And he's ahead by a wing!"

And then they rushed through some bushes and came to a stop as Tuffnut was thrown off Toothless' back flying through the air.

Tuffnut hits the ground and skids across the ground several yards before stopping. He lifted his head up and shook it regaining his senses, and saw a flower in front of him. But then a hoof stomps over it.

Tuffnut then saw it was a cow that has wandered off and was by a log which was making a sound through it mimicking a Night Fury call.

"Bah, it's just a plain-old cow." Tuffnut said getting up and brushed himself.

"Man, what a rip-off." Snotlout muttered.

"You're telling me." Tuffnut said rejoining the group.

Toothless however looked more disappointed than everyone as his wings limped to the ground, and he sadly croons and then walks off from everyone as they soon saw how upset he was.

"Oh, Toothless." Hiccup said with an apologetic look. "I'm-I'm sorry isn't what you hoped for. I'm sure we'll find another Night Fury for ya. Eventually."

Toothless sadly turns to them, and looked he wanted to be alone for a while, and then he walks off.

"1 truly is the loneliest number." Tuffnut said.

Half an hour later, Toothless sadly wanders to a river by a waterfall and looks at his reflection.

Despite having Hiccup and the Riders, but it doesn't help with him being the last known dragon of his kind. Toothless then let out a dragon sigh, and started drinking some water.

Then he heard what sounded like water splashing, he then sniffs the air as something was coming.

Toothless then quickly leaps up to a ledge by a waterfall, and hides behind and carefully peaks out.

Then Bowen appeared on his horse as he heads up the river, as he continues his hunt on dragons as he nears the waterfall.

"Yoo-hoo!" Gilbert's voice called out. "Yoo-hoo!"

Then Gilbert appeared as he was still following Bowen and had a quill and parchment in his hands.

"I've decided to compose "The Ballad of Bowen"!" Gilbert said.

Bowen stood by the waterfall as he turns to him, and by his hiding place, Toothless curiously watched the monk. But he knows he could be in trouble if Bowen spots him, and a Night Fury hide could give Bowen a real fortune.

But unaware to them, Hiccup and the others were close by as they appeared by the ledge above them out of view from them.

"How do you prefer I should write this?" Gilbert asked.

"Far away!" Bowen said.

"Oh, don't concern yourself with my safety!" Gilbert said making his way around some rocks. "I mean verse, meter." He ducks under a rock and made it through the gap. "Shall I spice it up with a poetical flourish or just the cold, hard facts?"

"This guy's a real muttonhead." Snotlout muttered as Tuffnut nodded in agreement.

"If you do not be quiet... you and I shall be the only things that are cold and hard around here." Bowen warned.

Gilbert was busy writing on the parchment while sitting on a rock formation in a odd shape. "I mean, it's all very well to go hacking and whacking at dragons." He said poking his quill on the rock.

Suddenly, unknowingly to them, a golden orange eye shot open on the rock with a vertical pupil and glanced up to Gilbert.

"But if a dragon falls in the forest and nobody gets to hear about it, does it make a thud?" Gilbert inquired.

The eye then closed.

"Brother Gilbert." Bowen said turning to him.

"What?" Gilbert said turning to him.

"Shh." Bowen shushed and then gestured to the waterfall.

Gilbert glanced at the waterfall and got nervous and mouthed "In there?" silently.

Bowen gave him a look confirming it and got ready.

Toothless remained quiet at his hiding spot thinking Bowen has somehow found him, he then split open his dorsal plates as they lit blue getting ready to fight.

Gilbert then continues writing on the parchment.

"The quill is mightier than the s-" Gilbert said and then jabs the quill into the rock again.

"Ooh." A new voice was heard.

Then suddenly the rock shook as Gilbert got nervous.

"The quill is mightier than the-" Gilbert said as the rock started lifting up and changes color.

Gilbert then stood up and then was thrown off yelling as he hits the water.

Growling was heard as Bowen turns to the waterfall, and saw a tail with copper scales and a tip was shaped a spade slithered through the falling water of the waterfall.

Then suddenly, a large object shot out of the waterfall as Bowen quickly raised his shield up blocking it. And it hits the water behind him revealing to be an old carcass of a knight and his horse.

"That's all that's left of the last dragonslayer who tangled with me!" An elderly voice said within the waterfall. "If I were you, I'd quit while I was ahead."

Gilbert then saw something floating near him, and he grabs it and saw it was an old human head with old rotten skin on it. He then screamed as he tossed the head away.

Bowen then nears the waterfall with his spear held high, and then he threw as the spear flew through the towards the waterfall. And then it struck something as a growl was heard from inside.

Bowen then yelled in triumph.

"YAH!" Gilbert cheered.

"Is that the best you can do?!" The creature yelled.

Bowen frowned and turns back to the waterfall, and then the spear was pulled through the falling water as wood breaking was heard.

"Catch!" The creature yelled.

Then suddenly several pieces of the spear flew out as Bowen blocks them with his shield.

"You know, I've got quite a collection of victims in here." The creature said.

"I won't be added to it!" Bowen yelled.

Bowen then got off his horse as it moves away, and he then placed his shield over his left arm.

"I've given you my final warning." The creature said.

Bowen then begins his approach.

"Into the mouth of death he strode." Gilbert said. "Into the gringy groom."

Then a loud growl was heard as Bowen held his shield over his head as he walks through the waterfall.

"Into the pit of fear unknown... perhaps to court his death." Gilbert continued.

Bowen soon made it pass the pouring water.

"That was good." Gilbert said. "What did I say? What did I say?"

Then suddenly a large burst of fire burns through the waterfall as Gilbert ducked under the water. And inside behind the waterfall, Bowen hid behind a boulder inside a cave hidden behind the waterfall.

At the ledge, the Riders continued watching.

"Um, Hiccup... you don't think that 3rd voice is coming...?" Fishlegs said putting pieces together.

"Quit overreacting, Fishface." Snotlout said. "Dragons can't talk. Right?"

Back in the cave, the flames soon ceased.

"A little damp for fire, isn't it?!" Bowen yelled.

"Why must you knight-errands out to make a name for yourselves always pick on us dragons?" The creature inquired.

A few yards from Bowen, within the shadows was a large dragon.

"I don't need a name!" Bowen said. "And I have a collection of my own!"

"Yeah?" The dragon said. "You're one who kills dragons for money." He said as if he heard rumors of Bowen.

"It's honest enough work." Bowen said. "One must earn a living."

"Oh, yes, one must live." The dragon said. "Well, since you seek a profit, we might as will begin."

"Oh, don't flutter yourself." Bowen said. "It's not the profit. It's the pleasure."

"Perhaps less pleasurable and more costly than you think!" The dragon said.

Then the dragon lunges forward as Bowen raised his shield up.

Outside the waterfall, Gilbert ducked as the dragon erupts through the falling water. Revealing himself with brown and copper scales with dark accents, and some orange as well. A short rounded snout with a small ridge on it making it look like a Roman nose, a set of 8 horns on his blocky head, 6 at the back of his head, and 1 over over each eye. A row of spines running down is back. Large wings, and 4 legs as the front legs had 4 clawed fingers, and the back feet with 3 toes as the 4th was shorter. And his size made him 18 feet high, 43 feet long and has a wingspan of 72.3 feet. He body shape also looks similar to that of a lion's. His size and the sound of his voice probably means he's 100 years old.

The dragon flapped his massive wings as he flies out.

Bowen was already out of the cave and quickly got on his horse.

"Bowen! Bowen, take care!" Gilbert yelled as Bowen rushed across the river. "He went that way! Take care, Bowen!"

Bowen then raced off after the dragon.

"Come on!" Hiccup said.

The Riders quickly got on their dragons flew off following them.

Bowen rode his horse as they raced through the forest.

Above him, the dragon flew overhead as the Riders weren't far behind.

Bowen soon saw the dragon as he pulls a string, and then 2 straps were pulled open revealing a bola and rope. He then grabs a hook and the rope extends out as Bowen made it to the edge of the forest and tossed the bolas into the air.

The bolas then wrapped around the dragon's right hind leg, the dragon soon felt being tugged a bit and looked back and gasped seeing the bola and rope caught on his leg.

Bowen then secures the rope on his saddle horn as he worked his horse back trying to bring the dragon down. But then the keeper strap snapped and broke as Bowen yelled as he fell off his horse. The horse then runs off.

Bowen then got up and then was suddenly dragged across the field yelling as the dragon flew pulling him. Bowen held on to the rope as he flew through some bushes as dozens of branches hit him and soon spat out some leaves in his mouth.

He soon clears the forest as he was then lifted off the ground yelling.

"You can't fly forever!" Bowen yelled.

"Neither can you!" The dragon said.

"Slow down!" Bowen yelled.

Nearby, the Riders watched as they follow them, but were completely shocked of actually seeing a talking dragon.

"A talking dragon?!" Astrid said in disbelief.

"What kind of a place is this?!" Snotlout said.

"Follow them!" Hiccup yelled.

They quickly flew after them.

"Come, visit the woods!" The dragon yelled.

The dragon flew over the forest as Bowen was flying through the trees.

"Whoa!" Bowen exclaimed holding on to dear life.

He continues yelling as he narrowly missed the trees rushing by him.

"Look out!" The dragon yelled.

Bowen saw a tree ahead of him, and quickly flew by missing it.

"Well done!" The dragon said.

But then Bowen crashed against the side of a tree.

"Ow! Pity." The dragon said. "That must have hurt."

"Yeah!" Bowen replied.

Then Bowen crashed against another tree.

"Again?" The dragon said.

Then Bowen hits a 3rd tree. "Ow!" He said.

"And again?" The dragon said. "How do you like the ride so far?" He called out as if he was enjoying this.

"He'll feel that tomorrow!" Ruffnut said enjoying the show.

"I think he'll feel that now." Tuffnut said.

Bowen yelled as he held on as he flew by the trees.

"We're earning our money now, aren't we?" The dragon said.

Bowen held onto the rope as he then saw an old fallen log caught on the fork of a tree with the edge of the forest ahead of him.

"Now, is there somewhere you would like me to drop you off?" The dragon asked.

Hiccup and the others quickly got ahead of them and hovered by the forest's edge.

Then Bowen quickly got his feet free from the stirrups, and hangs down as he nears the log.

With the Riders, Fishlegs suddenly got an uneasy feeling.

"Uh, Hiccup?" Fishlegs said.

"Yeah, Fishlegs?" Hiccup asked.

"You think it's smart to be in the way of a dragon of his size?" Fishlegs questioned.

Then Bowen's feet lands on the log as he runs up the log and the saddle soon gets caught in the tree fork. Bowen then jumps down as the rope was then pulled.

And then the dragon was pulled back. "Yikes!" He exclaimed.

"Oh, no." Snotlout trembled seeing the dragon coming at them.

"Oh, Thor!" Hiccup exclaimed.

The dragon then crashed into all of them before they had the chance to move, and the fell and landed behind a hill hitting the ground as some plant debris was thrown into the air.

Bowen groaned as he got up, and reaches back pulling his sword out from it's sheath.

"Oh, I am hurt." Tuffnut's voice groaned. "I am very much hurt."

"The sword against the fang and claw." Gilbert said who was nearby and had followed them and on Merlin. "The flame against the shield. Blah, blah, blah, which one would win? Blah, blah, field, shield, wield. Whose flesh from bones be peeled. Oh, no. Whose fate would soon be sealed." He then hops off Merlin. "Whose fate would soon be sealed?" He quickly ran off. "Whose fate would soon be sealed!"

He quickly rushed to a ridge of hill with a stick in his right hand, and looked down the hill as the dragon was busy trying to get the ropes off his leg. Hiccup and the Riders recovered from the fall as well as their dragons. And Bowen making his way towards them.

"Oh, you're good." Bowen said holding his sword up. "Haven't had this sort of challenge in some time. And I think I got myself a bonus with 6 more."

Toothless then growled at him.

"Nor likely to again!" The dragon said turning to him.

The the spade tip of tail popped open 4 blades and closed them.

And then the dragon started swinging his tail around as Bowen avoids getting hit by it. Bowen then ducked as the tail swung over him, and then jumps over it as it get back.

On the hilltop, Gilbert watched as he swung the stick.

Then Bowen swung his sword at the tail, but then the tail dodges it, and then the tail struck him as Bowen flew back and hits a tree. And then the dragon swung his tail through the tree like a hot knife through butter missing Bowen by several inches. Bowen then rolls away as the tree hits the ground.

The dragon growled as he lifted his tail up again. Bowen then rolls across the ground as the dragon's tail slams and hits the ground using it like an axe just barely missing him a couple times.

Bowen quickly got up and the dragon lifted his tail up high as Bowen leaps over a log as the dragons slams his tail swiftly down hitting the long and missed him.

The dragon then tries to pull his tail away, but then saw it was stuck in the log as he tries to pull it free.

"Drat!" The dragon cursed.

The dragon continues trying to get his tail as Bowen came out from behind the log.

"A little overconfident, aren't we?" Bowen said lightly smirking.

"Hardly." The dragon said trying to pull his tail free. "But if you win, you'll be out of work."

"I will not stop until I've rid the world of every last one of you." Bowen said.

"I AM THE LAST ONE!" The dragon roared with rage.

Then the dragon inhales deeply as his nostrils flared, and Bowen quickly ran as the dragon then snorted a blast of fire through his nostrils instead of his mouth. And the fire blast hits the ground near Bowen as he ran by a pile a sticks. And a 2nd fireball hits the pile as dozens of sticks were tossed into the air and fell creating a cloud of smoke.

The smoke soon clears, and revealed Bowen lightly coated in ash.

"You're just trying to save your scaly hide with tricks." Bowen said.

He then saw a piece of wood on his right shoulder, and brushed it off.

"Haven't you noticed the pickings are rather slim these days?" The dragon questioned.

"I got me 1 just the other day." Bowen said.

"So it was you who killed the Scarred One." The dragon said. "She and I were the last." He said as he and she were the last pair. "Must've be a proud kill, warrior. How much gold did her tattered carcass put in your purse?"

"That's none of your business." Bowen said.

"Couldn't have been very much." The dragon said. "And you'll kill me for sport? And when there are no more dragons to slay..." He then noticed Bowen nearing the rope. "...how will you make a living Knight?" He then saw Bowen standing over it.

"Shut up!" Bowen yelled.

Then the dragon swiftly lifted his right hind leg up, and the rope sprung up hitting Bowen as he yelled in pain. And he was tossed in the air and hits the ground as he groans in pain.

"Ooh, he'll feel that tomorrow." Tuffnut said cringing.

Then the dragon roars out loudly similar to a lion's, and then his lower jaw unhinges like that of a Boa Constrictor or any other snake. And then, 2 teeth on his upper teeth pulled back like a switchblade, and then a pair of serrated fangs fold out like those of a viper.

Bowen quickly rolled and grabbed his sword as the dragon continued roaring.

The dragon roared and turns to Bowen and lowers down, and then grabs Bowen in his mouth.

"Whoa!" Bowen yelled.

The dragon lifts his head up, but then Bowen jabs the tip of his sword at the roof of the dragon's mouth as he halt his attack feeling the sword-tip. And held his head up.

"If your teeth come down, my sword goes up, right into your brain!" Bowen said.

Hours later, it was now night as the moon shined.

And Bowen was still in the dragon's mouth holding his sword at the roof of the mouth.

"If your sword goes up, my teeth come down!" The dragon yelled muffled.

The Twins and Snotlout had recently fell asleep as the dragon's tail was freed after Hiccup helped as well removing the ropes off his leg.

"Into the moonlit night the titans dueled... in mortal combat bound." Gilbert said still at his spot on the hill as the 2 argued. "Oh, who'd the fatal false step make? Whose blood would stain the ground?"

He then yawned.

"Should we help out, or...?" Astrid asked.

"Uh, maybe not yet." Hiccup said.

Bowen sat on the dragon's tongue still holding his sword at the roof of the mouth. And then he noticed something caught in the dragon's back teeth, he then grabs it and shook it and soon pulls it free. And saw it was an old rotten human arm with some flesh on it, and then his eyes widen recognizing it.

"Oh, good Lord." Bowen said. "Sir Eglamore."

He then tossed the arm away as it hits the ground as Astrid groaned in disgust.

The dragon then sighed in relief. "Oh, thank you very much." He kindly said. "It's been stuck down there for months. Can you get your buttocks off my tongue?"

"Why should you be comfortable?" Bowen said. "My armor is rusting in your drool, and your breath is absolutely foul."

"Well, what do you expect... with old knights rotting between my molars?" The dragon said. "Oh, God, my mouth is so dry."

Then the dragon started acting up and gags.

"No, no, no, stop!" Bowen said as the dragon continues gagging. "No, stop!"

Then the dragon coughs up a bit of mucus as it hits Bowen in the face. And he groaned in disgust wiping it off.

"Sorry about that." The dragon apologized.

"How do you think I feel?" Hiccup said turning to Toothless.

Toothless narrowed his eyes and whacks Hiccup at the back of his head with his wing.

"It seems we're in bit of a stalemate, wouldn't you say?" The dragon said.

"Yuck!" Bowen wiped the mucus off him. "But I can go for 3 days without sleep."

"I can go 3 weeks." The dragon said as if accepting a challenge.

"Ooh!" Bowen growled. "I'll stab you before I nod off."

"And I'll chomp you." The dragon said. "Marvelous, we'll kill each other."

"What do you suggest?" Bowen questioned.

"A truce." The dragon said. "Get out of my mouth and let's talk face-to-face."

"I'm really sure you don't have much of a choice." Hiccup said.

"How do I know I can trust you?" Bowen inquired.

"I give you my word." The dragon said.

"The word of a dragon." Bowen scoffed as if it was a joke. "It's worthless."

Then the dragon growled. "Stubborn lout!"

He then pushed Bowen out of his mouth with his tongue, and Bowen fell and hits the ground. And then the dragons lifts his front left hand and then pins him down.

"I should have known!" Bowen said. "Go on. Kill me!"

The dragon then folds back his fangs, and then fixies his jaw back.

"I don't want to kill you!" The dragon said. "I never did! And I don't want you to kill me! How do we gain? If you win, you lose a trade. If I win, I wait around for the next sword slinger thirsting to carve a reputation out of my hide. And I'm tired of lurking in holes and skulking in darkness. I'm gonna let you up now. And if you insist we can pursue this fracas to its final stupidity." He then lifts his hand up holding a finger. "Or... you can listen to my alternative."

"Alternative?" Heather frowned.

Bowen groaned as he rolled and grabs his sword, and groaned more as he got to his feet.

"Hmm?" The dragon lowered down to him.

"What's the alternative?" Bowen asked giving out.

Author's Note:

I must admit, the special effects that brought dinosaurs to life in Jurassic Park did great for creating a dragon for Draco. And like the dinosaur animatronics, they used a model mouth for Bowen sit in, and even a model leg.

Designing Draco started with the Jurassic Park T. Rex, but making a test video of the T. Rex with an appearance more like a dragon, and less of a dinosaur.

Draco also has the shape of a Chinese Lion. And Draco's snout does almost look like that of Jurassic Park's T. Rex.

And Sean Connery was great choice for Draco.

And you might had noticed a reference from Ice Age: The Meltdown, since both films were 10 years apart.
