Rei's Battle
"Do you remember when we first met?" Shun looked at Rei, her head bandaged from an attack by an Academia soldier. Luckily Shun managed to defeat them and quickly take her back to the base and get her patched up staying by her side and was surprised by the question.
"Why are you asking me that now?" He questioned. She gave a small smile as she looked up.
"I remember that day. Aoi and Ruri wanted to introduce all of us to each other, and remember our reactions?" She asked.
"We were at each other's throats." He sighed, yet had a smirk.
She snickered, flicking at her left wing earring. "We were so competitive, almost as bad as you and Aoi." She smiled.
"It made me believe you 2 were cousins." He scoffed. "You're both so stubborn."
"Least you like me better." She chuckled. He looked at her, seeing the distant expression on her face.
"Why bring it up?" He asked curiously.
"Remembering…" She began. "... Helps a bit."
"Helps?" He questioned.
"To keep fighting." She told him. "Remembering the good memories we all had helps me in battle. It helps me know that it's worth it to keep fighting despite the horrible situations coming to us."
He looked shocked before he understood. Many of them have been fighting for so long most either lose the will to fight or worse forget what they've been fighting for in the first place. They have fought for so long it wouldn't come as a surprise that it is taking a toll on them. He reached over taking her hand. "Hey we're going to get through this." He told her.
"I believe that but…" She sighed, holding his hand. "It's still a long way."
"I know it is but all we can do is fight for us, our friends, our family, our home." He replied gently
She gave a small smile taking a deep breath. "Yeah you're right. This is our battle and we will win." She nodded. He sat next to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders to hold her close as she rested her head on his shoulder allowing herself this moment.
Rei looked over her Duel Disk with Yuto and Shun as they checked the settings. "You'll be able to cross at least one dimension, hopefully one where you can get help." Hotaru told them. "Once you do you'll still be able to come back here."
"Leave it to a scientist to be able to make this." Shun muttered with a smirk.
"Well I have some worth." Hotaru scoffed. "Just remember not to draw too much attention to yourselves and be sure the enemy won't find you."
"The same should be said for you mom." Rei frowned. "Are you sure you guys will be fine with the others?"
"All the more reason for you to go and hurry back." Hotaru replied simply, before getting serious. "The scales will be weighed soon so make the right moves, you 3."
"We will." Yuto nodded. Rei still frowned in worry, making Hotaru chuckle and pat her daughter's head.
"Calm yourself little canary. We've survived this long, we can still do so you just focus on your task." She told her.
Rei looked surprised before she nodded. "Right." She said.
Rei faced her friends lifting her duel disk.
That's right this is my battle, one that I need to win not just for myself but for my friends, family, home, and our lives.
