#chapter3. Freaking out
If Hermione could act, there's definitely no doubt that she would flinch at Professor Snape's menace in his tone. Actually, even she couldn't move, she was nearly freaking out. All her hair on her neck stood out of fear of being captured on the spot. She saw his eyes flaring with great anger, darker and more perilous than the night.
Yes. Bastard he might be, but also absolutely powerful and dangerous at the same time.
What hurt her the most, however, was his hatred she grasped from his face. Or in another speaking, she felt that.
Differing from normal disdain he showed at class each time, it was a look like she was the largest taint in his whole life.
For that moment, she felt supremely angry, overwhelming fear, embarrassment, shame and any of other emotions, at his unvarnished hatred.
How dare he have the audacity to look at her in that expression! It was him who triggered last night! He stained her life and loyalty!
She might have showed everything in her eyes, cause she heard him growling.
"Stop it!" He glared at her, "You shall never look at me like that!"
Too outraged to pay any attention to his threat, she sneered with deep disgust in her mind.
Listen to him. What dis he ask?
What the hell was she doing …
Merlin, why didn't this man ask what the hell she could do?
Owing to his irresponsibility of getting in with no precautions, she, Hermione Granger, a sixteenth-year-old girl, had to make herself Contraceptive Potion on her own hand after experiencing all these shitty stuffs.
As the saying goes, you reap what you sow. Although Hermione was still in haze about what she could do to their wrong night, there was at least one thing she could confirm to herself, that she did not wanna reap her teacher's bloody kids in ten months later!
Oh, for God sake! What kind of pathetic woman she had been and what kind of bastard she had shagged!
As if he could penetrate her mind and see what she was thinking about, Professor Snape snarled at her, again.
"I said stop it!"
His face twisted in strange pain, yet Hermione was too angry to discover that. However, his roar did catch her attention this time and calm her down a lot miraculously.
Anger would take her nowhere. She murmured quietly over and over again.
With a deep suck of breath, she swung her gaze away.
Dingy dungeon fallen into endless and suffocating silence after the interruption of their eyes confrontation. The only sound left was his agitated pants. As time went by, with no heat source, coldness descended this room, helping both of them cool down.
Since Hermione was unable to move for being charmed, it was Professor Snape who broke the peace. When he did that, his breaths had been taken under control along with all turbulent emotions.
"Fubute Ubcabtaten." He stopped his former incantation with his wand, walked over her, sit on his armchair with back straight, and commanded in icy tone, "Stand up. Explain everything to me."
Hermione saw no point in explaining. Anyway, she struggled up from the floor, trying not to wince with pain of her back for hitting his desk. Didn't know where to start with, she put the first thing in her mind out, "I thought you were eating." She did make sure he was sitting on the high table before sneaking down.
Obviously, it had nothing to do with a good beginning, and she got that fast.
"Ten points from Gryffindor, for being impudent and nonsense and wasting my time." Professor Snape's face clouded, he threatened, "I'll give you another chance to explain, Miss Granger, or you will get a detention with Mr. Filch."
Hermione was not afraid of Mr. Filch at all. Disliked might be, but far away from frightened. So she just frowned a little at his words, which turned out to be an huge inappropriate reaction.
The man sitting on the other side of the desk was too subtle to ignore such micro expressions. He narrowed his eyes at her, clicked the desk with one finger and drawled, "Or, another one hundred points from Gryffindor? Oh, yes," he nodded in satisfaction, "I can see you will like it."
Merlin's socks! One hundred points! Was he crazy? If he did, people in Gryffindor would definitely kill her!
"No! You can't —"
"Actually, I can, girl." He cut her off with a wave of hand, pointing the mess on the ground, "Also, I can send you the expelling from school. And the reason written on the paper can be … Hum, let me think. What about stealing? How do you like it?" His feint smile looked like a devil with his vicious dark eyes.
Expelling from school.
Hermione froze at his words. Her blood drained from her face while icy tendrils of fear coiled in her stomach.
Yes. The man in front of her was in charge of her life to some extent. How could she be that stupid to forget this? Anger did not lead her to the wrong direction, but did make her lose her cautions.
God, was he going to drop her out of school?
It's not impossible. After all, she saw disdain and hatred in his first sight when he found her. No one wanted to be in the scandal of shagging a student, of course Snape is no exception. Now he didn't have to bother with this question any more, for she had already been silly enough to send her weak ankle onto his hand.
Could she coerce him conversely?
It was not a good idea. As a teacher of bad reputation, he might be unhappy to endure more criticism, but she could not tell that he would be afraid of it. Moreover, even if he was dismissed from school, he still had the ability to support himself, which she was too young to make.
What if he succeeded?
Her parents had been sent to Australia without any memory of their beloved daughter. If she was driven out of school, she would have no place to go. Hogwarts was her last home and her friends were the last few of important people left in her life. She truly had nothing more can be lost.
No. She decided. She won't just resign to him as a lamb. She will fight.
So she did it.
"No… I… it's… need…"
It's not a stealing. She would pay for it. She couldn't find some of ingredients in students' storage, which made her come here. She desperately needed them. She couldn't wait. She was ill-equipped to handle it alone and had nowhere else to go. She did need help.
It took a little while for her to find out that she was shivering and burbling. She was not as tough as she wished. Shagging her teacher, betraying her boyfriend, fear of being pregnant and expelled from school all hit together and finally crashed her down. Each word struggled to get out of her mouth earlier than others. No matter how hard she tried, however, her words could not even make up one whole sentence, let alone made any sense.
She closed her eyes with tears dripping down after wrinkles between his brows getting deeper and deeper.
That's it. She ruined everything.
