Chapter 3
Wintertime In the Unikingdom
The next morning, Shy walked through the streets of Frown Town as she made her return to the Unikingdom. Shy couldn't help but think back to what Master Death told her yesterday. Despite the fact that he told her that she should ruin everyone's day, Shy didn't think that she could do it.
After a while of walking to the Unikingdom, Shy suddenly felt a shiver. She looked around to notice that it was snowing around the Unikingdom. Frown Town had snow as well, but Shy always stayed inside for snow days. It wasn't long before Shy heard Kittycorn's voice in the distance.
"Shy! Over here!"
"Oh! Hi, Kittycorn!" Shy walked over to her friend and was caught by surprise when Kittycorn suddenly gave her a hug.
"It's good to see you again!" Kittycorn smiled before she let go of her friend.
"It's good to see you too, Kittycorn. By the way, what are you wearing?" Shy asked as she noticed that Kittycorn was wearing a parka that was keeping her warm.
"Oh, I'm just wearing this so that I can get ready for the snow day today! Would you like to join me?"
At first Shy felt hesitant since she had never played in the snow before. Nobody in Frown Town really enjoyed snow days, so she wasn't so she what she would think of it.
"I don't really know about this, Kittycorn." Shy said with uncertainty.
"Come on. It's going to be really fun! Please?" Kittycorn begged.
After a few moments of consideration, Shy replied, "Alright! I'll come with you!"
"Yay!" Kittycorn cheered as she led Shy through the kingdom.
The two friends walked together through the snow. While Kittycorn was having a fun time, Shy was lost in thought. Despite all the times that she visited the Unikingdom, Shy felt that she couldn't do anything right about being a doom lord. She always felt like such a disappointment to Master Death. After a few moments of walking, Shy noticed that Kittycorn had her back turned to her. This gave Shy an idea. Shy wasn't going to like it, but this could be her one chance to prove herself as a doom lord.
Reluctantly, Shy picked up a snowball before she muttered under her breath, "I'm really sorry about this, Kittycorn."
With that, Shy through the snowball right at Kittycorn. Surprised by the impact of the snowball, Kittycorn turned to face her friend. Shy looked down in sadness as she expected Kittycorn to get angry and yell at her. Instead, Kittycorn said something that Shy didn't expect.
"Shy, you never told me that you loved snowball fights!"
"Huh?" Shy looked at her friend in confusion.
"If you wanted to have a snowball fight with me, all you had to do was ask!" Kittycorn explained before she rolled up her snowball and through it at Shy.
The moment the snowball hit Shy, she couldn't help but smile. She gathered as many snowballs as she could before she and Kittycorn threw snowballs at one another. After a couple of moments, the two friends were covered in snow. They both started to laugh from all the fun they had.
"Wow! That was really fun!" Shy exclaimed.
"It sure was! I always go outside for a snow day when I get the chance." Kittycorn explained. "Back when Mom and Dad were kids, they had snow days with their friends all the time."
"It must have been nice." Shy replied. "So, do you spend snow day with your friends too?"
Suddenly, Kittycorn stayed silent as she shyly looked away. "To be honest, I never really had any friends before I met you."
Shy couldn't believe what she was hearing. Knowing how happy and social Kittycorn was, Shy would have assumed that Kittycorn would have hundreds of friends by now.
"I honestly know how you feel, Kittycorn. I don't really have any friends in Frown Town either." Shy admitted.
Surprised by what she heard, Kittycorn walked up to Shy before placing a paw around her back.
"Hey, at least we have each other." Kittycorn said with a smile.
Shy smiled back as she nodded in agreement. Despite Kittycorn's paw around her, Shy couldn't help but shiver.
"Hey, are you starting to feel cold too, Kittycorn?"
Kittycorn nodded. "Yeah. Let's go in the castle to get warmed up." she suggested.
It was at that moment, when Shy followed her friend through the snow before they eventually reached the castle. Once they walked in, Kittycorn hanged up her parka before turning to face Shy.
"You must be hungry from your trip all the way here. Would you like me to bake you something?"
"You know how to bake?" Shy asked, surprised.
"Yep! At first, I wasn't really that great at making cupcakes, but I got better at it. I even managed to bake other sweets as well. Let's go to the kitchen so we can bake something together."
With a nod of agreement, Shy followed Kittycorn into the kitchen where they agreed to bake a cake. They soon noticed that they may have gone a little overboard with baking the cake since it was bigger than they thought it was going to be. They merely shrugged it off before they decided to put the cake in the oven. Kittycorn turned on the oven when Shy started to get a little worried.
"Uh, Kittycorn? Are you sure it's a good idea to set the temperature this high?" Shy asked, concerned.
"Not really. This is actually my first time baking a cake."
"Wait, what?"
Before Shy could say anything else, the heat of the oven caused the cake to explode, not only getting baking dough all over Kittycorn and Shy, but also messing up the entire kitchen.
"Oops! Well, that could have gone better." Kittycorn realized.
"What is going on in here?"
Kittycorn and Shy turned as they noticed Richard, who was shocked by the mess they caused in the kitchen.
"Oh. Hi, Richard. This isn't what it looks like." Kittycorn gave a nervous laugh.
"Princess Kittycorn, I'm disappointed in you. What do you think your mother would think when she finds out that you made a mess of the kitchen?"
As if on cue, everyone heard Unikitty and Puppycorn walk in as Unikitty said, "Richard? Is everything alright?"
Kittycorn started to feel nervous as her adoptive parents entered the room. She knew that she was in trouble now.
"Queen Unikitty and King Puppycorn, it seems that Kittycorn and her friend just messed up the kitchen." Richard explained.
"But it was an accident. We didn't mean to do it!" Shy defended.
"I don't want to hear any excuses, Shy." Richard said before he turned to Unikitty and Puppycorn. "I am really sorry about this. I will make sure to send Kittycorn to her room."
"Why?" Puppycorn asked, much to Richard's confusion.
"Kittycorn and Shy were just baking. Were you really going to ruin their fun?" Unikitty asked.
"Not cool, Rick!" Puppycorn agreed.
It was at that moment when Richard rolled his eyes in annoyance before he gave a defeated sigh. "I'm getting too old for this." Richard complained, fed up with Kittycorn and Shy's shenanigans.
As Richard left, Shy turned from Kittycorn, back to the Unikingdom's rulers.
"So, neither of you are mad about this?" Shy asked with uncertainty.
"Why would we be mad? You were just spending time with Kittycorn. Besides, we can easily clean up the kitchen." Unikitty explained.
"It's clear that Kittycorn likes you, and Unikitty and I think that you are a great friend for her, Shy." said Puppycorn.
At first, Shy didn't know what to say. She couldn't help but think that Kittycorn's adoptive parents were really nice.
"Thank you, your majesties." Shy bowed in respect.
"There's no need to bow, Shy. Why don't we help you and Kittycorn with whatever it is you are baking?" Unikitty suggested.
Kittycorn and Shy liked that idea. After cleaning the kitchen, Unikitty and Puppycorn helped Kittycorn and Shy bake the cake. They all sat at a table where they each eat a slice of the cake. The cake that Shy tasted was more delicious than anything she ever had in Frown Town. As they ate the cake, Kittycorn and Shy smiled at one another. They felt that this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
