It was about four days later and Tony was losing his mind. He tried, he really did, to listen to what Pepper said and let sleeping dogs lie, but he couldn't let it go.
"JARVIS, pull up all the records you can find on Rosemary Sage Potter from England and her relatives the Durselys. She's six almost seven, black hair, green eyes, ratty looking glasses."
"Right away sir."
Not even thirty seconds later JARVIS spoke again. "I have the files, sir, and I don't think you'll like this."
Rosemary looked up at the knock on her door. She had been doodling on a hotel notepad she'd found since she couldn't do much else. Knowing her relatives wouldn't knock and that she would never have visitors, she went back to doodling figuring that whoever it was would figure it out soon. When they didn't knock again for a few minutes she thought they'd left until someone spoke.
"Hey Rosie, it's Tony. Open up squirt, we need to talk."
Rosemary froze. 'How did he find me? It doesn't really matter Rosemary, just stay quiet, he'll go away if he thinks you're not here.'
"Rosie, I know you're in there. JARVIS checked the hotel cameras and you haven't left your room since last night. I know this might be strange but you need to let me in. Your relatives don't have to know, I won't tell them," Tony said.
Slowly, Rosemary walked to the door. "You promise?"
"Promise, squirt."
Taking a deep breath she unlocked the door and gently opened it. Not looking him in the eyes she said, "Come on in then."
Tony walked in and looked around before sitting on the bed and bouncing lightly. "Nice springs, real comfy." Rosemary just hummed and nodded as she sat back down at the desk. Tony watched her fidget for a moment, trying to read her before he started talking.
"Here's the thing, squirt. The past few days something about you and your relatives nagged at me. Finally, today I just couldn't take it anymore and asked JARVIS, my AI which is kind of like a computer, to pull up anything on you he could find. And you wanna know what he found?" He paused, but kept going when Rosemary stayed silent. "He found records for your mother up until she turned eleven. She only popped up three times after that. Once on her marriage certificate with James Potter in '79, again in '80 on your birth certificate and finally in '81 on her death certificate. If that wasn't weird enough, those same three documents are the only trace of your father."
"Are you saying my dad didn't exist?" Rosemary asked.
"That's exactly what I'm saying, at least on paper." Tony sighed and looked at me. "That's not even the most worrying thing I found, or why I came here."
"It's not?" she asked nervously, wringing her hands slightly.
"No, it's not. What's really worrying is the amount of times Child Services has been called on your relatives only to never be followed up on and for whoever called it in to miraculously move away or simply forget you existed," he said trying to get Rosie to look at him.
"I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about Mr. Stark."
"Oh, so you weren't walking with a limp when you opened the door? And you're not holding your arm like that because it's hurt?" Tony moved to squat down in front of Rosemary. "Kid, there's no record of you from the time you're born, not even school records. You look underfed, you're terrified of your Aunt and Uncle, and you're practically wearing rags while they're all fully clothed." Tilting her chin up Tony said, "Rosie, I'm gonna ask you this once and I need you to be honest with me, it's the only way I can help you. Are your Aunt and Uncle abusing you?"
"You can't help me, this is just the way it is. Please, leave before you make it worse."
"That's the thing kid, I can help. All you have to do is tell me and let me take you to the hospital. They won't be able to stop it then."
Rosemary started crying and hugged Tony. Wrapping her arms around his neck she wept, "Please, please get me out of here."
Tony immediately picked her up and gently carried her out of the room and into the elevator. Looking down at her, all Tony could think about was how he could make the Dursleys pay and how to ensure that this little girl got the life she deserved.
