Chapter Two
The rest of the school week passed quickly, the only incident of note being that Edward Cullen had disappeared. Rumors ran rampant around the town for the first couple of days, but it was quickly put out by the Cullen family that he had simply gone to visit their cousins in Alaska. Bella thought it strange that he had been the only one to go on vacation and that he had chosen to do so just three weeks into the school year but who was she to decide when was appropriate.
She had spent the week growing closer to Angela and Jessica as well as a few of the others – enough so that she invited them to the welcome back bonfire that was being held for her on Saturday night. Because the bonfire was on Saturday night, the girls decided that they would use that morning to go on Bella's shopping trip to Sequim. Angela drove a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer that would hold much more than her small convertible, so they chose her as the driver for the outing. Leah was unavailable for the shopping trip, but she would finally be seeing her again later that night and Bella was excited to combine her friend groups.
Saturday morning came along, and Bella quickly got ready and was in the middle of eating a hastily prepared omelet when Angela honked outside. Bella sent her a quick text letting her know that she was finishing her food and proceeded to eat as fast as she could. It was all chased down with some lemonade and then she dumped her dishes in the sink before grabbing her small handbag.
Charlie was already out on the reservation fishing, so she locked up and put her keys and phone in the bag before turning towards the driveway. Angela and Jessica smiled and waved excitedly, and Bella returned the gesture. She hopped in the back seat and strapped herself in.
"Hey guys, thanks for coming with me!" She said.
"Of course! Everyone always wants to go to PA, as if Sequim isn't way more affordable!" Jessica bubbled and Angela nodded enthusiastically.
By everyone, she knew they meant Lauren Mallory. Lauren had been part of the crowd at the table and from what Bella understood, they had been a bit of a trio until a recent falling out. They were all still sociable and Bella was sure they would forgive each other but for now, it was still a bit hostile between them. It didn't help that Bella had immediately clicked with both girls on her first day at Forks High; Lauren was taking it to mean that she had been replaced while the girls were just trying to give her some space.
On the drive over, the girls belted out every song that came on the radio and joked around about the boys at Forks. Angela had her eyes on Ben Cheney but wouldn't make a move because he was shorter than her and Jessica was interested in Mike, who seemed to flirt with everyone but her. No one had caught Bella's eye yet, not that anyone was surprised. There weren't very many attractive guys in Forks, maybe 5 of the senior boys and that was including Emmett Cullen and Jasper Hale. Of all of them, the only boy who was considered passingly attractive that was single was Mike and he was taking advantage of every moment of it.
Bella had had boyfriends in Phoenix – of the tall, tan, wannabe surfer type- and none of the boys in Forks came close. She didn't have a type per se, but she did prefer them tall because of her own height and she liked them to be fit. They didn't have to have washboard abs or anything of the type but strong, thick, arms were always nice to be wrapped in. She figured that she probably wouldn't meet another one of those types until she went off to college at this point.
The hour drive passed quickly, and they were parked in front of Ross soon enough. Luckily the store had just gotten a shipment the day before and they weren't busy yet, so the girls had full reign over everything. They piled carts high with items for Bella and a few for Angela and Jessica and then took over the dressing rooms. A few hours later and six hundred dollars from Bella and she had a brand-new wardrobe appropriate for the cold.
"I'm hungry, you guys want to go get lunch?" Angela asked as soon as she was behind the wheel again, turning so that she could see both Bella and Jessica.
"Oh, please! I'm starved!" Bella piped up, dramatically throwing herself across the backseat with a hand on her stomach.
"There's this great pizza place a few blocks away from here, does that sound good?" Jessica asked after a fit of giggles.
They agreed and were soon pulling in front of a packed pizza place. Jessica and Bella hopped out to get a place in line while Angela parked the car. The hostess behind the stand flashed a smile at them and asked how many were in their party.
"Three, our friend is just parking the car!" Jessica chirped and the girl led them over to a corner booth towards the back.
Every table seemed to be taken by families, couples, and some other kids their age. One table in particular caught their attention, a group of guys who seemed to be in their early twenties. They ranged in skin tones from as pale as the occupants of Forks tended to be to the beautiful russet skin of the nearby Quileute tribe. All of them were gorgeous and even Bella who was used to pretty men had a hard time keeping her eyes off of them. Jessica elbowed her as they both stared and giggled.
"Here you are, ladies! Your server will be right with you." Another quick smile and the girl was walking back to the podium up front. A few minutes later, Angela came in and was pointed their way by the hostess.
Jessica and Bella watched as her eyes snagged on the table of hotties as well and giggled when Angela turned towards them wide eyed and mouthed "Wowza".
She sat down and they ordered a large meat lover's pie and continued to gossip and giggle. They watched as the group of men paid their check and left, not paying anyone else in the diner any mind. The pizza was out twenty minutes later- their server apologized profusely for the delay, but the girls waved her off. They could see that it was busy, they weren't going to be Karen's.
By the time the girls ate their pizza and were back in the car it was 3PM, they had sat down to lunch pretty late. Due to some mild traffic, they didn't pass the welcome to Forks sign until an hour and a half later and Bella felt that same weird current that she had the first night she'd driven into town. She shrugged it off and the girls unloaded all of her things and brough them upstairs where they also decided to help her put it away.
Bella found her Bluetooth speaker and connected her phone, pulling up her apple music and hitting shuffle. The girls danced around and laughed while putting the clothes away and once it hit 6 they started to take turns taking showers. Bella let her guests go first while she finished putting away the last of her things and then laid out her makeup collection on her dresser for them to use. Her dresser mirror had LED lights built in with a switch that could turn them on and off on the side of the dresser. She was flipping them on as Angela came back from the bathroom in her towel. Jessica was already dressed and in the process of brushing her hair as Bella slipped out of the room and into the bathroom.
She turned the water on full blast as hot as it would go and quickly stripped out of her clothes before stepping under the spray. She had left the door slightly cracked so she could still hear the music and Bella sang along with the song and she lathered, rinsed, and shaved every part of her body. Twenty minutes later she was stepping out of the water and toweling off and wrapping another towel around her head. She lathered on some lotion and washed her face at the sink before meandering back to her room.
"Bella, it's going on eight o'clock, we should wrap up if we want to get there before nine." Angela piped up from where she was putting the finishing touches on a natural face of makeup.
Jessica nodded her agreement but continued to lay prone on Bella's bed and bobbing her feet in the air. It seemed she was done getting ready. Bella let out a chuckle at her friend's antics before dropping her towel and heading towards her closet. She had already put on her underwear in the bathroom, so she wasn't embarrassed to be in front of her friends. After all, walking around in your underwear exposed the same amount as walking around in a bathing suit.
She found a form fitting green long sleeved crop top, it hugged her breast, and the material was thin enough that she wouldn't get too hot at the bonfire. She paired those with low rise black jeans and tucked her feet into some plain black Nike's. Bella quickly brushed out her hair and applied some mascara and eyeliner before swiping some lip gloss on. Grabbing a thick raincoat from her closet just in case she needed it, she declared herself ready.
"Alright, if we leave now, we'll make it just a little after nine." Jessica piped up from the bed as she and Angela grabbed their raincoats as well.
They filed downstairs and out to Angela's car since Charlie was already out on the reservation waiting for her.
"So, Bella, are you excited to see your friends again? What's it been like five years?" Angela asked from the front seat as she pulled out of the drive and got on the road.
"Pretty much, I've facetimed with them. Mostly with Leah, but it's not the same. Thankfully, I'm back and I have no plans to leave for that long ever again." Bella said a bit strongly.
Jessica made eye contact with Angela in the rear-view mirror but they both wisely didn't ask any more about it.
"I can't believe we're going off to college next year, have you guys started applying?" Jessica changed the topic.
They went on about colleges and applications until the made it to First Beach and Angela pulled in next to Charlie's pick up. The smell of salty ocean on the breeze and the unlit bonfires scattered across the beach brought a smile to Bella's face. She could hear a low thump of music over by the only lit bonfire on the beach. There were 25-30 people milling about and tables set up with food and snacks.
The girls walked down to the beach and Bella quickly found her dad.
"Hey pops!" She exclaimed as she snuck up behind him.
Charlie to his credit didn't jump though his friends could tell he had been frightened and all let out a chuckle. He turned to face his daughter and her friends and Bella could see that he was glassy eyed. Charlie was well on his way to being drunk and Bella couldn't help but smile. It was good to see her dad so laid back. Charlie slung an arm around his daughter and reintroduced her to some of his old friends she hadn't been as familiar with as a kid since they didn't have children her age.
Jessica and Angela had wandered off to a bonfire where other kids their age seemed to be gravitating. Bella said a quick goodbye to her dad and his friends and started to make her way over to where she could see her friends. She was halfway there when she heard "Hells Bells, how many years has it been since you were playing around in my backyard?"
Bella turned to see Billy Black standing over by one of the snack tables with his wife Sarah along with Harry and Sue Clearwater. She broke out into a smile and run and was soon enveloped in a group hug with the two groups she considered her secondary parents.
"I've missed you guys so much!" She mumbled into Sarah's shoulder.
"Oh, sweet girl, we've missed you too." Sue said as she lovingly smoothed a hand over Bella's hair.
3rd person- Omni POV
The party goers on the beach watched as the girl of the hour embraced her bonus parents with smiles on their faces. Everyone in attendance loved both the Chief and his daughter dearly and they were extremely glad to see her happy and healthy after so many years of her being kept away from Washington by her mother. They were even happy to see that she had made friends in Forks. Due to tribal traditions, she was not allowed to go to school on the tribe and some had worried that she would be lonely since all of her friends since childhood resided and went to school on the res. They needn't have worried; their girl was beloved by all who met her.
Her friends mingled with and talked to the Brat Pack who hadn't initially seen Bella show up but were now waiting for her to finish her reunion with their parents. When she turned to them, Leah couldn't contain her excitement and dashed over to meet her. They collided almost violently and toppled over into the sand with a screech of surprise from Bella that then dissolved into giggles from both the girls. Those giggles soon turned into tears as the girls mourned the years that they had been kept apart due to Renee. Jacob and Seth looked at each other and wandered over before settling themselves over both the girls on the ground. Bella let out another cry as she saw what she considered to be her boys and then took a deep breath and moved to wipe her tears away.
"It's so good to see you all again." She mumbled into Seth's shoulder and then they were all standing up and in another group hug.
Everyone watched the bittersweet scene with smiles on their faces and some even held tears in their own eyes.
They knew that too soon; everything would be changing. For all of them.
Okay, this is not at all where I envisioned this chapter going or ending but I still like it, so let's consider this one a filler. When I first posted this story, I had an amazing opening scene, but it was for an original work and I didn't want to use it for this, so I started over. Because of that I didn't have an actual idea of what I wanted to write, just that I'm trying to get into writing again and I love twilight fanfiction. However, I now have a general story line going on in my head that I'm pretty excited about and we're going to start down that path next chapter. I still don't have an update schedule as I both work full time and am in online college, but here's to hoping at least once a month if not biweekly! Thanks for reading! - Marieorsomething
