CH 3. Laughing at the face of death

"You're a VAMPIRE", Caroline answered back smirking as she watched the grin completely dropping off his face and being replaced by a look of shock and disbelief.

Damon couldn't believe what he had just heard. Usually, no one would guess that he was a vampire right away, they would typically say that he was some kind of monster, a demon and some have even dubbed him as the Devil himself. But vampires were never their first guess, the exceptions being those who already knew about the existence of the supernatural world, but they were usually hunters or other supernatural like himself. The smirk on her face undoubtedly implied that she hadn't just guessed it, she knew what she talking about. Now the question was that why would a 17-year-old dumb high school cheerleader even know about the supernatural world in the first place.

As Damon went on with his thinking. Caroline couldn't help but be impressed with herself to have caught him off guard. He had certainly stereotyped her as the blonde bimbo. Oh, how he couldn't have been more mistaken.

"How do you even know that?" interrogated Damon as he glared into her soul.

"I just guessed", Caroline answered with a very believable shrug. She couldn't let him know that she knew more than she let on.

"DON'T LIE", Damon yelled. He had a feeling that she knew a lot more than she is willing to let on. He could feel it in his gut. And if he has learned one thing from all his immortal life is to never doubt his gut feeling cause it was right most of the time. And it was that damn smirk along with the surety in her voice as she declared You're a VAMPIRE confirmed his suspicion.

"I am not lying", Caroline exclaimed. Okay so she was lying but he didn't have to know that.

"Enough of this nonsense", Damon shouted running out of patience.

Dilating his pupils he compelled her, "Tell me the truth, how do you know about Vampires?".

Caroline just stares at his face for a few seconds and then bursts out laughing.

Damon just glared at her dumbfounded. Is she actually laughing at him? Why is she even laughing? What's so funny? And most importantly, why didn't the compulsion work? Is she on vervain? No that's not it, he had drunk her blood the previous night (Oh how sweet her blood tasted) and there was definitely no sign of vervain in it.

"Yeah, dude you can't compel me", Caroline revealed patting his shoulder still cackling up a little bit at his stupefied expression.

"How on earth can you not be compelled? You certainly don't have vervain on you neither did you drink any vervain cause if you would have I would have known about it last night", Damon questioned with the suspicion clearly apparent on his features.

"I just can't", Caroline replied back shrugging her shoulders. There is no way that she was going to reveal all her cards just yet.

"Enough of these games Caroline, tell me what you know or I will kill you", Damon yelled annoyed by her nonchalant attitude.

"But you won't", Caroline retorted with a mocking tone and a knowing smirk on her face.

"And why is that blondie?", asked Damon, though he was slightly taken aback by her tone. She was not even a little bit intimidated by his threat. She even dared to smirk at him. Where was the girl who was trembling in his arms? It's like she completely changed in a matter of seconds.

"Well if you wanted me dead, I wouldn't be alive right now. You would have killed me last night, But you didn't", shrugged Caroline. Damon was about to retort but she cut him off.

"Even if I was just a feed, you would have drained me the night we met or should I say the night we had first made eye contact in the grill, which by the way was 5 days ago. Think about it I was drunk, sad, discouraged, looking to ease my heartbreak, it would have been so easy, even compeltion wouldn't have been needed", Caroline explained, her smirk widening when she realised that she hit the on nail, looking at his dumbfounded expression.

Feeling a little proud of herself for shocking him into silence she continued her estimation, "But here I am 5 days later still alive. This also means that you have been here for 5 days now. Which means that you're not just passing through. It made me think, why would a vampire such as yourself, would want to stay in the most boring town on earth? ...Unless he is on a MISSION."

Damon was astonished. Everything she has asserted till now has been accurate. Apparently, he has underestimated the blonde beauty in front of him. She is smart, maybe too smart for her own good.

Not wanting her to get the best of him, Damon resorted, "That's some assessment you got there blondie, but that still doesn't explain why I won't kill you".

"I was getting to that, see the reason you won't kill me, not yet at least, is because you need me for whatever mission you are here for." Caroline declared

"And why would you think that, little birdie?" Damon asked still not wanting her to get the best of him. And also because he was slightly curious about what she will say because she has been precise about everything she has assessed so far.

"You see, I know that you are a vampire that means you have super hearing, which also means that you hear the whole conversation between me and Bonnie at the grill. I remember that she had clearly mentioned that I was the sheriff's daughter. And to prove my point right you said my name after trying to compel me and I definitely remember never telling it to you in the first place." Caroline surmised.

"What are you...

Before Damon could complete his question, she interrupts him.

"See you might look like a stupid, impulsive jackass but I don't think you are that dumb to kill the sheriff's daughter when you are here to stay, at least not when the same sheriff is in the anti-vampire council. And yes, I know all about the stupid vampire killing council," Concluded Caroline slightly wincing at the fact that just called a psychotic vampire a stupid, impulsive jackass. 'Don't provoke the vampire, Caroline', she thought. Sometimes she was too blunt for her own good. But thankfully he seems to have missed what she had said or he chose to just ignore it. Whichever it was she was grateful.

Damon was speechless. She turned out to be the exact opposite of what he thought she was. He was amazed

"I am impressed blondie. You have exceeded all my expectations. Looks like I have found myself a beauty with brains" , Damon announced.

"Yeah, I'm sure your expectations ran as far as me being a dumb blonde cheerleader who be would an easy target. But sorry to disappoint you, I'm not." She scoffed. When will people stop stereotyping her? Sure she was blonde who just so happened to be a cheerleader but that was dumb. She has a 4.2 GPA for a reason.

"So what now?", voiced Damon curiously pulling Caroline out of her thoughts.

"I want to strike a DEAL," Caroline announced once again catching Damon off guard.

A/N: So that's was it.

How do you guys like this chapter???

A/N: So that was it

Do you think Caroline is OOC?

I am trying to develop her character just like post-vampire Caroline in the show. But clearly, she's not there yet.

After meeting the vampire and after finding the town's secrets. She had to wake up from her dream and realise that Mystic Falls is not as perfect as it seems. And there are greater things than petty high school rivalries. But of course, she has not gotten over it yet.

In the next two chapters, we will see what the deal is. What Caroline did after finding out about Vampires.

And most importantly why she can't be compelled.

I will also introduce some OC characters further into the story. They will play a major role in Caroline life.

Please do leave a review. Even if it is criticism. I would appreciate it as it will help me grow as a writer.

Until next time
