As lunch time came and Lena made no move to eat or stop working at all, Cass looked at the sheet of paper again, Lena gave to her. The schedule for today. Some of the phone calls had already been made, the next planned event was the meeting with mister Karte. But it was not for another two hours.

So, she stood and left the office as she done once earlier to use the bathroom. This time tough she went to Jess table as she did not want to disturb the clearly hardworking CEO again.

After the introductions have been made, she asked: "How is Miss Luther handling her lunch normally? Does she get something delivered or will she go out to eat?"

Jess looked her over once again, then she asked: "Why is this of your concern? I don´t want to be unfriendly, but I don´t see the point."

Cass smiled a little: "If she decides to go out, I would like to inform me about the place first. I have recently moved to National City and I am honest, I haven´t seen much of the city yet. If she gets something delivered, I would like to check that the food that arrives here is really what she ordered. I have seen to many people die from poison to not check out if her food is safe. And just out of normal human concern. Because sitting here all day and not eating something is not healthy."

Jess blinked a few times: "You think someone could poison her food. Someone from the restaurant?"

Cass answered honest: "Not really, I am more concerned about someone intercepting the courier and poisoning the food after it left the restaurant. That is why I want to check out that the person who left the restaurant is the same person arriving here. You understand?"

Jess accepted the explanation: "Ok. I will make sure to note that down and to get you the needed contact information. She forgets to eat sometimes, but I remind her when that happens. Sometimes Kara comes over with food. And otherwise, I order something for her. It is very unusual for her to eat out."

Cass smiled again: "Perfect, thanks Jess." After that she turned back into the office and sat down on the couch again.

Lena looked up and asked: "What was this talk about?"

The answer was simple: "Lunch."

Lena turned to look on the clock and said: "I didn´t realize it was already time."

She called Jess inside and ordered a salat. Then she asked Cass: "And what do you want? They have really good pizza as well."

Cass smiled slightly as she answered: "Maybe another time. I brought my lunch with me. I was not sure how this was going to work."

Lena accepted the answer like that and went back to work. When the delivery boy arrived, Cass intercepted him, just as he came out of the elevator. Those security cameras really proved to be practical.

The boy looked surprised but made no problems, when she called the restaurant and asked him some security questions. After that was dealt with, Jess tipped the irritated guy and sent him off.

Cass took the salat with her into Lena´s office and set it on the office table before the CEO. Lena sent her laptop into stand by modus and stood up as well. For a second Cass wondered what she was doing, but she noticed quickly what was going on. She followed Lena and took a seat next to her on the couch. Of course, with an appropriate distance. Pulling her own food, a small salat and a sandwich, out of her bag, she turned to the woman opposite her.

Lena asked in a bemused voice before she started to eat: "Was that poor guy really a threat for my security? He couldn´t been older than twenty."

Cass nearly rolled her eyes at that. Why did everyone ask her that? She repeated the question out loud as well and after she swallowed the salat that was in her mouth, Lena answered: "Do you really think that young boy would attack me or Jess? That would be beyond stupidity."

That caused Cass to sigh. They didn´t know better. And they will hopefully never know, in how many absurd ways people have already been assassinated. After repeating the same answer to Lena, that she had already given Jess, the CEO was silent for a minute. Not eating, just thinking.

After that she nodded: "You are right. As there have been so many failed attempts on my live already, people are bond to get creative. How do you think of things like that?"

Cass smile was probably more of a grimace than a real smile: "I simply know it. Do you really want to know the real reason? If you are sure I will tell you. You have the right to know who you are working with."

Lena looked at her serious face: "I will think about it. Maybe later. But tell me how you met Kara for the first time while I eat. If you want to."

Normally she was not one to confide in strangers, but as Kara trusted Lena, she could at least try to do the same. So, Cass started to tell her the story how she met 15-year-old Kara: "She was still in Highschool when I met her for the first time and had lost her only friend besides Alex. And she had just solved her first murder. I had moved to Midvale only a week ago and I was absolutely horrified about going to school there."

She had to laugh as she remembered how she hated school back then. Lena´s eyes never left her through the story, so she continued: "You know I was quite good at school. Too good actually, it was boring for me. And I hated those cliques that form at every Highschool, still do. Because of that I went to the least occupied table in the cafeteria at lunch and sat down without asking. Kara and Alex looked at me, completely in shock, that someone had sat down next to them. The whole school was mad at them for some things that happened before I arrived. I remember, Alex actually tried to warn me, that if I sat with them the others would avoid me like hell. And I said that´s perfect."

She smiled brightly: "The best decision I have ever made in my whole life. Never regretted it."

Lena laughed. She had a nice laugh, bright and happy. Still smiling she said: "I would pay a lot of money to see the expression on their faces when you gave them this answer."

Cass answered: "They probably thought I was crazy."

Both women laughed again, and Cass started eating as well. After another five minutes of pleasant silence, Lena was finished with her lunch and returned to her work.

Cass did the same with her book, after doing a round through the floor they were in. She also checked the balcony, but for now everything was silent. Ten minutes before Mister Karte was supposed to show up, a man made his way up in the elevator.

After warning Lena, that her appointment was early, she dumped her bag behind the couch out of sight. Jess welcomed the man outside and came in to announce him properly. Lena readied herself and nodded to Jess who went outside to inform the man, that he could enter now.

Cass scanned him quickly for any hidden weapons and allowed him entrance once he was cleared. Positioning herself right behind Lena, Cass took her stance watching every move the man made. After the introductions were made, he and Lena started to talk about the topic of her meeting quite quickly.

He obviously wanted to make a huge donation to the children hospital L Corp supported. He was a friendly man, but extremely strict. In return for the donation, he wanted to use the hospital for marketing purposes. After an hour of negotiations, they were both content with the results. A handshake sealed the deal and Jess saw the man out.

Finally, when he was in the elevator downwards Cass allowed herself to relax. Lena let out her breath and pulled her water bottle from under the table, directly starting to drink. As the man had turned down any refreshments, she had done the same.

Cass walked to the other side of the table and asked: "Are you happy with your compromise?"

Lena looked up and returned the question with one eyebrow raised: "Do you think I am happy?"

Taken by surprise, Cass answered after a second to gather her thoughts: "I think you are content with it, as he was a nice and not overly rich person, who wanted to do some marketing while aiding a good cause. But had he been an asshole or a billionaire, you would have bargained harder."

The second eyebrow rose as well, as Lena looked surprised by being analyzed so quickly: "You´re right. Where did you learn that? Figuring people out so fast?"

"My time with the army taught me many things. But I was always extremely interested in analyzing other people." That seemed to satisfy her, and Cass returned once again to the couch.

It was already late in the evening when Cass closed her book silently. She had finished it. After looking on her clock she was taken by surprise at the late hour. It was already 7 pm. No wonder she was through with her book. She had been reading for hours, just as Lena had been working non-stop. Both not realizing how fast the time went.

She set on watching the CEO work instead. She was typing into her laptop furiously, her eyes jumping from her screen to the stack of papers on her other side. Jess had already gone home over an hour ago, after asking Mrs. Luthor if she needed anything else.

After watching her work for a few minutes, Cass thought about the circumstances, that led to her sitting in this office all day. Protecting a woman, she knew next to nothing about. Driven by a sudden desire to have a bit more information about her new job and the previous attacks, she pulled out her phone and started a search.

The first things that opened were basic information. Like Lena being 26 and the CEO of L Corp, which had just recently changed its name from Luthor-Corp. Other information was not as easily categorized. There were headlines like: "Lex Luthor and Superman- mortal enemies?", "Luthor kills Aliens", "Luthor arrested for his crimes". And it did not stop there.

So many articles about Lena or her family. Now she really understood the need for a bodyguard for the first time. To be honest the amount of negative press shocked her. As she read on, she found a few sporadic articles about Lena that weren´t negative. She also found the articles Kara had written about her, that let her shine I different light than the rest of her family.

She looked up at Lena again only to find her looking right back at her. The CEO had closed her laptop and looked at her intensely, like she was trying to figure out a riddle.

Cass returned the gaze for a few seconds then decided to break it up by asking: "Are you finished with your work today?"

Lena´s answer was positive. After calling the car, which would be at the entrance of the building in five minutes, both women gathered their belongings in silence. Both thinking hard, but not wanting to ask the other one.

Cass followed Lena into the elevator and asked: "When should I come and get you tomorrow morning?"

Lena tried to stifle her yarn and decided: "7 am would be good. I have much to do tomorrow."

Cass simply agreed her mind still swirling with all the new information. She risked a short look into Lena´s direction, who was luckily too busy with her phone to notice.

The opinion she had gathered for herself was positive. Lena Luthor was fair, hardworking and collected. She really needed tonight to process all this new information and sort out what was real and which articles where merely gossip.

She sighed, that would be a long night. Once they reached the ground floor, she took her place right by Lena´s side and watched out for possible threats. There were none, at least not today.

When they reached the car, the driver was already holding the door open for Lena. When the door was closed behind her Cass entered the vehicle through the other door and sat down next to her. The short drive was spent once again in silence.

Once they reached their destination Cass walked around the car and opened her door for the CEO. For a short second she looked confused to see her and not her driver but after that she simply took the offered hand and exited the car.

They walked to her apartment building together where her guards for the night took over. They looked at each other and said at the same time: "Good night." That caused them both to laugh slightly. Lena vanished into her home and Cass turned on the spot to get to her own apartment for the night.
