A/N: Okay, So I did something a little bit different in this story. Don't hate me. I threw something in here. Has anyone seen the show Nashville...? If not, there's a song on there that I am in love with. I thought it was perfect for this scene. It's called When The Right One Comes Along by Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio. PLEASE go look it up. When you get to that part...please do yourself a favor and listen to it while you read it. It will make the experience ten times better. I promise. Anywho. On to the show!

Chapter Three

They stayed at the River house for a few hours after what had happened with Elain. No one saw the middle sister for the rest of the night after "the incident", as Cassian was calling it. Gwyn had accepted a glass of wine from Mor, but didn't inhale it like the rest of them seemed to be doing. The only other person who seemed to be taking it easy on the alcohol was Azriel.

After noticing his third glance at the clock on the mantle above the fireplace, Gwyn nudged him with her shoulder. "We should get home. It's getting late, don't you think?"

Az smiled at her, knowing she was giving him an easy way out. He nodded and stood, making his way over to Rhys. He bent and spoke into the High Lord's ear so that he could actually hear Az over the raucous Mor and Feyre were making. She saw Rhys nod and give him a smile, wishing him good night.

Az looked over at her and nodded. She stood from her chair and made her way over to Nesta, the only actual sober one at the house. "Hey, Azriel and I are going to head back to the House. It's been a long day."

Nesta looked up at her and nodded. "Of course. It has been a big day for you. Between moving out of the library and getting into a fight with my sister. Then making googly eyes at Az all night."

Gwyn rolled her eyes. "I was not making googly eyes at him. Anyways, I'll see you at breakfast?"

Nesta chuckled. "Whatever you say, Gwyn. And maybe. If Cass isn't too drunk to fly us home, we'll be there. Otherwise, I'll come find you when we get back."

Gwyn nodded and headed to the doorway where Az was waiting for her. "Ready?"

Az nodded. "I let Rhys know we were headed out. He was the least inebriated out of the rest of them, besides Nesta."

Gwyn chuckled. "They're such a fun group to hang around. I'm really glad they've accepted me into their group. Well…all of them minus one, at least."

Az closed the front door behind them and walked further from the house to get enough clearance to take off. "I wouldn't worry too much about Elain. She's not around that much. Only for family dinners. She doesn't come out with us when we go anywhere, like to Rita's or Sevenda's. And when she is around, she mostly keeps to herself besides when she's talking with her sisters."

Az stopped and held out his arms to her, prompting her to step closer. He placed an arm around her waist before stooping to wrap his other arm under her knees and lift her fully into his arms. She giggled at the sensation of being swept off her feet and wrapped her arms around his neck. "I know that I shouldn't worry. I just don't want to cause trouble for you if I'm present. She really didn't seem to like me being there. All it did was cause tension."

Az spread his wings before shooting them up into the sky. He was silent for a couple of minutes as he got them airborne and in the direction of the House. "You're not the reason for the tension, Gwyn. It was because everything was left up in the air between us. We never resolved anything besides her giving me back that necklace without a word. If she thought there should have been something more between the two of us, than that's on her. She made no moves to suggest we were more than friends. I took that as she had moved on. So I did too."

Gwyn looked at him, really studied his face. "So, who is she? Do I know her?"

Az's body, minus his wings, froze. She could feel him lock up where he was holding her, his fingers holding her tighter to him. "Like I said a couple of months ago…I'm not ready to say quite yet."

She nodded slowly, biting her lip. He looked down at her, tracking the movement. "It's okay if you don't want to tell me, Az, but you should tell her at least. I'm sure she'll want to know. Who knows…maybe she likes you too and has been waiting for you to say something."

Az snorted, shaking his head. "I doubt it. Besides, I typically like it when women make the first move. I think it shows their character."

Gwyn was about to respond when she noticed the House looming towards them. Now was not the time to continue that conversation. She tucked that piece of information into the back of her mind to fully contemplate later as Az brought them down onto the balcony. He set her down gently and smiled at her. "I had an interesting evening. I should probably head to bed. I have an early mission tomorrow."

Gwyn nodded, biting her lip again. "How long will you be gone for this time?"

He shrugged, tucking his hands into his pockets. "Maybe a few days, could be a week. Just depends on what I find." She nodded, looking down at her feet, suddenly nervous. She blew out a breath. "Az, do you…do you have time to maybe sing that song tonight? Or do you need to head to bed right away? I won't keep you up."

Az smiled slowly at her, watching her fidget. "I suppose I have time for a song. Do we need any instruments?"

Gwyn looked up at that. "Do you play any?"

He nodded shyly. "A couple. The piano and the guitar. I taught myself how to play over the centuries."

Her eyes lit up until they practically glowed. "Ooh! Could you get your guitar? I'm assuming you have one."

He chuckled, nodding his head and rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah, I'll go grab it. Are we doing this out here?"

She nodded, already moving to pull two lounge chairs close to each other. "It'll sound much better out here in the open than it will in there. Plus, no one else is home so it's not like anyone will see or hear us out here."

He nodded, liking where she was going with that. "Very good point. I'll be right back."

She watched him head inside as she sat down on one of the chairs. The same chair she had been sitting in when he told her about the necklace. She smiled again at the memory, reaching up to hold onto the charm. When he returned a few minutes later, she was still sitting there smiling. His eyes flitted down to where she held the necklace, and she saw a small smile grace his lips as well before he moved to sit across from her.

He took a minute to make sure the guitar was in proper tune since it had been a little while since he'd played it. She was watching him as he looked back up at her. "Okay, what are we singing? And do I know it?"

She giggled and clasped her hands together tightly, leaning forward and bracing her elbows on her knees. "Um, do you know the song 'When The Right One Comes Along'?"

"Yeah, I know that one. That's a good choice."

His fingers moved to start strumming the chords. He picked it up right away, easing right into it. His shadows started swirling around them both, getting excited. He heard a noise coming from the other end of the balcony, but he ignored it.

She took a deep breath before opening her mouth and letting the lyrics flow out of her, completely losing herself in the lyrics and his eyes as they met and locked.

"There's no music, no confetti

Crowds don't cheer and bells don't ring

But you'll know it, I can guarantee

When the right one comes along"

She smiled as she watched him open his mouth and join her for the next verse, their voices twirling around each other, lining up perfectly. His deep timbre met her higher one and just flowed around each other like the darkness with the light.

"What you're thinking, what you're feelin,

You no longer have to guess

All those questions are finally put to rest

When the right one comes along."

She raised her voice higher, delighted when he did the same. He sang the next line with her before his voice drifted off, allowing hers to flourish.

Every single broken heart will lead you to the truth.

You think you know what you're lookin for

Til what you're lookin for finds you

In a cold world, it's a warm place

Where you know that you're supposed to be.

She smiled as his voice joined hers again, weaving in and out of hers. The smile reflected on his face was enough to set her heart racing.

A million moments full of sweet relief

When the right one comes along

Every single broken heart will lead you to the truth

You think you know what you're lookin for

Til what you're lookin for finds you.

His voice trailed off, allowing hers to once again fill the balcony. She didn't dare take her eyes off of him, wanting to soak up every moment of this amazing moment.

It's so easy, nothin' to it

Though you may not believe me now

But I promise honey you'll find out

Az's voice joined her one last time as they finished out the song.

When the right one comes along.

All that changes is only everything

When the right one comes…along.

She stared deep into his eyes as his fingers strummed the last chords, wrapping up the song. He was mesmerizing. She was just about to tell him just how amazing he'd been, when she heard the shuffle of feet in the doorway. Both of their heads whipped in that direction to find Cassian and Nesta watching them with goofy grins plastered to their faces. Nesta had her Symphonia resting in her hand.

Gwyn's eyes widened. "How long have you been standing there…?"

Nesta's smile widened, "From the beginning. We showed up just in time. We were just walking through the House looking to get a snack when we heard a guitar. We came to investigate. I'm glad we did."

The blush on Gwyn's cheeks took up the majority of her face. Az stood from the chair, clearing his throat awkwardly. She looked up at him and smiled shyly.

His hand tightened on his guitar slightly. "I, uh, should get to bed. Like I said…early mission."

She nodded, standing as well. "Be safe, Az. I hope everything goes well."

He smiled kindly at her and tipped his head. "Thanks, Gwyn. Good night."

He moved across the balcony, sending a glare to Cass before he passed through the door and into the House. Cass frowned and excused himself, following after Az into the house.

Nesta looked back to Gwyn, the smile still on her face. "You do realize what just happened, right?"

Gwyn's eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. "What are you talking about, Nesta? We just sang a song together. No big deal."

Nesta snorted, moving closer to her. "No big deal? Did you not see the way the two of you were staring hopelessly into each other's eyes or that you were singing a love song together? To each other? If Cass and I hadn't shown up, you probably would've started making out."

Gwyn shook her head, crossing her arms. "That's very unlikely. He said he has a crush on someone."

Nesta paused halfway across the balcony, "Did he say who it was?"

Gwyn sighed, turning to face the city. "No. He said he wasn't ready to tell anyone yet, that he wasn't ready for her to know."

Nesta came up to her side, staring out at the city with her. "You do realize who he's talking about, don't you? Please tell me that you do."

She huffed, shaking her head. "It's not me, that's for sure. Plus, he said he likes it when females make the first move. He said that it shows their character. So, even if it is me that he has a crush on, which it isn't, he'll never make a move. And I'm not sure I have the courage to tell him how I feel, not that I even like him like that, I mean."

Nesta rolled her eyes. "Really? You're still sticking with the story that you don't like him? It's very obvious that you do. It may not be to him, but he's a male. They never pick up on anything when it comes to us females. He may be the Spymaster for the Night Court, but believe me. He's oblivious when it comes to telling when someone has feelings for him."

Gwyn swallowed, glancing back at the doorway where the two males had disappeared through, wondering exactly what Cassian was going to say to Az.

Az walked down the hallway, walking quickly to try and avoid anyone who might follow him. Sure enough, a moment later he heard heavy footfalls behind him. He sighed, but kept walking. "What do you want, Cass?"

Cass caught up to him quickly, putting his hand on Az's shoulder and forced him to stop walking. "What was that about back there?"

Az just stared at him blankly. "I don't know what you mean."

Cass rolled his eyes. "Don't play dumb, brother. You know exactly what I'm talking about. You and Gwyn singing that song together. First of all, I've never even heard you sing before in the five centuries we've been brothers, let alone heard you play the guitar. And there you were, outside on the balcony doing both with Gwyn, a female whom you've known, what? A year?"

Az crossed his arms, being mindful of the guitar still in his hand. "Technically, I've known her longer than that. I was the one who found her in Sangravah, after all. Also, you know I'm a private person. You never asked to hear me sing or play. So I never have. She did both."

Cass lifted an eyebrow. "So, it was just that easy? If a stranger walked up to you on the streets and asked you to play a medley for them, you'd bust out in song? And you know Sangravah doesn't count. You met her then, but you didn't get to know her until we started training."

Az blew air out of his nose in a huff. "Of course I wouldn't just play for a stranger. You know that. You damn well know that Gwyn and I are close friends. We have been for a while. We talk and hang out all the time. It's different with her. I feel like…like I can actually open up to her."

Cass shook his head. "Oh, and you can't with me? Is that it?"

Az closed his eyes briefly, shaking his head. "Cass, that's not what I meant and you know it. Gwyn's different. She's…Gwyn." He shrugged, looking down at the floor embarrassed.

Cass sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I hear what you're saying. I also hear what you're not saying. You like her. You need to tell her."

Az's head snapped up. "I never said anything about-."

Cass waved him off, rolling his eyes. "Oh please, Az. We all see the looks the two of you share. Then there was what happened tonight with Elain and then in the hallway just the two of you. Not to mention, watching the two of you get so into the song out there on the balcony. If you had been standing where I was, you would have seen it too."

Az lifted an eyebrow. "Seen what exactly?"

Cass chuckled, clapping Az on the back. "Two people who clearly have feelings for each other and are both too stubborn to admit it. You can tell me I'm full of it all you want, but I know what I saw. Nes saw it too. The way you both were so into that song and staring into each other's eyes the whole time. She couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole song, you realize that, right? Neither of you took your eyes off the other until you heard us in the doorway. Hell, if we hadn't been standing there, I can guarantee that you'd be out there right now making out with her."

Az nearly choked on his own spit. "I don't know about that. I think you're reading too much into the whole thing. She just sees us as friends."

Cass rolled his eyes and turned to walk away. "Whatever you say, brother. My only suggestion to you would be to just admit to her how you feel and go from there. Otherwise, it's just going to eat you up inside not telling her. And then before you know it, she'll move on and find someone else. Someone less deserving of her than you, trust me on that. Think on it, okay?"

Az chewed on his lip, nodding absently. He barely registered that Cass had moved back down the hall towards the stairs as he walked the rest of the way to his room and slipped inside without another word.

He got ready for bed within minutes, washing up in the bathroom, before slipping underneath the covers in his four poster bed, big enough for his wings. He got himself comfortable and then stared up at the ceiling, wondering just how he was ever going to fall asleep when he couldn't stop thinking about the red-haired beauty who'd stolen his heart.

A/N: So? Any thoughts? I tried to not make it TOO cheesy. I would really like to know what you guys think though. Please review! :) I'm off to go start Chapter 4!
