Chapter 4: Someone You Loved

As time went by Burt could see the hurt and pain in Noah's eyes as he would visit Quinn. Seeing no change every day as he talked to her or showed her pictures of Elizabeth and Beth that he took. Then one day, as Noah was sitting by Quinn's bedside as Burt held Elizabeth. Noah says, "How did you do it, Mr. H? How did you sit by her bedside and not break down or yell at God? I don't know how much more of this I can take!" Soon Noah starts to sing a song that expressed how he felt.

Soon Rachel comes in with Jesse and Noah just stares at his daughter as he says, "I know what you are going to say Rachel and you're wrong I will never move on. I lost my best friend and I could lose Quinn. You got over Finn dying, if I lose Quinn. I don't know what I would do! I feel like she is gone already! It's been six goddamn months and she hasn't opened her eyes to see our daughter. I have been reading Liza Marie's Sleeping Beauty book to Quinn so many times I've lost count. Every time I leave her here it's like a bullet to my heart!"

Soon Noah breaks down and Burt says to Rachel, "Sorry, Rachel. I told Carole not to call you. I guess she thought you would help. I think you should just go." Rachel just puts her hand on Noah's shoulder and says, "She's strong." Before she just leaves.

By the time Quinn was in the coma for a year Burt was the only person Noah would let near him or Elizabeth when Noah was home from being overseas. General Young told him to take some time off so many times, but he wouldn't listen. Then on Elizabeth's first birthday Noah kisses Quinn on the lips and feels her kiss back. The doctors thought it was nothing, but to Noah it was hope.
