Chapter 2: Miss Gulch takes Diego away
(An angry woman rides her bicycle down the country road to the farm, this is Miss Gulch she has a basket on the back of her bicycle. Then she leaned her bicycle against the fence while Tommy is holding a paint brush.)
Miss Gulch: Mr. Oliver.
Tommy: Howdy, Miss Gulch.
Miss Gulch: (Comes into the yard) I want to see you and your wife right away about Eva.
Tommy: Eva? Well, what has Eva done?
Miss Gale: What's she done? I'm all but lame from the bite on my leg!
Tommy: Oh! You mean she bit you?
Miss Gulch: No, her little nephew!
Tommy: Oh, she bit her nephew eh? (Shuts the fence door)
Miss Gulch: (Exasperated) No!
(The scene switches to the living room where Miss Gulch lectures Tommy and Hayley about Diego. While Eva holds her nephew Diego in her arms protectively.)
Miss Gulch: (Angrily) That little boy is a menace to the community. I'm taking him to the sheriff to make sure he will go to a daycare.
Eva: Daycare? Diego? Oh, you can't! You musn't! Aunt Hayley! Uncle Tommy! You won't let her will you?
Tommy: Oh course we won't. (To Hayley) Uh, will we Hayley?
Eva: (Goes to Hayley) Please, Aunt Hayley! Diego didn't mean to. He didn't know he was doing anything wrong. I'm the one that ought to be punished. I was babysitting and let him go in her garden. You can send me to bed without supper.
Miss Gulch: If you don't hand over the little boy, I'll bring a damage suit that'll l take your whole farm. There's a law protecting folks against kids that bite.
Hayley: How would it be if she babysit him? He's a year old, really gentle, with gentle people that is.
Miss Gulch: Well, that's for the sheriff to decide. (Pulls out the sheriff's order) Here's his order, so allow me to him. Unless you wanna go against the law.
Tommy: (Takes the order) Hm. Yes.
Hayley: Uh, we can't go against the law, Eva. I'm afraid poor little Diego has to go.
Miss Gulch: Now you're seeing reason.
Eva: No.
Miss Gulch: (Pulls out the basket) Here's what I'm taking him in, so he can't attack me again.
Eva: (Upset, protesting) No, No! I won't let you take him! You go away or I'll bite you myself!
Hayley: Eva!
Eva: You wicked old witch! Uncle Tommy, Aunt Hayley, don't let her take Diego.
Miss Gulch: (Trying to grab Diego) I've got an order! Let me have him!
Eva: Please stop her!
Hayley: Put him in the basket, Tommy.
Miss Gulch: The idea!
Eva: (Begging) Don't, Uncle Tommy. (Tommy puts Diego in the basket while he cried.) (On the verge of tears) Oh, Diego!
(Eva runs to her bedroom crying.)
Winona: (Furiously) Almira Gulch! Just because you own half the county doesn't mean you have the power to run the rest of us. For 23 years, I've been dying to tell you what I thought of you. And now, well, being a Christian woman, I can't say it!
(Hayley goes to Eva's room, Tommy sits down on the chair and Miss Gulch stood there shocked.)
