"So you know what to do?" Alastor asked while straightening my collar.

"Go to the clock tower, find a battle, and 'make them dance', is that what you said?" I replied, making sure I had everything correct.

It'd only been a few days since I'd died and Alastor had taught me so much. And I made a promise, and I at least, don't break promises.

"That's correct." Alastor replied, "And you don't have to kill anyone if you don't want to."

I nodded, and ran off down the street to make a portal. I'd made sure to practise this many times, and I had an idea for something really fun. I formed the portal and walked through, I was still a bit shaky, especially after the trick Alastor pulled several days ago, but I kept my composure and didn't fall off.

As I looked around I felt a weird presence at the back of my head, I spun around trying to catch anything behind me, but there was nothing, and the presence had just moved to the other side. I did this a few more times, before finally coming to the conclusion that this was simply in my head.

Right on que though, several explosions starting going off in the distance, this must be the fighting Alastor told me about. I took a few steps back and prepared myself for a jump. I'd practised this trick a couple times, but they were only small falls, how well would this work?

I ran forward and did a small backflip in the air as I started to fall. I formed a portal right on the ground in front of me. I felt scared that I was going to hit the floor, but I forced myself to keep my eyes open. As I passed through the portal I was flung out of the ground a few block away, just like I'd wanted. I repeated this several times until I was on top of a partially destroyed building and could see the battle right in front of me.

Two people were absolutely duking it out, and explosions were everywhere. One of them was in a black suit and kept running around with akimbo pistols, while the other on what wearing a red crop top and ripped jeans and was lobbing a seemingly infinite amount of bombs. I performed the spell to make me invisible and went to begin my work.

I decided to start with the one throwing bombs, because this probably had the lowest chance of me being caught in the crossfire. I snuck up behind her and waited for her to hide behind something. Once she did I snuck closer, until I was almost breathing on her, I had no idea how she didn't realise I was there but oh well. I then pulled one of the grenades off her belt and pulled the pin while dropping it. I sprinted for the hills and waited for the boom.

After a few seconds she realised what was up and jumped out of her cover, right into the view of the other guy. This was actually pretty funny, which was something I didn't expect to find funny. In a flurry of fury the bomb girl wildly tossed a grenade towards the gun guy, which was obviously going to miss, but I wouldn't let it. I formed a small portal in the trajectory of the grenade and made it come out by the feet of the gun guy.

I found this even more hilarious as the gun guy scrambled away in confusion, having seen the grenade teleport at his feet. I performed this trick again, this time making the grenade land at the bomb girl's feet. I had to physical cover my mouth to stop myself from laughing. But now it was time to personally mess with the gun guy.

As I snuck over towards him the bomb girl moved between us. I jumped around like a madman trying to dodge the shots, while continuing to move towards him. Suddenly I heard a bang, and my shoulder erupted in pain. I was thrown back a small amount, but the pain was immense. Once again, I could feel my eyes burning red as I was filled with anger.

Without thinking, or knowing how, I teleported behind the gun guy and kicked his knee in. As he crumbled to the side I grabbed him by the neck, and with a sudden burst of strength, snapped it with a disgusting crunch. The grenade girl saw this and stopped, probably not knowing what to do, and I paused for a moment, before turning around and walking back towards the city, the invisibility spell flickering on and off, causing me to become visible for flickers of time.

As I walked away my shoulder began to glow yellow, and after a few seconds the bullet wound had completely healed, but the pain still remained and now it was almost unbearable. I had to sit in a nearby bench just to keep conscious. As I looked around I saw a TV store, which was playing something that looked like the news.

Though I couldn't hear it, the videos and pictures they were showing made it obvious it was about these battles. I found it a bit amusing how nonchalant they were about this, like this was a common thing, then again, Alastor did say these fights happened every year. Then they started showing videos from that altercation. The first thing that confused me was how they got the videos, but my attention was quickly brought away by the concern shown by the newscasters.

The video showed the gun guy suddenly crumbling, and just as their neck was snapped, I could be seen for a split second. Then as I walked away in the video my eyes and shoulder were glowing during the bits of visibility. Weirdly as I watched it, I didn't feel disgust at myself, maybe this place was getting to me.

I formed a portal with the intent to be back in Alastor's apartment, but for some reason as I walked through it I found myself in front of a bar. I formed another one but this time I was next to the clock tower again, then again and found myself on a balcony overlooking the city. This place looked like it was expensive, and as I looked in I could see a woman in a red suit with a pale face and red cheeks pacing around the room. Not wanting to be a perv I created another portal, and finally I found myself right in front of the apartment. With a sudden bout of exhaustion.

"Have fun?" Alastor asked as I fell through the door, exhausted, he was sitting at the table sipping tea while reading a newspaper.

"Yeah." I replied, a small smile going across my face. I weirdly did find that fun, but I was too exhausted to say much.

"I was watching, and it was definitely enjoyable for me." Alastor replied, standing up, "The fear that was in the man's face as you snapped their neck was quite amusing."

"Glad to be of help." I mumbled, falling into my bed.

"I'll have to teach you more advanced stuff for next year." Alastor exclaimed, closing my door.

I just mumbled an acknowledgment as I closed my eyes. The exhaustion was so sudden I don't even know whether it was from the wound or from the amount of portals I made. Either way today was definitely an experience. But it haunted me throughout the night, maybe this was a mistake, maybe I should be more careful, maybe I shouldn't stick with this guy.
