Chapter Two

One Confusing Case

Bishop and Torres were walking down the street, looking for any sign of Lewis Thompson or Robin Smith while also casually chatting to themselves.

"So according to this file McGee just sent me, it seems like both Thompson and Smith have rep-sheets. They have both been arrested for multiple physical assaults, armed robberies and multiple DUI's." explained Bishop before noticing that Nick seemed distracted, "Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah, just these Anti-Vax groups really get under my skin," answered Torres in an irritated tone of voice, "I mean why the Hell would you not want to keep your child safe? It's certainly better than them dying a slow and painful death."

"I'll never understand them either." lamented Bishop.

The two suddenly stopped as a young man in his thirties came out of the nearby shop, he was tall, had dark, messy hair and was wearing a navy-blue hoodie and matching coloured pants. Bishop quickly brought up a photo of the two men they were looking for, and saw that this was Lewis Thompson.

"Lewis Thompson!" called out the blonde Agent, causing the man to turn in her direction.

"Who wants to know?" asked Lewis.

"NCIS," declared Torres as he and Bishop flashed their badges, "We just need to ask you a few questions."

Lewis stared at the two agents for several moments, like a deer in the headlights. The man then ran off in the opposite direction.

"Dannit!" cursed Ellie as she and Nick gave chase, "Why do they always run?"

Lewis continued to run through the street, shoving people out of the way, he then ran into an alleyway and began to climb a wired fence.

"STOP!" yelled the blonde Agent as she charged towards the fence.

The young man leapt over the fence and started running, but was suddenly tackled to the ground by Torres who rolled Lewis on to his front and handcuffed him. "Lewis Thompson, you are under arrest for the murder of Navy Lieutenant Jamie Richardson," he stated as he hauled the man to his feet and frogmarched him back the way he had come, "You have the right to remain silent, though anything you do say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

Bishop grinned as Nick approached and finished reading Lewis his rights. Now that she wasn't chasing him, Bishop noticed that Lewis was pale, clammy and had swollen cheeks. "You feeling okay there?" she asked in concern.

"None of your business lady!" snapped Lewis before coughing slightly.

Gibbs and McGee had come across Robin and were now chasing him through a parking lot. "NCIS! Stay where you are!" ordered Gibbs.

Robin was a short, young man with messy blonde hair. He was wearing a green sweater and tan coloured pants with white and red sneakers.

The two Agents chased their suspect into an underground parking lot, but they soon lost him.

"Let's split up," suggested Gibbs, "I think our suspect is still here."

Tim nodded in agreement and the two went in different directions.

McGee wandered through the large parking lot, his gun raised. McGee then cried out in pain as a bullet nicked his shoulder.

"Shots fired!" cried Tim in alarm as he dove behind a car, just as more bullets came whizzing towards him, shattering the car windows.

McGee slowly crawled around the car, ducking as bullets narrowly avoided his head, he then slowly crawled towards his gun, grabbed it and fired a couple of warning shots.

"NCIS! Surrender yourself and nobody will get hurt!" cried McGee as he staggered to his feet and hid behind a pillar, doing his best to ignore the pain in his shoulder.

There was suddenly an angry yell, causing McGee to come out of his hiding place, Robin charged at him brandishing a pocket knife. McGee attempted to dodge, but Robin managed to nick him in the other shoulder causing Tim to drop his gun and yell out in pain. Smith then punched McGee in the face, sending the agent to the floor.

McGee looked up and his eyes widened as Robin aimed a gun at his face. Robin's ears suddenly pricked up as he heard the cocking of a gun from behind. "Drop it, turn around, and put your hands up." hissed a gruff voice.

Robin dropped his gun and slowly turned around while raising his hands. Gibbs was aiming his gun at the man, the senior agent quickly ran over, put his gun away and handcuffed Robin, reading him his rights, he then helped McGee to his feet. "You okay Tim?" he asked in concern.

"I think I'll live." groaned McGee.

Over at the MCRT truck, Bishop and Torres had just put Lewis into the back of the truck when Gibbs arrived, frogmarching Robin Smith, McGee was just behind them. Ellie noticed the small nicks on McGee's shoulder and the bloody nose he was now sporting.

"Ohhh, I'll take it Robin didn't surrender quietly." remarked Bishop.

"Nope." replied McGee bluntly.

"By the way Gibbs, we got Lewis Thompson, but he may be ill with the same thing this guy's got." informed Torres as he noticed that Smith looked as ill as his friend.

"Ahhh jeez!" exclaimed Gibbs in an irritated tone, "Right, when we get back Palmer will have to test them and see what they've got."

A bit later, the team were sitting in the bullpen, Jimmy had seen to McGee's injuries and was currently testing their two suspects.

"Anything new?" asked a slightly impatient Gibbs as he sat down at his desk while holding a plastic coffee cup.

"Nothing yet boss," answered McGee who currently had a large plaster on his nose, "Jimmy and Kasie are still running tests to determine what our killers have got."

"And we've got the results now," declared Kasie as she and Palmer entered the bullpen, "Both Thompson and Smith have contracted a rather aggressive strain of the mumps virus."

"Mumps!" cried Gibbs in shock, "McGee contact the CID, get them to track down anybody who may have been in contact with these two."

"On it boss." replied McGee as he picked up his phone.

Not long after, Jennifer was brought back into the conference room. Gibbs and Bishop informed her about the capture of her husband's killers.

"So those two have the mumps?" asked Jennifer in shock, "Well it's not that bad, mumps is harmless, all the diseases are harmless."

"These diseases aren't harmless Mrs Richardson," replied Bishop in concern, "Childhood diseases in particular can cause blindness, deafness, brain damage and even death. The effects of mumps may be more rare than those of measles, but it's still not worth the risk."

"But the MMR jag causes autism, Andrew Wakefield proved it. My children are safe because we didn't vaccinate them." stated Jennifer, "Do any of you have children?"

"I had a daughter," answered Gibbs firmly, "But I would never have put her in danger like that. Andrew Wakefield was found to be a fraud, none of his findings were true and his lies led to an increase in cases of measles and mumps."

"You're just trying to scare me!" barked Jennifer before getting up and storming over to the door, "My kids will be fine!"

She then opened the door, stormed out and slammed it shut.

"Well that could have gone better." remarked Ellie.

"Ya think Bishop." snarked Gibbs.

Thompson and Smith had both been put into quarantine and could not be questioned for the time being. McGee got a warrant and was given access to their phones.

"Find anything useful McGee?" asked Gibbs as he entered the bullpen.

"I think I have boss," declared McGee proudly, "Searched through Lewis Thompson and Robin Smith's texts and finally discovered who the leader of Fight Back Against the Vax is."

Tim then clicked the plasma screen remote, an image of a tall, middle-aged man in his forties with short brown hair appeared along with relative information. "Meet Thomas Jackson, forty-eight, divorced, had one child who died in 2007. Was dishonourably discharged from the Navy after physically assaulting a Navy Lieutenant and fell off the grid after he attempted to rape the wife of the Navy Lieutenant."

"Sounds like a right charmer." snarked Torres sarcastically.

"Funny, that name sounds familiar, but I can't remember where I've heard it from." stated McGee as he scratched his chin thoughtfully.

"Gibbs!" called out Jimmy in slight alarm as he came dashing into the room.

"What is it Palmer?" asked Gibbs.

"Just got off the phone with Carol Wilson," informed the Medical Examiner, "It seems that a mumps outbreak has already started in Washington."

(AN) And that was Chapter Two of Outbreak, I hope you all enjoyed.

Again, any Anti-Vax comments will be deleted.
