Hello again everyone!
I hope you like my one-shots so far! Here's the next one, and it also features Piper and Jason!
Enjoy!
Stuck in the Infirmary
"This is so B-O-R-I-N-G," Leo said dramatically, laying on the infirmary bed with his cast-covered foot suspended in the air. "I blame you, Jason."
"What," the blond-haired son of Jupiter asked incredulously. "You're the one who suggested I help you test out your mechanical wings! How is it my fault you fell into the Canoe Lake?"
"You were controlling the wind, and it blew my hair into my eyes," the injured demigod replied, fiddling with some pieces of scrap metal to keep his hands occupied.
"I told you it was looking a little long," Piper spoke up, taking Jason's hand. "But you're lucky that it wasn't that bad a break and that you got some ambrosia; you should be fine in about a week."
"A week," Leo whined, banging his head against his pillow. "I can't be out of commission for a week! Who's gonna work on the Argo II, and run the Hephaestus cabin, and tell jokes that are both witty and charming to lift everyone's spirits?"
"I think we'll manage," the girl laughed as she and Jason stood up. "C'mon; they probably want you to get some rest."
"Don't leave me here," the tinkerer half-blood said, dramatically reaching out towards them as they walked away.
"Don't worry," Jason replied. "We'll be back with breakfast tomorrow morning." The couple left the room shortly after, leaving the injured boy alone.
Immediately, as soon as the door closed, Leo put his plan into action. The scraps of metal in his hands were now a simple blade, which he tossed at the line holding up his injured leg. With a quick snap, the line was cut, and the demigod grit his teeth as his foot hit the mattress. He waited a minute as the pain subsided a little, and then he finally sat up, slowly moving his feet towards the edge of the bed. Then, bracing himself again, he slowly swung his feet off the bed and onto the ground.
Okay, the teen thought. I just gotta walk out of the room, down the stairs, away from the Big House, and all the way to Bunker Nine without being seen. Wish I had Annabeth's invisible hat.
"Here I go," Leo thought, bracing himself to stand up and put his weight onto his good foot. "One… two…"
The door to the infirmary suddenly banged open, and the demigod yelped, quickly falling back onto his bed as he quickly swung his legs back up. However, he had forgotten how much it would hurt, and cried out with pain as his injured foot hit the end of the bed.
"Styx," a voice yelped, and Coach Hedge quickly trotted over to him. "What were you doin', Valdez?"
"I… Nothing," Leo lied, wincing as his left foot throbbed with pain.
The satyr frowned, crossing his arms.
"You know I can tell when you're lyin'," the coach said. "Satyrs can read emotions, remember?"
"I don't think lying's an emotion," the teen countered.
The middle-aged satyr rolled his eyes, looking at the boy's busted foot.
"Jason and Chiron had a sneakin' suspicion that you might try to sneak out of the infirmary before you get better," Hedge said. "They figured that the desire to tinker and build or whatever it is you do would be too great, so they sent me to guard you."
"No way," Leo gasped.
"Better believe it, Cupcake," the satyr coach said, hoisting his baseball bat like a club. "You're stayin' here all night."
"C'mon, Coach Hedge," the half-blood pleaded. "I promise I'll sit in a wheelchair the whole time! I'll even go to bed before midnight!"
"Nope," Coach Hedge said, sitting on the empty bed next to his. "And seein' that you can barely stand on your own, I doubt you could take me in a fight."
"Uugh," the teen groaned, covering his face with his hand. Stuck in the infirmary all night with a crazy satyr instead of working on the ship. Why was life so unfair?
"C'mon, it won't be so bad," the middle-aged satyr said. "I can tell you about all of the monsters I've killed in my day."
"Please, no," Leo said.
"You sure? Some of them are pretty gory!"
"I'm good." The son of Hephaestus looked up at the ceiling, his fingers constantly tapping the sheets of his bed with a nervous energy. He was silent as a few minutes passed, the only sounds being Hedge occasionally shifting in his seat, sighing a little. Finally, after ten minutes, the teen could take it no longer.
"Please-"
"Not gonna happen," the coach said, shaking his head. "You're stayin' here."
"I saved the world and this is what I get," Leo muttered.
"Ha!" The satyr shook his head, chuckling a little. "Looks like your head's gettin' a little big there, Valdez!"
"Pfft! As if," the half-blood said, rolling his eyes a little. "I just think that I should be able to work on the Argo II with a broken foot! I don't need to stay in bed for a week!"
Coach Hedge sighed.
"Look, I know it's hard, Valdez," the middle-aged satyr said. "Most demigods have ADHD, and hate bein' stuck in the infirmary. But I also know that you're mature enough to stay in bed all week so you can get back to trainin'."
"That's… actually very nice of you to say," Leo said, grinning at the coach. "Thanks, Coach! I definitely will stay in here all week, heal up, and be ready to give my all when I return to training!"
"Mm-hmm. You know I'm gonna stay awake all night, right? So any plans to sneak out are not gonna happen on my watch."
The half-blood teenager gasped. "Coach! How could you accuse me of such a thing?! I thought you trusted me!"
"I trust you about as far as I can throw you."
"Thanks."
"Also, Chiron says I'm on night duty all week, so don't try to get any ideas of escapin'."
"... Shoot."
