You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
The drive to the high school had been longer than Jade had liked to admit. Dropping her Trixie off at her school was no problem. Teachers were there waiting for their new student. Jade watched a few kids surround her sister. New kids in Forks must be a big deal. Trixie waved at her and Chole. Their mom blew her a kiss and drove down the road through town. The elementary school was only about twenty minutes away from the high school. Chole pulled up the carpool line, reaching behind her she got out Jade's bento box and backpack.
"Here ya go kiddo. Have a good day.'' Chole leaned over and kissed her daughter on the cheek, "Hey if you feel bad or anything call me, your dad or your aunt, one of us will come and get you.'' Jade nodded. As she got out of the car. Putting on her backpack the first thing she saw were students looking at her and whispering. Her face blanched, she looked back. Chole gave her a smile and shoved her out of the car. I'm a Morningstar. I got this. Waving bye to Chole, she watched as she drove away. Facing the new crowd of faces that welcomed her, she bowed her head slightly and gave her biggest and brightest smile. Most of the students smiled back and waved at her. Waving back, she made her way to the office getting her schedule. Opening the door, she again was met with a smile from the secretary, an older woman with salt and pepper hair. I haven't seen this many smiles since my last photoshoot. Jade thought.
"You must be Eurydice Morningstar! Welcome to Forks'' Jade cringed at the mention of her first name. Eurydice. A name was given to her by her birth mother, a cruel and ironic name. A grimaced her features as she took her schedule from the secretary.
"If it's at all possible I prefer Jade.'' The secretary nodded and handed her schedule. Walking out the door, she looked at her schedule for the year; Honors English, Algebra, PE, then lunch, Geography, and then Choir. With a spring in her step, Jade Morningstar set out to conquer the world.
Jade Morningstar did not conquer the world. Lunch was in full swing and she was crying in the bathroom. She counted her blessings that no one was there to see her like this. Black rimmed eyes matched so perfectly with the red that lined her eyes. The anxiety of the last few weeks was finally getting to her. Looking in the book bag she rummaged through it for her medicine. Pulling out the bottle, her hands shook as she tried to unscrew the cap. Come on! Come on! Letting out a growl she banged the bottle against the sink, breaking the orange plastic and spilling the pills on the floor.
"Just fuck me why don't you?'' She didn't hear a stall to one of the toilets open. Bella walked out slowly watching as a girl with purple hair on the floor picking up little white pills. She tried to stuff them back into the broken bottle. Bending down Bella started to pick up the pills, holding out her hand to the girl, Bella realized that she was new.
"That's kind of a blunt way to introduce yourself.'' For the first time in six weeks, Bella found herself smiling. The purple-haired girl gave a choking sound that turned into laughter as she took the last of the pills from her. Looking up Bella saw, like her, she had been crying if black-rimmed eyes suggested.
" Sorry about that, that was really more to my grandfather, He just loves fucking with me... Uh, thank you for helping me.'' Bella stood up and leaned against the sink. She watched as the girl took two of the pills.
"I'm Bella by the way, Bella Swan.'' The girl gave her an odd look before a look of recognition flashed across her face.
"Like Chief Sawn? My mom is working with your dad on those missing hiker cases, she just got transferred to Seattle a few weeks ago.'' Bella looked at the girl in front of her. Did dad mention someone from Seattle coming help with the case he's working? She looks really familiar.
"Nice to meet you, Bella, I'm Jade Morningstar.'' The name hit Bella like a freight train. Of course, it was Jade Morningstar! The Instagram famous model, daughter of the infamous Lucifer Morningstar the nightclub owner from LA. What was she doing all the way out here?
"It's nice to meet you. Has anyone showed you around yet?'' Bella asked. She didn't know why she was asking her. There was something about her that made her just feel… more like herself, her old self before she met Edward.
"Yeah, just about everyone in my freshmen class, and I think a few others offered, but I think I got the gist of it,'' Jade said. Looking in the mirror she made a face, before she could reach into her bag, Bella reached into the pocket of her jeans and took out some tissues.
"They're not makeup wipes, but it's good in a pinch.'' Jade thanked her and took the tissues from Bella. Slowly her anxiety slowly faded and laughter bubbled out of her. Wiping of the eyeshadow and mascara from her face she turned to face Bella,
"So how about some lunch?'' She asked.
To say the sight of Bella Swan eating lunch with a freshman that was a bit a celebrity in the small school was a shock. For the past six weeks, all she did was mope around and sit at her ex-boyfriend's table alone. She wouldn't even talk to her friends, much less eat sushi out of a bento box with the new girl. The two girls talked and laughed as if they had known each other for years. Dipping her sushi into the soy sauce Bella asked Jade,
"I don't want to pry, why were you beating up that poor medicine bottle against the sink?'' Jade sat back on the bench, propping her feet on the table, considering her answer.
"First day jitters. Not a lot of people know this, but I'm not human. I am just the personification of anxiety." Bella gave her a smile before eating the rest of the sushi that Jade shared with her.
"Oh yeah, I feel you. To be fair, this is the first time in weeks that I have even remotely normal.'' Jade cocked her head to the side. Taking a deep breath she explained the birthday fiasco, leaving out the whole Jasper wanting to eat her bit. Jade looked at her like she grew a second head.
"Wait, wait. Let me get this straight. Your ex Eddie took you to his parent's house for a little get-together with his family right?'' Bella nodded. "And when you're opening presents, you get a tiny paper cut and push you into the table, slicing your arm open. He ghosts you for like a week, and then he dumps you in the forest leaving you to wander around for Hell knows how long?'' Bella nodded feeling that familiar sadness kicking in. Maybe telling Jade wasn't a good idea. It had become the talk of the school, most people just gave her a pitiful look whenever she was near.
"Yeah, that's the gist of it.'' Looking embarrassed. Jade took a sip of water before leaning forward grabbing Bella's arm.
"No offense Bells, but your ex sounds like a giant asshole.'' Jade crossed her arms as she watched Bella slump down in what could only be perceived in shame.
"I'm sorry Bella. I can't imagine being in that position… well a little bit, but I did not mean for it sound like that.'' Bella put her hands up to her face, trying to cover the blush creeping on her face. What was it about Jade, that made her feel so normal? Not that she complained, it was like being pulled out of a tunnel and she was slowly seeing the light.
"No, it's uh… you know looking back yeah was kind of an asshole. But he was uh my first boyfriend and I spent almost all of my time with him and his family'' Bella explained. Ah first love! Jade sighed dreamily. Bella smirked and gave her a light smack on the arm before changing the subject.
"You said that uh, what brings you all the way to Forks? Your dad owns this big fancy nightclub in LA and you'll move all the way out here?'' Jade didn't know how to answer that. What would be the best answer? Jade could have said,
"Oh you know, I was kidnapped by a dirty cop and so we decided to move here so I can get over myself.'' But instead went with,
"My mom, well future stepmom Chole, got transferred to Seattle and my dad, I guess wanting to get a change of scenery wanted to open a bar here,'' Jade said. There was something in her body language that seemed off to Bella, her confidence seemed to waver on the topic of her moving to Forks. Not wanting to pry, Bella nodded and ate the last piece of sushi.
"Yeah, I think Charlie said something about a detective coming up from LA. Her name is Chole?'' Jade nodded, glad to be moving to something else.
"Yeah, Chole Decker. Just as a little note, to not bring up Hot Tub High School if you do meet mom.'' Bella's eyes went wide,
"No way, you're step-mom is not that Chole Decker. She was in that movie with the top…'' Jade put a hand on Bella's mouth and shushed her and nodded.
"Chole isn't my step-mom yet, the wedding isn't until… only heaven knows, and I don't even think they know up there,'' Jade said nodding. The bell finally rang, the two girls relucent to part.
"Hey, I know this is sudden, but do you want to hang out at my house?'' Bella asked.
"I would love to! I just have to text my dad, he's supposed to be picking me after school.'' Bella looked at her and then remembered, oh yeah she's a freshman. She can't drive.
"Cool, just met by my truck, it's kind old a bright red. Can't miss it. See ya around Jade.'' The two girls hugged and went their separate ways. As Bella walked to class she couldn't but wonder if there was something more to Jade Morningstar that met the eye.
