After a while, Mario arrived at E. Gadd's lab. 'So, you come into my lab to borrow my time machine?' Asked the professor. 'Yes,' answered Mario, 'This is for the sake of Meggy, having darkness of sadness surrounding her. May I use it?' E. Gadd then said, 'I suppose I should, but son, listen well, since this is very important!'
'When you alter Desti's death, things will change dramatically, whether it may be good or bad (I only hope it's good)…' continued, worrisomely, 'But after her death, Meggy will probably no longer be a human again, and she will remain in Inkopolis. Also, she will have a good life with Desti for years to come. Do you understand?' 'Yes,' answered Mario. 'Alright then,' said E. Gadd, 'Follow me.'
E. Gadd then led Mario to a secret room. He then pressed a few buttons, making the secret door open. 'To be honest, I've never tested this time machine,' he said, 'Mario, I'll give you this time machine, also known as TARDIS. With this, you can go back in time like moments before Desti was stabbed. Are you absolutely, positively want to alter Desti's death?'
Mario thought for a while, and said, 'I'll do what I must do.' 'Well, I can't stop you, go ahead,' said E. Gadd, 'And remember, never see your past self, or else you will be erased from existence.' Mario nodded his head, then went into the time machine. 'Good luck, Mario…' E. Gadd whispered to himself.
After Mario arrived the moments before Desti was stabbed, he saw False Sephiroth, who was going to stab Past Desti. Mario then rushed to the Octoling. 'DESTI!' He shouted, pushing Past Desti away. Unfortunately, he saw his past self at the process. Past Desti asked the red plumber, 'Mayo! What's happened? Why did you—' 'Francis drew another anime to kill you,' Mario explained, 'And I travelled through time to save you, preventing that happen. But I saw my past self, so I'm erased from existence, as E. Gadd said that… Remember to never tell anyone about me. Farewell…' said Mario, then he faded away. 'Mayo!' Past Desti cried.
Meanwhile, Past Francis was killed by the gang in the past, and they were freeing Past Meggy and transporting ink back to her body. 'Desti! We need your help! Now Mario is gone!' Shouted Past Tari. Past Desti then went there, helping Past Meggy with the others. However, the octoling was still feeling thankful and sad to her future saviour.
