The following Monday Yuki kept her distance from Shinso, it became hard to do since she sat directly behind him along the windows. During lunch she gave up on staying away when she saw him sitting by himself, joining him she welcomed Kaminari when he sat next to Shinso and all his friends that he brought with him. The table now full, Shinso gave Yuki a 'this is your fault' look, smiling she mouthed 'sorry' while signing it though she doubted he knew sign language.
"Yuki, what happened to your hair?" a girl from the support course exclaimed touching Yuki's now shoulder length hair. "It was so long." She whined.
"I was grabbed by some villains." Yuki explained, the boys at the table turning their attention to her questioning what she just said. "Yeah, they wanted me for my healing abilities." It was crazy, they cut off half my ear to prove my quirk. She signed to her friend as she spoke.
"But why your hair?" the girl exclaimed as she signed, another scar now? Good thing your white fur hides them. But why does it look like the purple boy has one of your scars? And your eyes aren't gold anymore, don't tell me you gave it to him?
"They tried to… you know, but when it became apparent that I bite none of them wanted to run the risk of putter their manhood near my fangs." The table grew dead silent, smiling she showed off her teeth, sharing a light laugh with Ashido and her friend as the boys looked on horrified. He almost died to save me, stabbed in the neck. "They got mad, knocked me out, muzzled me, and cut off my hair." To save him I had to use my healing on him. I want to make it up to him for saving me, but I think I'm just annoying him instead. She confessed with an awkward smile.
"What are you two doing?" Bakugo demanded with a roar, his irritation bursting.
"It's sign language, we're having a private conversation." Yuki answered.
I thought that giving that to someone was a big deal for you. Her friend asked shocked.
"Why don't you just leave to talk." Bakugo yelled trying to stand from his chair, Kirishima holding him back and telling him to calm down.
It was worth it. Yuki finished with a warm smile and a glance at Shinso, he was watching them signing a little too closely making her hope that he didn't know since they were essentially talking about him.
Shinso learned sign language when he was young, he had hoped that it would encourage people to talk to him if they didn't have to fear his quirk. Yuki moved her hands so fast, her signing so fluid he knew that she learned from a young age and was guessing it had to do with her mother having an interpreter when she approached Aizawa and him, her mother was deaf. After he finished his food he signed to Yuki, we should talk. Her eyes grew wide, her cheeks red, her ears pulling back, tail fluffing, she nodded and followed him outside.
"It sounds like the regeneration was a one-time thing." He started coming to a stop under some pick cherry blossom trees.
"Kind of. It's like something I give." She explained with a guilty look on her face.
"Is it the reason you feel the pull towards me?"
"Truth is, when I heard you arguing with Aizawa, I felt it then." She admitted. "What we were talking about was my Golden Eyes, it's something all descendants in my family have. I tried to heal you without using it, but it wasn't enough, you were dying."
"What does that mean? What did it do?"
"I can regenerate anything, like with my ear." She pointed to the ear that he watched being cut off. "But only on myself, if anyone else loses a limb I can heal them, but the limb is gone forever. When I gave you my Golden Eyes, it made it so I can activate it."
"You can make me regrow body parts?" she gave a short nod.
"If I can reach you before you die, you won't."
"Why do you look so guilty?" he demanded, his hands in his pockets. "There's something you're not telling me."
"Khao Manee Feline clan. I'm a direct descendant." She chocked out before turning around and walking back into the building.
Back in his room Shinso was working out with the balcony door open late at night, his thoughts on the information he found on her family and their inherited abilities. She didn't have two quirks like he thought, the healing part of her cat quirk seemed to be linked somehow. All the direct descendants were born with gold eyes, it was a sign of them possessing the regeneration ability, an ability they could share with one other person. Most of the time they shared it with their spouse, sometimes their hero partners, and on a rare occasion a friend, but never with a stranger like what Yuki did with Shinso. Now that she had shared it with him, her eyes were no longer gold, looking in a mirror he noticed his eyes were unchanged.
Pushing himself off the floor he grabbed a nearby towel, wiping away the sweat from his face he turned to grab his water bottle when he saw Yuki's white hair and fur lit up by the light of the moon walking over to his balcony along the railing. "Can't you use the door?" he growled in annoyance as she stepped down and stood at the doorway.
"I heard you like cats." She started quickly looking away from his shirtless body.
"So what. Doesn't mean that I'm going to be interested in you. That's just weird." He spat out.
"That's not what I'm talking about, I need your help." She locked her eyes with his, she was serious.
"With what?" he demanded taking a drink of his water.
"Mr. Aizawa said I'm not allowed to follow cats by myself anymore." She started.
"Is it hurt?" he asked remembering her story of how she was kidnapped, lured off campus by a bleeding cat.
"I think so, just come with me." Turning around she perched on the railing again before pausing and looking back at him. "Can you jump down from this high up? I've seen Aizawa jump from high up before and he trained you right?"
"I'll be fine," he answered pulling a jacket on and joining her on the balcony, "just lead the way." He followed her to the trees, pausing when he realized he couldn't see anything in the darkness of the canopy. Reaching out she offered her hand to lead him, she could see fine, taking out his phone he turned on the flashlight and followed behind her once more. The large ears on her head swiveled, her head tilting as she pinpointed sounds. Watching her he was amazing at how she walked like a cat on the hunt, her tail swinging behind her she moved silently. Every time he stepped on a branch one of her ears would flick back quick. Coming to a sudden stop she stood up straight, faced Shinso, and pointed to a fallen tree with a grown cat sitting on top fixing Yuki with an intense gaze.
"That's the cat I healed that day." Yuki said taking a step backwards until her back almost touched Shinso, her tail wrapping around his ankle. She's trying to protect me, Shinso thought. Her breathing slowed, Shinso couldn't even hear her breathing, her ears turning as she scanned for any noise. Turning her head, he got a look at her eyes, the pupils fully dilated, she was looking for any signs of anyone else around them. From inside the hallow in the fallen trunk Shinso heard a familiar squeak.
"Kittens." He pointed out walking forward. Lifting the light from his phone he shined it on the two kittens, one gray one and one that matched its mother's white and orange coat.
"Let's take them back to the dorms, I'm sure Aizawa would take one." Yuki whispered; her eyes locked on the mother cat that walked off into the woods. Picking up the kittens she handed them to Shinso one after the other, taking his phone she held it behind her for him to see as she led them back to the dorms. Waiting outside by the front doors Aizawa expresses is anger at Yuki for wondering off again, she pointed out that she didn't go alone and held one of the kittens out to him.
"Are you attempting to bribe me?" Aizawa growled, his hair lifting.
"Would never dream of it, but someone needs to take care of them. Their mother is close to death." Yuki answered.
"How do you know that?" Shinso asked.
"Felines always know when their time is near, it has to be why she called out to me and lead us to the kittens." She answered handing the gray kitten to her teacher.
