Jay had been awake for a couple of hours already, but it was still early to go to work. He hadn't been able to sleep a wink that night. He had spent tossing and turning in bed remembering the events that had happened 8 and 11 years ago.
He thought with so much sadness and pain of his little sister, he did not accept the fact that he had been away when she was kidnapped.
Reluctantly he had forced himself to get out of bed and get ready for the working day.
On another occasion, if he couldn't sleep, he would get up early and run to clear his head. But not that day.
Yes he felt too sad he had a lump in his throat and stomach and a slight headache that threatened to get worse by the hour due to lack of sleep. In the last week he had only slept a few hours for a very difficult case which they had successfully completed. This was supposed to be a night of absolute rest.
When it was time to leave for work, he got in the car and drove off. While driving he tried to distract himself by looking at everything around him, but nothing seemed to distract him from his thoughts. He managed to arrive safely to work and noticing that he had arrived first and well in advance decided to go for a coffee before sitting down at his desk and going through some documents that needed to be examined and filed.
When the team members arrived they greeted Jay, but noticed that the detective was absent, distracted. He had greeted them quickly by pretending to be concentrating on files he was viewing on the computer.
- Hey Jay good morning! - Hayley told him without getting an answer. - Planet Earth calls jay, hey ... - she said touching his arm.
- Uhm yeah tell me - Jay said questioningly.
- What are you thinking about? I've been calling you for a while. - She said observing what she was reading on the PC.
- Sorry Hayley I was lost in thought - he said - I have to go talk to Voight.
Having said this he quickly went to his boss's office. He needed a few hours off. He had to handle a family matter with his brother.
After getting the ok from Voight he went back to his desk.
- Then? What do you all have? Let's get to work.
