Chapter 2

Edward's bed room was not the biggest one in the palatial house, but it certainly was not a small room by any standard. The white king size canopy bed only took one-third of the space. Sleeping soundly in the huge bed was Edward, the eldest son and MD of the Cullen Empire.

As the morning light filtered in through the French window that open to a balcony, Edward started waking up and preparing himself for the day that lay ahead of him. It was 1st May or labour day, though it was officially a holiday for the staff, Edward hosted an annual luncheon on this day for his employees and their families. Inheriting his work ethics from his father and his grandfather, Edward believed in balancing embracing his work family and made it a point to connect personally all the while being an inspiration to all who associated with him.

Edward sauntered down two flight of stairs to reach the living room looking around for his sister in law, Esme and his niece Lily. He found them in the dining room having an animated discussion about the days festivities.

"Chachu", Lily greeted her uncle enthusiastically.

Edward smiled and kissed her on her cheek before nodding to Esme and sitting down next to Lily.

"So what has got you all excited Lily dear?"

"Oh Chachu, I get to wear a pretty dress and hang out at the boat today, all day." The 4 year old girl spoke clapping excitedly.

Smiling at her eagerness, Edward enquired about the whereabouts of his father and brother. Esme pointed at the study in regards to the Sr Cullen. Edward's elder brother Carlisle had gone to the Hospital early in the morning to finish up a couple of appointments so that he could attend the company luncheon. He had thoughtfully kept himself free and out of the Operating Room this weekend to spend much needed time with his family.

A few hours later Edward found Esme on the phone spouting last minute instructions to the event organiser in the living room. Esme had taken up the role of the lady of the house for almost a decade now. Married to Carlisle for nine years, she was the rock that held the family together. All the Cullen boys including their father Garrett felt lost without Esme's presence.

Though not born into their small but close-knit Indian community, Esme had embraced the culture and lifestyle as though it were her own. In a short span of time, she had become a devout follower of The Hindu God Lord Shiva. Being a catholic since birth she had always been religious, once exposed to the religion of her Husband, Esme managed to beautifully amalgamate it with her own. The Cullen household proudly celebrated both cultures religiously. Her daughter Lily was also being raised with the same values and beliefs.

Chachu - means Uncle, specifically father's younger brother.
