Chapter 3: Isn't life weird
1 week later
I should really think before I speak. I thought as I looked at myself in the window reflection in the hot pink elegant Lolita dress. I had totally planned on getting new clothes. I even considered redecorating the eye sore apartment but that would require money. Money that I currently could not touch.
I found a bank card last week in the former owner's wallet. So, I had Yuji take me to the bank stating that I was nervous going out. I actually just didn't know where it was at that time. When I arrived at the bank teller's window asking to withdraw the money, in my complete stupidity, I forgot there's security questions tied to bank accounts. I didn't know the pin nor the answers to the questions. I tried getting the bank teller to take pity by telling her I had amnesia and forgot all that info. How was I supposed to know there's a possibility of people who can use quirks to impersonate others? This is what's wrong with society. No trust! No faith! Straight suspicion! Which unfortunately, left me to work in the Tea Shop and wait for my paycheck at the end of the week. I made sure Yuji knew I wanted it all in cash. No more direct deposits!
Apparently, the former Iris was a wonderful employee. She was skilled at making all the drinks and desserts for the tea shop. Unfortunately, for Yuji, Iris 2.0 only knows how to put a tea bag into a teacup and how to eat fancy desserts not make them. I was moved to work as a waitress which allowed me to meet the charming people of this place.
"Hey Babe" A voice called up to me "Like my balls?" I stared down at the short kid with purple hair who thought he was god's gift on earth. He was referring to his hair, but his tone said something else. I take back the charming. I moved away from the kid since he was too close to comfort to my skirt. At least with all my bad work skills, I knew Yuji couldn't fire me since I would yell worker's comp in a heartbeat for the incident that brought me here. I still couldn't push any buttons, nor could I smack bad clients as much as I want to in the face like this pervert over here.
"May I take your order?" I murmured.
He had a weird smile on his face looking up. "What would you recommend?" I would recommend you going back to kindergarten and staying there or a lovely dose of kick in the face if you weren't a kid. "Our special today is a chocolate mousse with a piece of praline chocolate on top with Darjeeling tea."
"Sounds good! We'll take it!" A blonde teen stated as he came to sit at the closest table while pulling the short kid with him. I stared at the bolt of lightning in his hair then saw him pull the other boy closer to him.
"Is that an order of one or two?" "TWO!" I walked away from the odd pair to give the order to Yuji to make.
P.O.V. Shift
Mineta watched the waitress walk away with the orders. "HEY! Why you stepping on my turf! I saw her first!" He nudged Kaminari. Kaminari pulled him closer. "Listen I got some intel on her! Apparently, she's a civilian who got in an accident against a villain. They're saying she forgot everything. We got here a damsel in distress!"
"You mean like we can swoop in and act like her knight in shining?" Mineta started getting a glint in his eye.
"Imagine! No memory of anything before waking up! We can build on this. She must after all be distressed. They're saying she's all by herself around here." Kaminari continued.
P.O.V. Shift
"ACHOO" I sneezed away from the food. Yuji was plating the dishes and handing over the teapot and cups. "You catching a cold?" I felt a shiver down my spine as I turned with the tray to face the teens sitting at the table. "I'm thinking more of woman intuition."
Yuji added some chocolate to the tray going "We gotta build a relationship with our future heroes." Hero? I walked to the table and placed the food down and drinks. I left the receipt on the table and told the teens and told them they could pay at the cashier when done. Suddenly, the short one grabbed my hand and started stroking it.
"I heard of your horrible ordeal." He started slowly looking up at me. Must not hit a kid. Must not hit a kid. I pulled my hand away after a few tugs. Who knew he had such a good grip? "Well…. that feels like another life." "Oh, but if you ever feel that you need someone to walk with you or to feel protected, we are here for you." He pointed to himself and the blond guy sitting across from him.
"How very generous of you. But I heard you're learning to be a hero. Who am I to interrupt what valuable lessons you must be getting in school?"
As I turn to let them eat their food and to put as much distance between myself and the students, I glanced out the window just in time to see a body fly into the air heading this way. I don't know who was more surprised, the guy who obviously was thrown or me at possibly being in his landing path or the bulky guy across the street with two pieces of blonde hair sticking up in the air like bug antenna who punched the flying man.
