Chapter 4

-First year pt 1-

Cassie woke up the next morning feeling as if she was in a dream. She dressed quickly and went down the stairs to the common room. She spotted Cedric on the couch and went over to him. "Hey." Cedric looked up from the book he was reading and smiled. "Hey. Are you excited for classes?" he asked. Cassie nodded excitedly. "Very. Especially charms. My aunt was telling me about it and showing me some of them. Like this one. Watch."

She took out her wand and grabbed a cup from a nearby table. She dropped on the ground and it broke into pieces. Cedric stared at her, waiting for her do something with it. "Reparo!" The cup gathered itself back into one piece.

Cedric laughed. "That was really good!" "Thanks!" Cassie replied. They then noticed that the common room was emptying. They followed the steady stream of Hufflepuffs out of the common room and towards the Great Hall.

Cedric and Cassie sat down together near the center of the table. The food smelled delicious, and Cassie was hungry. While they were eating, Professor Sprout, Head of Hufflepuff House, handed out the schedules.

They finished eating and headed to their first class, Charms. Cassie enjoyed it and laughed when Cedric said she was talented. "I don't know about that. I've never done anything like this before this summer." Cedric just shrugged and smiled.

The day went on and Cassie decided that this was the best place in the whole world. She loved all of her classes, well, almost all of them. Potions wasn't terrible, but she didn't like the professor. Professor Snape didn't seem very happy to be teaching Potions, and he wasn't very nice either. But, Cassie tried her best and did pretty well for her first day.

Five weeks later, Cedric and Cassie were out by the lake, doing homework. "You know, it's much easier to write a paper on the laws of Transfiguration then muggle english." Cassie said absentmindedly. Cedric laughed. "Did you have to do that a lot?" Cassie shrugged. "Not a lot, but I never really liked it." They both laughed.

Cassie looked up and saw Fred and George Weasley running up to them. "Oi, Cassie, is it? I haven't seen you around much." Fred said breathlessly as he plopped down next to their blanket. "Probably because we're in different houses Fred." replied Cassie. Fred smirked. Cassie was always able to tell him and George apart.

"Well, the thing is...we have a business proposition for you." said George. Cassie raised an eyebrow. "What does that mean?" The Weasley twins had been at Hogwarts only five weeks and had already gained a reputation for being troublemakers.

George grinned. "Well you see, this Gryffindor boy, Lee Jordan, pranked us the other day. Or at least tried to." Fred laughed. "Yeah he didn't get far. But we need to get him back."

"And?" Cassie could see where this was going.

"We need some help. And you two seem like you would be very good at this sort of thing." Fred said looking at the Cassie and Cedric.

"I've never pranked anyone in my life, and I don't really want detention." said Cedric frowning. "Me neither." agreed Cassie.

"Come on! You won't get detention! We never get detention!" George protested. Cedric looked at him disdainfully. "You had detention last night for setting off dung bombs in Filch's office." Filch was the janitor and the twins seemed to think he was a perfect target.

"Well almost never. Come on! Have some fun! Take a risk!" Fred endeavored. Cassie and Cedric exchanged glances. "Well... I suppose one time wouldn't hurt." Cassie said tentatively. "Perfect. I knew you'd come around! Ok, meet us at midnight on the sixth floor corridor by the portraits. Bye!" And with that the twins ran off.

"What have you gotten us into?" Cedric said drily. "Oh, just a little bit of fun." Cassie answered with a grin.

That night Cassie and Cedric crept down the seventh floor corridor, looking for the twins. "Which portrait did George say to meet him by?" Cedric asked in a whisper. "He didn't. He just said the portraits." Cassie replied, also whispering.

"Psst. Over here." Cedric and Cassie turned to their right and saw the twins beckoning them over. They joined the twins, who were holding some odd looking bundles in their hands and grinning. "What are those?" Cassie hissed, pointing to the bundles. "You'll see." Fred smirked.

Cassie rolled her eyes with enough sass to rival her cousin Harry. Fred handed a bundle each to Cedric and Cassie, then led them down the corridor. "Ok. So we plant the color bombs down the corridor, then we make sure we know the exact moment Lee Jordan walks down to breakfast. Then.." George made an exploding sound.

"So that's what these are? Color bombs?" Cassie said curiously. Fred nodded, grinning. "Where did you get them?" Cedric asked, still whispering. "We made them." said George simply.

Cassie and Cedric looked at each other, huge grins on their faces. "And what do you four think your doing?" a heavily Scottish accented voice asked them. Damn. Cassie thought. McGonagall.

"Mr and Mr Weasley, to be expected, but Miss Potter and Mr Diggory! I did not think you were the troublemaking sort. 40 points from both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. And detention!" McGonagall finished, giving all four of them stern looks.

Cassie and Cedric glared at the twins. 40 points?! And detention?! Cassie thought despairingly. She looked at Cedric, who seemed mostly annoyed but a little nervous.

McGonagall escorted them back to their dorms, and alerted the prefects. She also informed the guilty parties that their legal guardians would be informed.

Cedric gave Cassie a knowing look when the professor said "guardians" instead of parents. Cassie and Cedric had had lengthy discussions about Cassie's parents, most ending with Cassie in tears, and Cedric comforting her.

They did their detentions, and eventually made up with the twins. But when the twins asked them to help again, they said no. They asked again. Cedric was firm with them. They didn't want any part in it. But when Cassie was bullied by a Gryffindor fourth year, Cedric went to them to ask for help.

This was the beginning of the Weasley, Potter, and Diggory escapades.
