GOLDRUSH
I have a boyfriend whose eyes twinkle when he looks at me and who captures a million stares every time he walks into a room. He seems to only have eyes for me although it seems like everyone else has eyes for him. He told me that he loves me and then told me I didn't have to say it back as soon as he saw the look on my face. But then I laughed and laughed and told him that I loved him too. Because I do. Because I have since as long as I can remember. Because he's Derek Shepherd and he's thoughtful and beautiful. So beautiful.
Derek is taking me out tonight and I know that every woman and some men will be eyeing him the whole time and a part of me hates it. I don't want anyone else looking at what's mine but that's part of the package of dating him. And it's worth it to be with Derek and to be loved by Derek.
I'm not sure if he knows that it's my birthday today and I'm hoping that none of my friends told him. I'm not big on birthdays because they were never really celebrated in the Grey household. I'm sure they were before my dad left but I don't have any memories of that and Ellis thinks birthdays aren't worth celebrating. 'Just one year closer to death' she says and overtime I've learned not to have expectations or hope for the day.
Even though, I'm not big on birthdays, I still want to look my best. It just seems like the appropriate thing to do to reign in another year of growing older. I'll be wrapping up my first year of medical school soon at Harvard, nonetheless. Pretty impressive for a now 23-year-old I think to myself not that Ellis agrees.
There's a knock on the door of my college house that I share with my best friends Sadie & Alex. He's going to say my name and every part of my body is going to ache for him, but it won't be as bad as when we're out and every person is wishing that it was his hands on them not knowing all the things we do together when we're alone. It causes a blush to my face and a grin. 'God I love him' I think to myself as I open the door to see his grin and that twinkle in his eyes only reserved for me.
"Mer" he says when I open the door and instantly my arms are wrapped around his neck.
My lips melt into his and I close the door with our bodies wrapped around each other. He pushes my hair out of my face while his lips never leave mine. Before I know it, he's carrying me up the stairs to my bedroom and I am barely dressed in just my panties. My dress was discarded somewhere downstairs by him. So quickly by him that I barely noticed. On the other hand, he is unfortunately fully clothed. He drops me on my bed and I quickly help him remove his pants while never breaking our kiss.
My hands explore his perfect thick hair, and his kisses move down my body. The sex, my God. The sex is mind blowing and we fit so perfectly. We orgasm almost perfectly in sync. I've never experienced that before and I know he hasn't either.
"Happy birthday" he mumbles in my ear as we catch our breath and I offer him a smile. He leans over and kisses my forehead.
"I don't know if there's a better present than an orgasm" he teases, and I roll my eyes.
"I'm not big on birthdays" I tell him
"We'll have to change that." He winks
"So far this is probably the best birthday I've ever had" I admit, and he gives me a smile. The Derek smile. The smile that only I get from his face. The smile that warms me to my core. The smile that I think about when we're a part. The smile I never want to see go away.
"Sex with me is that good?" he jokes, and I punch his arm
He pulls me on top of him and starts tickling me and I scream "Derek stop" but he doesn't and I secretly like it.
"In all seriousness, you didn't think I would let the girl I love's birthday pass without a real present?"
"Well then help me get cleaned up so I can go unwrap this present" I tell him seductively, getting out of bed fully naked and walking into my bathroom turning on the shower.
He's quick to follow and we're a little too focused on round two than getting clean as I moan into him for the umpteenth time as he cums into me against my shower wall.

After multiple rounds of mind-blowing sex, I get Meredith out of the house to finally properly celebrate her 23rd birthday. She deserves a good birthday. Hell, she deserves the best birthday. I can't believe that I've been with this amazing person for almost six months now. We've been "on" since the moment we met back in December and I can't picture my life without her at this point. There's something about the spring in Boston that just feels like magic. The weather has warmed up a bit and she looks amazing in her lowcut black dress and heels. Meredith rarely wears heels and it's nice seeing her dressed up although I wouldn't care if she wore her ratty Harvard tee-shirt every day.
She has no idea what I planned but I've learned her well enough to know that it can't be something too over the top. I thought about a surprise party but quickly ruled that out. Boston's a beautiful city so I knew there would be a ton of amazing spots we could check out but I wanted to do something for her that I knew would mean a lot. I finally worked out the perfect plan and charmed a few of my friends at the hospital into helping me out. This could go horribly wrong but if it went right- it would be so worth the risk.
I took her out to dinner first. We bantered and I couldn't keep my hands off of her. I noticed a lot of men staring and it pissed me off but ultimately, I was the one she was going home with, so I had no reason to be jealous.
She ate every bite of dessert and I was amazed. How could such a tiny person eat the way she did? She out-ate me every time we had a meal together. She blamed it on a fast metabolism, and I believed it.
I was nervous on the drive back. We weren't far from our final birthday destination and I knew as we inched closer, she would get suspicious.
When we were really close, I noticed her crouching down in her seat and I laughed.
"Mer- what are you doing?" I asked her
"We're near the hospital and I don't want my mom to accidently see us." she explained, and I frowned
"Mer- you do know your mom is in New York for the East Coast Surgical Convention, right?" I informed her. She looked shocked for a moment and then re-covered.
"Must have slipped my mind" she muttered, and I realized that Ellis must not have bothered to tell her daughter.
"You did talk to your mom today right?" I pressed.
Meredith said nothing. I reached for her hand.
The chief could be heartless. Apparently to her own daughter as well not even bothering to wish her a happy birthday.
I pulled into the staff entrance at Mass Gen and Meredith's eyes perked up.
"What are we doing here Derek?" she asked, and I smiled.
"I forgot something. It's a part of your gift. Come with me?"
"I should probably just wait in the car. I don't want word getting back to Ellis." Meredith stated
"Oh, come on. I'll make sure it won't."
Meredith hesitated but gave in. She followed me at a distance through the hospital and tried to keep from anyone noticing her. Of course, they did. My friends waited outside of OR 2 with bulging eyes pleading with me to hurry up.
"Mer- see this locker room over here?" I told her pointing the interns shared locker room.
"Yes" she replied
"There are a pair of blue scrubs in there waiting for you." I told her
"What?" she asked
"You're scrubbing into a craniotomy with me tonight." I told her and watched as her eyes lit up
"Derek. How?"
I shrugged "I convinced a new neuro attending that we have a med-school program where first year med students could observe surgical procedures under the supervision of a resident."
She was awestruck but not as awestruck as when she watched the entire surgery. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. For the first time in my life, something was more interesting to me than the inside mechanics of the human brain.
Luckily the new neuro attending wasn't very observant to anything other than his patients and didn't know that Meredith was Ellis Grey's daughter.
When the surgery wrapped up – successfully I might add, Meredith gave me a look I'd never seen before and I grinned at her.
"I don't know why anybody does drugs" she told me breathless. It took my breath for a moment.
"Yeah" I agreed
"Yeah" she responded
"Happy Birthday Meredith" I told her.
Later that night, I held her in my arms.
"What did you think of your birthday?" I whispered before placing a kiss on her head.
"Honestly?" she replied, and I eyed her in anticipation.
"It was the best birthday I've ever had. I don't know how you're going to top it next year." She teased and I laughed before pulling her into a deep kiss.
Sparks we're already going off and soon I'd be deep inside of her.
The people who were a part of the goldrush couldn't have felt as lucky as I had in every moment since I met Meredith Grey.
