This was written as part of getyourwordsout's Yahtzee challenge and to the prompt "Crunch". I've had to write 100-399 words to count for the challenge.

I'm super fascinated by 1492 and all the possibilities of that time and the relationships between the Mikaelson brothers and Katherine. I hope to dabble more in that era.

summary: Elijah and Katerina play a game of chase.

part three: cheating

With a gentle press of her foot, Katerina slowly tiptoes her way across fallen and dry foliage on the floor of the woods. Despite being cloaked by the thick canopy of brown and green leaves above her head, she knows that she's not safe. Elijah will find her. He has a perceptively sharp nose for a lord.

The tip of her horse riding boots presses down against bark and dry, thick leaves, making a gentle crunch sound. She stops abruptly, breath caught in her chest as she looks around the woods, expecting him to be poorly hiding behind a thin trunk.

When Katerina deduces the coast is clear, she picks up the skirts of her dress and lifts her other foot, boot pressing down against soft earth. The moment she presses weight against it, arms wrap warmly and solidly around her waist.

Tugged to his chest, she laughs loudly. His hands flatten against her belly as he holds her tightly to him, picking her feet off the ground.

"Got you," he whispers against her ear. Katerina hates the way she shivers against him, hoping that he'll believe it to be the slight chill in the air.

Pressing her lips together, she clears her throat. "You cheated." Looking at him from over her shoulder, she shakes her head. "Cheating is against the rules, my lord."

He chuckles warmly. "And I told you to call me Elijah, Lady Katerina."

"Don't change the subject," she says with an upward tilt of her chin. She tries her best to pin him down with a withering stare. He only smiles wider.

"I won," he smiles. "What's my prize?"

Noting how he looks down at her mouth as she bites her bottom lip, she twists in his arms and presses her mouth to his.
