3. Growing hatred
Adrien Agreste sighed heavily as he walked out to the garden. He hated mornings more than anything in the world. Well, daylight and noon were bad too. He chuckled at his negative thoughts, but when you are the only son of Minister Gabriel Agreste, every minute of public display becomes a torture. He did not understand how his childhood friends Chloe Bourgeois and Lila Rossi did it so good, how could they stand being perfect all the time?
Adrien messed his own golden hair and noticed that a few hairs fell down his head, like those of a cat. His mother used to call him her black cat, because of his fondness of walking and sneaking at night clothed in black. He used to love his nights in the woods, before his father imposed a curfew in town.
He walked on the garden to pay his respects to the grave of his mother, when he saw three men digging it open. The young man froze in his place for a few seconds, before an indescribable rage filled his body.
"What is the meaning of this?!"
The men quickly stopped what they were doing and greeted Adrien. He was of peaceful nature, but known a threat when he was enraged.
"I apologize, master Adrien, but we follow orders from Minister Agreste."
"My father? That cannot be…!"
"It is true, son."
Adrien turned around and saw his father, in his black clothes and putting on his gloves.
"Get out of their way, you are delaying them."
Adrien tried to swallow his anger and be respectful with his father.
"Why, for all that is holy, are you opening the grave of my mother?"
"Because I will have her buried in the church, where demons and devils cannot harm her."
His mouth gaped a couple of times.
"Harm her? She is dead! It was her last will to be always by our side!
"She will be, when we join her in the holy ground. Now, go. You must get to the Church and apologize to Father Damocles for my absence. Tell Madam Bourgeois and Madam Rossi that I cannot attend their lunch today."
Gabriel left him and Adrien did his best to shut all the fury inside.
I am not your servant, I am your son.
