Here we are lads, another chapter of crappy quality for you to read.
There was only one Pokemon Centre in all of Phenac City. And it wasn't exactly hard to find. It was actually near the very center of the city, at the most popular part of the city besides the main shopping area.
The Battle Square.
Because of how popular training pokemon was here, despite how rare it was to come across a wild pokemon in Orre, it was created by the mayor of the town to promote the growth of trainers. From what I'd been able to dig up by asking around, there were the odd wild pokemon out and about throughout the desert, but the most common way for people to get pokemon at all, was at Gateon Port, which was why water type pokemon were generally the most abundant in Orre on average.
The Battle Square was a lot less benign though when you realised exactly who the mayor of Phenac City, Es Cade actually was. And by that I meant, his real name is Evice, the leader of Team Cipher.
And the reason why I was skipping town real quick now that I've got some money to get by on.
The Pokemon Centre was a nice, calming place. And interestingly enough, the healing machine that pokeballs were placed in was what was used by an actual Nurse Joy, instead of wheeling my pokemon off to get checked over. And while unlike the anime Pokemon Centre it didn't have rooms available for travelling trainers, it did a lounge and recreational area with computers, a pool table and a few other things.
I wanted out of dodge nice and quick though, so as soon as my pokemon were healed up, I left the Pokemon Centre behind and made a quick beeline for my training spot just outside the city.
I wanted to meet and greet Grovyle and Graveler. Graveler wouldn't be a problem at all since it's a Shadow Pokemon, but I'm not sure how Grovyle will react to the fact I stole it from its old trainer, despite how much it seemed to dislike him.
So, the first thing I did when I reached my destination and hopped out of my truck, was bring out Vibrava and Misdreavus from their pokeballs.
As always, when they appeared in front of me, they regarded me silently, awaiting my orders. Depressing, but I'll fix them. I smiled at them and crouched down, placing my hands on their heads and gently rubbing them, "Good work you two, you were amazing." I praised them. It was interesting just how they felt. Vibrava's body was insectoid in shape, but it was smooth and felt like scale, while with Misdreavus, it felt like running my hand over a soft bed sheet.
Their expressions didn't change at all, but they did lean into my tough and my smile involuntarily stretched a bit. Progress!
I pulled back from them after a minute of fondly petting them, and reached into my pocket to pull out a familiar dark stone, the dusk stone, "Check it out guys, this is one of the things we got for winning." I excitedly held it up to show them.
Vibrava regarded it blankly, but interestingly, Misdreavus' eyes were drawn to it.
...Wait. This will be the first time I'll ever see evolution! Excitement surged through me at the thought, and I reached forward and gently touched the dusk stone to the ghost types head gently.
All of a sudden, the weight of the dusk stone in my hand disappeared and Misdreavus erupted into light and began expanding in size before my very eyes.
"Holy shit!" I couldn't help but gush, watching it happen with eager eyes. Real live pokemon evolution in front of me! All those years on the street were so worth it! I am truly blessed!
It took me a few moments to realise my hands were actually shaking I was so excited. It was like the same kind of excitement that happened when I was actually getting somewhere with a really pretty girl, but...way beyond that. An excitement of a much higher degree.
When the light finally receded, its body now larger, and pure dark purple in colour, head shaping up into a form reminiscent of a witches hat, a Mismagius sitting in Misdreavus' place.
How amazing!
I circled around it, admiring the ghost types new fully evolved form, just taking it in fully, before a thought occurred to me, "Did you learn any new attacks when you evolving?" I asked as I came around to stand in front of the ghost type.
Mismagius gave a languid blink, before slowing inclining its head. "Please show me then." I requested.
it nodded its head once more, before turning to face away from me. I watched as a moment later as it pressed its hands together before drawing them apart and drawing a circle in the air, trails of flame being left behind and then the thrust both arms forward at the centre of it and suddenly, the gap between the circle of flame was filled with a raging inferno and fired out in a huge torrent of flame that roared through the air and disappeared into the distance.
"...Is that Mystical Fire?" I gaped a bit. It looked just as I remembered it from the anime.
Mismagius turned to me and nodded simply. I laughed and happily swept the ghost up into a hug and spun it around, "Way to go!" I praised it, even if I could only physically touch it because the ghost pokemon was allowing me to.
Maybe by having it show it off enough to Vibrava, the dragon pokemon would be able to figure out Flamethrower?
Once I put the ghost down, I grabbed Graveler's pokeball and brought it out. Only, what appeared in front of me, was no Graveler.
"...What the utter fuck!?" I went right back to gaping in shock. It had the same build, but it was much larger, and had reptilian face with crimson red eyes, with a large spherical rock hiding its torso, the only visible parts of its body being said reptilian face, and two short but incredibly thick and muscular arms and legs.
A fucking Golem.
"...How the fuck did you evolve?" I found myself asking one of my two newest pokemon.
It just stared back at me blankly.
It couldn't be because I stole its pokeball, right? I mean, that can't count as a fucking trade. Can it? How does this make any sense at all!?
'You know what, I've not been here long, so I should just roll with it.' I told myself, slapping my cheeks. I mean, what am I gonna do, complain? I just got a free evolution for my new Graveler into a Golem.
Instead, I just settled for grinning at the newly evolved pokemon and flashing it a thumbs up, "Good job!" I praised it, only to get another blank look in return.
I sighed and pulled out the pokeball for my other new pokemon. Hopefully it will be much more animated than these guys.
Grovyle crossed its arms as it appeared in front of me a moment later, neon yellow eyes regarding me almost blandly, head cocked to the side ever so slightly.
There was a reason I dealt with Vibrava, Mismagius and Golem first. It was on the off chance that Grovyle was aggressive to me, that they would be just there and waiting for my order to attack. Thankfully, it seemed Grovyle wasn't aggressive, just as I suspected and was willing to hear me out.
"...So good news, you're not with that asshole anymore," I pointed out, trying to sound chipper about it, before a grimace worked its way onto my face, "Kind of mild news...is that he's dead, and I killed him."
Grovyle's eyes narrowed slightly, but gave no other reaction than that, "Look, I'm not gonna make any excuses, he was a piece of shit, but I'm a piece of shit as well," I rubbed at the back of my neck awkwardly. It was uncomfortable coming out and revealing this, especially to someone I really wanted to like me, but I'm not gonna lie about this to my pokemon, "Even if he didn't come at me, I was going to kick his ass and steal both you and Graveler, or well Golem now anyway. He just forced my hand when it came to killing him and I couldn't let blab to his bosses about me, I'm not strong enough to deal with them yet."
"Gro." Grovyle gave me a nod and I got the feeling it was urging me to get on with it.
"Look, I'm a cunt, but I'm a cunt that doesn't like hurting innocent people, and I really love Pokemon. I'm not happy at all with what these assholes are doing to you guys by turning you into Shadow Pokemon just to make you stronger and fighting machines that won't disobey them," I continued on, gesturing to the three shadow pokemon staring at us blankly, "I've got a good idea on how to cure Shadow Pokemon and turn them back to normal, and...I'm planning on putting an end to Team Cipher the ones behind it all when I'm strong enough."
I'd thought long and hard on it the past few days. And even though it would be much safer for me to head to Gateon Port and get on the first ship out of this shithole region, I can't deny that the path to power and glory that was open before me was far more tempting. I know what Team Cipher is up to, and I have the Snag Machine.
They give out free Shadow Pokemon to anyone who wins at the Pyrite Colosseum, and Pyrite if its anything like the games is absolutely crawling with people with Shadow Pokemon that I can steal with the Snag Machine and not have to worry about them disobeying me.
On top of that, I know all the methods of training the likes of Ash Ketchum went through in the anime. Things like the Spin Dodge and Counter Shield. And I'd found out through asking around, that there is no six pokemon carry limit and that while pokemon PC's existed, they were more for convenience rather than anything else.
I can amass an army of Shadow Pokemon if I go for it. And then I can use them to crush Team Cipher. And as long as I'm careful, I can gang up on the three most tempting Shadow Pokemon targets. Entei, Suicune and Raikou. With them amongst my numbers, I should be able to put an end to Cipher and anyone else that challenges me.
And then...that would leave a power vacuum open for me to step in to and grasp the highest of authority in this region for myself.
Jett Stone, Champion of Orre. It has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
It was risky and dangerous. But, I'm strong and I'm tough. And I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. All the power of a region is near mine for the taking, and all the pokemon I could want.
Grovyle blinked, and its eyes widened noticeably at my revelation, its head strayed to the side and it looked at Golem specifically, before turning back to me and giving me a pointed look, "Yeah, I'm not lying, I'm pretty sure Celebi can fix these guys up, and I've got a rough idea on where to summon Celebi from and how," I answered its unspoken question, or at least what I assumed was its unspoken question, "But, the thing is, I'm going to need to get a hell of a lot stronger and take a ton of Shadow Pokemon from others if I want to bring Cipher down. And for that, I need strong pokemon myself. Strong and amazing pokemon like you Grovyle."
As I finished, I held my hand, palm out towards Grovyle invitingly, "I can't make you stay if you don't want to, and even if I could, I don't want to force you," I continued on, "But, you agreeing to be my pokemon, would be a massive help."
Grovyle eyed my hand, then looked to Golem and the other two, before giving a sigh and turning back to me. The grass type stepped forward towards me and uncrossed its arms. It looked me in the eyes before smirking and placing one tri-fingered hand in my own, "Grovyle." it nodded.
A massive smile spread across my face, "Good to have you on the team mate," I grasped its hand in my palm and shook it, "..Actually, now that you have you can help me out with something."
"Gro?" the grass type raised a brow at me.
"Yeah, while I want to see what moves you and Golem have fully, there's something else much more important I need to learn first," I said, before cocking my head at the other three pokemon, "...Can you tell me what genders you guys are?"
Grovyle snorted.
Shadow Rush, Hammer Arm, Rollout, Rock Blast, Earthquake and Explosion for Golem, and Leaf Blade, Focus Punch, Iron Tail, Quick Attack and X-scissor for Grovyle was what I learned the move sets of my two newest pokemon were.
...When Golem started glowing all white like a Voltorb from the anime when I asked him to show off his moves, I near shit myself when I recognised it and hurriedly ordered him to stop. I breathed a total sigh of relief there.
And as it turned out, all of my pokemon are male, besides Mismagius. One girl, and three boys. I can work with that.
After I had them show off their attacks to me, I brought back the three shadow pokemon to their pokeballs and kept Grovyle out alongside me.
The company was nice, but from Grovyle I managed to piece together a few things that painted a picture of the overall world for me. Like, the bald prick had mentioned stealing him from a professor in Hoenn. As it turned out, as I thought, it was Professor Birch. And the man didn't have a son, but he did have a daughter.
Which told me, I wasn't in the anime world. And it was just two months ago that Grovyle as a Treecko was stolen and brought to Orre by the prick I took him from.
I could be in a world like the games, or even the manga. I grimaced at the thought. I actually hadn't gotten around to reading the manga yet before I ended up here. I only knew some of the basics like it followed the game protagonists.
Either way. Our first destination was an hour out from Phenac City, to the east according to the map on my PDA. The Outskirt Stand.
After all, before anything else, I needed to get my hands on some Pokeballs. I mean, I've got six from pilfering everything I could from Niver, but that wasn't exactly enough to catch all the shadow pokemon I'm bound to come across now is it?
And roughly an hour later, we pulled up near the building when it came into sight. It was a large trailer like building with dozens of gas pumps around it. 'Perfect, I can fill up the tank while here.' I mused, pulling to a stop beside a parked jeep and hopping out alongside Grovyle.
As we did though, I heard a female voice scream, "What are you doing!" whoever it was screamed, "Let me go!"
"Gro?" Grovyle cocked his head to the side before looking at me, waiting for my judgement.
I nodded, "C'mon, let's check it out." I said. I was an asshole, but not so much of one I would leave somebody alone when I hear something like that.
Grovyle fell in line behind me and we made our way out of the assembled parked cars towards the screaming voice. We came out behind the the large gas pumps, where I immediately caught sight of a brown truck, and not far from it, two men, one blonde and dressed in blue, while another with an orange vest, some weird eared hat and goggles were bodily dragging a pretty girl towards it.
A very familiar pretty girl. Tall, with bright orange hair held in small twin tails, dressed in a a very, very tight white skirt that barely reached middle thigh, a bell baring purple top stretched out by a voluptuous chest and a stylish blue jacket thrown over the top.
That's...Rui right? And those two, those are Mirror B's goons, I think?

Right, and here we go lads. Another quick little chapter finished and done with. I rolled for Mismagius and Golem getting new evolutions upon evolving like in the anime sometimes happens.
As for how Graveler evolved. Well, this is Colosseum set in the Pokemon Special/Adventure manga-verse. Red accidentally picked up Blue's pokemon early in the manga and left with them, and that was enough apparently for for his Machoke to evolve into Machamp.
I don't create the rules of the pokemon world, I just gleefully abuse them.
