Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together

Drunken Disaster

=~;~=

Link was angry, furious even, it had been another uneventful business venture to the Rito Village and today was the absolute last day. He had slain lizalfo, bokoblins, moblins, Hinox and a multitude of other creatures, yet he could not muster the courage to talk to Revali. Why did he even bother? Why did he come to the village in the first place? Princess Zelda didn't really need him to protect her anymore, no more monsters attacking at random and no more calamity to fear.

"You look tired," Zelda said, suddenly. Link straightened, as he realized that she was talking to him. "You should go rest, I'm perfectly safe here and I won't take no for an answer. Go. Rest." Link was actually about to argue but she stopped him with those last few words. He heaved a heavy sigh and complied with her demands. Link made his way back to the inn, from the upper landings of the village to the lower. He took a seat at the bar and began accepting drinks. He accepted his fifth when a rito walked up from behind him, he decided against looking back.

"Innkeeper, the usual," Link wanted to hit his head on the bar, of course Revali would show up. The haughty warrior sat down next to him, it was oddly familiar, they had definitely sat here before. Only the last time they had met it had ended in an inn bedroom, this time would be different. He was a little surprised the other male wasn't challenging him to a drinking game but then again, he would have to decline. Link refused to even look in the warrior's direction, somewhat for fear. And somewhat for embarrassment, as he had unintentionally been avoiding the other male every time he visited. "Let's see, should I broach this subject or will you." He shot a glare in Revali's direction, only to see the other male was already glaring at him.

"What subject?" Link asked.

"Fine, I guess I will. Why have you been avoiding me?" Revali asked. Link very nearly shot his drink out of his nose, as it was he was half choking on it.

"I haven't been," Link lied, once he recovered.

"Hmm, fine. Drink with me," Revali challenged. Link wanted to decline, wanted to leave right then and there but it would only prove the rito right if he did.

"Fine but I'm not doing any kind of drinking challenge," Link said, without thinking.

"Oh?" Revali said, questioningly. "Are to scared to go claw to claw with me in a drinking challenge?"

"It's not that, the hangovers are difficult deal with," Link groused, wondering why he was still there and not leaving. Instead he ended up downing the rest of his shot in one go, what was it about anger that made him drink? What was it about Revali that made him want to drink, to forget? After three shots he finally slowed down, he was now feeling pretty good about himself. Link occasionally peered over at Revali who was surprisingly silent, it felt awkward but he was able to shake the feeling rather easily. "How was your day?"

"Small talk is it?" Revali questioned, smugly. "Well, it wasn't nearly as eventful as it was, when there were monsters attacking everywhere. Hmph, I find I miss the chaoticness of that time, it's all gone back to routine and normalcy." Link felt a little sad, Revali had just brought up a quarter of what he was feeling. "Now I'm bored, irritated and looking for a challenge." Link downed another shot, against his better judgment. "How is your day?"

"I feel like.. like I lost my place in the world," Link replied, a little depressed. He had been trained his whole life to defend the castle and the royal family, then he was the hero who sealed the darkness and now? Now he was back to just Link.. another royal guard to a, sometimes, royal pain in the ass.

"Lost your place?" the warrior asked. "What does that even mean?"

"Like.. well.. Like I lost my purpose," Link replied. "I'm not needed as a hero any longer, I'm just another royal guard." He downed another shot and still he felt depressed, this talk had really brought his spirits down. He was about to ask for another shot, when Revali placed his feathered hand? Wing? He wasn't sure but it was definitely over his glass.

"No, no more alcohol," He said.

"I only had six," Link complained.

"Actually you've had ten," the bartender, replied.

"Ten," Revali repeated, to Link in his disbelief. The rito held up eight fingers then and asked, "How many feathers am I holding up?"

"Eight," Link said waving at the warrior, half-heartedly.

"Yep, he's drunk," Revali said. "I'm actually surprised you surpassed your limit, if I am being honest." Link nodded but he was very slowly nodding off, he just wanted to sleep. "I'll take him from here, he looks like he'll just sleep at the bar if I leave him." Link felt a twinge of panic that didn't last, he knew that he shouldn't allow Revali to take him anywhere but he was not in any condition to resist. He managed a groaned no, as Revali pulled his arm around the back of the warrior's neck and walked him out of the inn.

"I have a room there," Link groused.

"I'm not leaving you alone in an open room, while you are passed out," Revali complained. It was a long upward trudge for Link, he had no idea where Revali was taking him. Once Revali stopped, Link didn't complain as he was deposited into a pillow nest bed and he quickly fell asleep.

Birdsong, it was bright, vibrant and so close to him. It was a beautiful lilting melody but as he opened his eyes it stopped, he was so disappointed that he frowned as he sat up in the pillow nest. He looked around trying to figure out why the song stopped but couldn't discern the source.

"Sleep well, hero?" Revali's voice, he groaned inwardly. He then froze and groaned this time audibly, as he remembered precisely what had happened last night. Looking over to where Revali's voice had come from, he saw the other male wasn't looking at him and instead was looking out to the horizon. The song started again but this time Link realized it was Revali's song, why was he singing toward the horizon? The sky was getting lighter and soon it peeked out at them, dousing the world in it's brilliant light. Link was captivated by not only the sun but Revali's song to it, it was as though he were greeting the day itself and he wasn't alone.

Link briefly wondered if the Rito did this every morning, he wondered why they did it. Questions arose in his mind but he wasn't about to interrupt the chorus and cries of the Rito people to find out. It just didn't feel right to bother Revali at this moment, despite having been woken by the lovely song in the first place. Link couldn't help but watch as the sun illuminated the feathers on Revali's form, while casting the rest of him in shadow. It made the navy feathers appear even darker in the shadow, while almost reflecting the sun on the others. If he didn't know any better, he would think the Rito had descended from the very skies themselves.

This time when the song did come to it's actual end, Revali turned and walked toward Link. He nearly backpedaled away in response, instead he managed to remain still despite the ominous feeling. The rito warrior stopped in front of him, framed by the light of the sun and looking more like a god-like figure than a rito. He half expected the other to call him a mortal or something.

"Do you have something to say?" the rito asked, sounding annoyed. "Or do you plan to stare all day?" Link looked away rubbing the back of his neck, this was awkward being struck wordless in front of Revali. He gasped in a bit of surprise, when the other male suddenly hopped into the pillow nest beside him and pulled him close. Link's hand landed on the other male's feathered chest, his fingers sinking into the soft down beneath. His heart was pounding hard and fast in his chest, but he wasn't entirely sure why.

Why was he reacting like this? When had this actually become normal? Why wasn't he complaining? Link let out a breath and decided to just focus on relaxing, despite present company. Link soon noticed that the rito warrior's breathing had changed, did he fall asleep? Link lifted his head a bit to see that Revali had indeed fallen asleep, he sighed before getting comfortable and falling back to sleep himself.
