Chapter 3- It'll be alright, I guess
"I'm pregnant" Donna says.
Harvey impulsively embraces her, which is very unlike him. Mainly because they hadn't really embraced each other after the other time. A side hug perhaps once or twice but this was a full blown embrace. "You've no idea how happy I'm to hear this" Donna is shocked at this response. "Harvey, you know you're not the father right?" She questions while trying to stifle her laughter. "I know, silly. But I was so scared that you were dying or something that I'm just relieved that you're just pregnant and not dying" "Woah, whatever happened to caring makes you weak?" Donna banters. "You and I both know that with you, it's different" he flirts but then it hits him like train. If she is pregnant that means there is father involved. Which could further mean that perhaps she could leave him? "Speaking of fathers..." "The father is not in the picture Harvey. It was a one night stand from when I was in France with Stacy and Amelia" Harvey gave her a nod. "I'm scared Harvey. I don't know if I'll be able to raise the baby on my own. I mean I'm excited but so frightened at the same time." Donna didn't know how or why but for some reason she always felt comfortable pouring her heart out to Harvey. He made her feel safe. Harvey reached out for her hand and squeezed it. At this moment he didn't care about coming off as showing a soft side of him. Donna needed him, she was his best friend and he wasn't a monster. "I'm going to be there for you Donna, every step of the way. Also, if you need more leaves, feel sick or anything you let me know. I promise to not snap at you. You're not alone in this. I'm there for you. This baby will also be my family just like I consider you my family" Donna had tears in her eyes now. He could be so infuriating yet so kind at the same time. "Stupid hormones" she exclaimed and they both started laughing.
They were sitting together for some time when Harvey's phone started buzzing and it showed Jessica's name. "I've to go now, Donna or else Jessica will have me murdered and I want to be the youngest senior partner. Also, take the day" he winked at her and got up to leave. "Harvey, I will come. Just give me 20 minutes. I'm fine honestly, it was just exhaustion. It's common in the first trimester." "Donna please, take the day, consult your obgyn! I do not want to be the reason to cause you any sort of stress." "Harvey, I swear…" "Take the day, it's an order Donna" "Jesus Harvey, now you pull out the boss card?" "I'm serious Donna, take the day" and with that he headed outside her apartment.
She later consulted her doctor and decided to go for a check-up. Turns out everything was going just fine.
Later at night Harvey texted her asked her if she needed anything. This was a different side of Harvey that she was not used to. Sure he had been vulnerable in front of her. He had told her about his mother's affair and his brother's cancer. However, he had never really shown this ultra-caring side of his directed towards her. She knew he cared about her but he had never gone out of his way to show her. It made her wonder what he would be like had he been the father. But she quickly shut those thoughts. She did not have feelings for Harvey Specter. Was she infatuated with him during the DAs office, sure. Did she feel anything about him now? No ways.
She was five months pregnant now and was officially showing. Harvey had been a knight in shining armour over the past three months. He always made sure she left work at 6 (when earlier she used to leave at 8 or 9 pm). Every night before going to bed he texted her and asked her if she was alright or if she needed anything.
Once around two months back she had light bleeding at around 2 am and she got so freaked out that she called Harvey up and he took her to the hospital. It was then that she found out that slight bleeding occurred in the first trimester sometimes and that the baby was perfectly healthy. She was so overwhelmed because of the whole experience that she could not contain her tears. Harvey had held her during their entire car ride home while she sobbed and tears fell on his shirt. But he did not care a hoot, he just wanted to comfort her.
She was having a hard time in the office now that everyone knew she was pregnant. There had been some rumours initially that it was Harvey who had knocked her up. However, Louis had overheard one of the associates gossiping about this and said "if only you spent as much time as you spend gossiping, on your work you'd be of any value to the firm. As of now you're just a nameless associate whose fate is in my hands." That had shut him up and those baseless rumours. Donna had thanked Louis after that and they had gone to watch Broadway together.
In the meantime she also became friends with the new paralegal Rachel Zane who also seemed really nice and helpful. All in all it wasn't an easy ride but it could have been worse, had it not been for her work family.
