Almost as soon as Lexie had woken up the next morning, she had rushed down to sick bay to get cleared for work by McCoy. After the strange dream she had during the night, Lexie wanted nothing more than to bury herself in her work, to keep her from thinking about it. Needless to say that McCoy wasn't at all surprised to see her so early in the morning, "Take a seat and I'll give your eye a quick scan." The Doctor said with a smile as he walked off to fetch his Tricorder. Lexie didn't waste any time, she hurried over to a biobed and sat on it impatiently. This didn't go unnoticed by McCoy who chuckled when he saw how eager she was, "She's really starting to take after Scotty." The CMO muttered to himself as he wandered back over. He quickly scanned over Lexie's eye and simply nodded, "Everything is fine kid, you can return to work." "Thanks McCoy, see ya later." Before McCoy could even think about saying another word, Lexie was gone. "Yep, you can tell she has Scottish blood alright." He chuckled with his arms crossed, McCoy then turned his back on the door only to hear it open once again. "She's already on her way down to Engineering and yes, I've given her the all clear to work."

"How did you know it was me Leonard?" McCoy turned to see Scotty standing in the doorway, "I knew that you would come by to check that the kid actually came to get cleared, I know you too well Scotty." The Scotsman couldn't argue with that, he had a sneaky feeling that Lexie would try and return to work without visiting McCoy. "That's good then, how is she?" McCoy crossed his arms and glared at the CEO, "I've cleared her to work Scotty, so what do you bloody think?" Scotty should have seen that coming. "Sorry Leonard, I just wanted to make sure that's all." McCoy slowly uncrossed his arms and smiled softly at Scotty, "It's OK, I know you just want to make absolutely sure that Lexie's alright but I assure you she's completely fine." Scotty forced himself to smile, but that soon faded after hearing what McCoy had to say next. "But she'll be more OK when she knows about the 'dad' thing." Scotty knew he was going to bring that up sooner or later, "Would ya quit pestering me Doctor, I'll get round to it at some point." "Scotty it's been over two months! I warn you now, if you don't tell Lexie about it by the end of this month, then I will!" Scotty felt his heart beat slightly faster, it was true he had been putting off telling Lexie but he would much prefer to tell her himself, rather than McCoy do it. "Alright fine, I'll tell her at some point this month." McCoy continued to glare at him, "Promise?" "Aye, I promise Leonard." The conversation almost sounded like the one between a parent and a naughty child, which wasn't far from the truth. "Good, now off you go, some ones got to keep an eye on Lexie." Scotty smiled before he hurried out of the room.

When Scotty got down to Engineering he was greeted by Keenser, who was sitting on top of a water tank. "Have you not learnt your lesson yet lad?! Get down from there! Before you fall and break something!" With several grunts, Keenser made his way down from the water tank. He hurried over to Scotty and grunted some more, "Ya would think almost falling from the ceiling would have made you stop doing that." Once again Keenser just grunted, so Scotty just gave up, he knew he was wasting his time. "Anyway, have you seen Lexie?" His friend just pointed off into the distance, "There." Scotty rolled his eyes discreetly. "Thanks lad." Scotty patted Keenser on the shoulder on his way by as he headed off to find his young Engineer. It didn't take him long to find Lexie, since he just followed the sound of swearing which was being muttered angrily from somewhere. She was knelt in front of an open panel, her hands were full with wires of various different colours and between her teeth she held a screwdriver. "Could you stay fixed for more than a bloody day, you dam stupid computer." Scotty tried not to laugh at how annoyed Lexie was getting at a machine, she almost sounded like him. "Hey there lass." Almost instantly Lexie span round, clutching a wrench tightly in her hand, Scotty raised his hands up and took a step back. "Woo lass, it's me!"

There was a loud clang as the wrench Lexie had been holding hit the floor, "Bloody hell Scotty! Don't scare me like that, I almost threw that at you!" "Sorry lass, I didn't mean to." Scotty said as he watched Lexie turn back to face her work. "Why's the lass so jumpy?" He thought, "Is everything alright Lex?" "Yeah everything is fine Scotty, sorry about almost hitting you, I didn't sleep well last night." That statement only grew Scotty's already existing concerns. "Did you have a nightmare?" Lexie sighed quietly, she didn't want to tell him the truth not just yet anyway, she herself was still trying to compute what it actually meant. "No I just couldn't sleep that's all." Scotty wasn't fully convinced, but he wasn't going to force Lexie to tell him the truth. "Aye, I know that feeling. So what's up with the computer?" "The screen kept on flickering and it was making an awful noise." As Lexie answered she turned round to face the Scotsman, but behind him she could see Kyle, grinning at her. Once again her heart felt like it was going to stop, Scotty placed a hand on her shoulder. "Lexie, you OK? You look like you've seen a ghost." Lexie shook her head gently with her eyes closed, when she opened them again, Kyle was gone. "Yeah, I'm OK… Umm, you wouldn't mind if I take the rest of the shift off would you Scotty. I think I need to try and get some sleep." Scotty just nodded and Lexie quickly hurried off.

Lexie was making her way back to her quarters, constantly looking over her shoulder. "It's just your mind playing tricks on you, he's not really here, he can't be here." Those were the words she kept on muttering to herself, oh she wished what she was saying was true. Just then Lexie heard someone call out her name, she turned to see Kirk waving at her from the end of the hall. "Oh hi Kirk." She muttered, instantly Kirk could tell something wasn't right. "Everything alright? Ain't you meant to be on shift?" "I was, but Scotty let me have the rest of it off, I didn't sleep well last night." Just like Scotty, Kirk was even more concerned about her now. He knew all about the horrific nightmares she suffers from, "Not a nightmare I hope." Lexie shook her head quickly. "No, nothing like that." "That's good, well I'll let you get off. Hope you sleep well." Kirk replied as he walked away, waving over his shoulder. Lexie did the same, she knew lying wasn't right but if she told them what really kept her awake last night, they would all think she was crazy. It wasn't long before she made it back to her quarters and for once she was glad that Delta wasn't around, this meant she could be alone to try and figure out what the hell was going on. Lexie began to pace the length of her room, "He can't be here, he just can't. I mean… He's dead… Right?" She muttered to herself. Having to face her monstrous uncle once was enough, she really didn't want to do it again. But she watched as his ship was destroyed, there was no way he would have lived after that. After a good amount of time pacing, Lexie sat herself down on her bed.

"Please let this be my mind playing tricks on me, I don't want to live through another nightmare and I don't want to drag the guys along for the ride." Lexie buried her head in her hands, tears dripped into them, she really didn't want to go through that for a third time. Just then her scar began to burn, she placed a hand over it. "You're enough of a dam reminder of him, so I don't need him haunting me for the rest of my bloody life." But this time around it seemed her scar wasn't going to listen, since it just continued to burn. She really just wanted to forget about her uncle completely, having to deal with him reappearing last year was bad enough. It was then when her communicator bleeped, Lexie was very tempted to just ignore it but she knew the amount of trouble she would be in and the panic it would cause would be huge. So she reached into her pocket and pulled it out, flicking it open as she raised it up. "Smith here." "Hey lass, I didn't wake you did I?" It was Scotty who had called, not surprising. "No you didn't Scotty, I haven't had the chance to even lay down yet. What can I do for you?" She replied, trying not to snivel. "I was wondering if you would mind just popping down to my office, that is of course if you're up to it." "Sure thing Scotty, I'll be right down." Lexie really didn't want to go, but she knew if she didn't then Scotty would just come to her. So, wiping her eyes with the tartan handkerchief she always carried with her Lexie left her quarters.

It didn't take Lexie long to get to Scotty's office, well it took her a little longer than normal, mainly since she was walking extremely slowly. She knocked on the door when she did finally arrive, something she had never done before. "Come." A voice called from inside, Lexie entered to see Scotty sitting at his desk busy tapping away on a PADD, that was until he looked up. "Thanks for coming lass." "No problem Scotty, what can I do for you?" Scotty was about to answer when he noticed her eyes, mainly the one which wasn't bruised since it was slightly red. "You've been crying, haven't you?" "No, what makes you say that?" Lexie was kinda surprised that he had noticed, her eyes couldn't be that sore. She only cried a little, "I can tell, I've seen you cry enough to know by now." Lexie knew he was right, Scotty had seen her cry more times than she could count. Dam, he saw her cry the first night she was on the Enterprise. "Nothing gets past you, yes I've been crying." Scotty got up from his desk and led Lexie over to the couch which sat in the corner of the room, "What's wrong lass? You've been acting differently recently." Lexie sighed, she could feel tears forming in her eyes once again, but she just blinked them away. "I've been… seeing things recently." "What type of things?" Scotty could tell almost instantly that whatever it was, Lexie didn't wish to admit it. "I've been seeing Kyle… I've been seeing my uncle." Scotty just blinked, "What?" "A few days after new year I started seeing him about the ship, only for split seconds but he was still there. Then last night he was in my dreams." Scotty shuffled closer to her and placed his arm around her shoulders. "Why didn't you tell me that your mind was doing this lass?"

"Because I don't think it's my mind Scotty." That statement confused the Scotsman, "What else could it be?" Lexie turned to face him, tears clumping under her eyes. "He's here Scotty, I just know it." Scotty smiled faintly, "Lexie, Kyle's dead. It's not possible for him to be here, even if he was still alive he wouldn't be able to get on the Enterprise. Believe me, if he was here there would be a line of people waiting to kill him, me being one of them." He went to pull her in for a hug, but Lexie moved away from him. "How do you know he's gone? No one bothered to check! He's a monster who will keep coming back to torture me!" Scotty sighed, "The Enterprise blew his ship to bits, no one could survived that. No one… Kyle's gone Lexie, this is just your subconscious mind messing with your head." Once again Scotty tried to pull her in for a hug, but Lexie simply stood up. "You think I'm crazy or even paranoid, well I'm not. I know what I saw and it wasn't a mind trick! Why don't you believe me?!" Scotty sighed, but he didn't get a chance to say anything since Lexie spoke first. "I thought you of all people would believe me, but I guess not. You just think because you can't see him means he ain't here, me of all people should be able to tell when he's near. I lived with him for ten god dam years after all… You know what, forget I ever said anything. See you." Lexie ran out of the room, leaving Scotty to take in what she just said and to beat himself up for upsetting her.

Her vision slightly blurred by tears, Lexie ran all the way back to her quarters. When inside she went straight to the bed, burying her face in her pillow and began to cry. She couldn't believe that the one person she hoped would believe her, didn't. Just then she heard her door open and a voice call out her name, "Lex, what's wrong?" She turned round to see Chekov standing there, with Delta sat on his shoulder. "What are you doing here Pavel?" Lexie asked as she blinked away even more tears, "Delta said he had something to show me, are you OK?" "I'm fine, whatever Delta wanted to show you can wait." The way Lexie was speaking made Chekov feel slightly nervous, she sounded so angry but so upset. "Lexie, what's happened?" Delta asked, he had never seen her like this.

"Why does it matter?! You'd probably just call me paranoid, I want to be left alone." Delta flew over and landed next to her, "Lex… Please, tell me what's wrong. I hate seeing you upset." "I said I want to be left alone! Don't you understand that you stupid AI!" Lexie yelled, Delta flew quickly back over to Chekov and buried his head in the Navigators chest. Almost instantly Lexie realised what she had done, hating herself for doing it. "I'm sorry Delta I…" Chekov went to speak, "Please Pavel, just go. Before I say something I will really regret." Chekov didn't really want to leave, but he knew it was for the best. So he slipped back out of the doors, holding Delta in his arms while Lexie once again buried her head in her pillow. It didn't take long for Lexie's throat to become sore and for the pillow to become drenched in tears, but Lexie didn't stop crying even when no more tears came out.
