The Passion of the Christman

Chapter 39
Since the days of old, when the ancient world was ruled by the supernatural creatures of myth, the Circle of the Fir Bolg existed, the treaty of the alliance of the clans was created to bring forth an age of peace. Yet, never did a day come where all tribes would agree to such a coexistence. Instead, each of the warring nations continued their conflict of blight and destruction hoping for one day that a true monarch would claim the mystical throne of the Danann and unite all the kingdoms as one.
Princess Maven of the Fae made her way down the hallway corridors to the Circle chambers. Attired in her dress made of moss, leaves, branches, and the strength of the Earth itself, she heard the footsteps of another coming from behind her.
"Stop, homo sapien!" She hissed at the human soldier dressed in black military fatigues.
Lieutenant Amos Rogers clutched his rifle, ran a gloved hand through his blond crew cut, and sneered at the dark-haired mythical creature with a sharp nose, pointed ears, and blackened eyes. Despite her exotic beauty, the mortal soldier kept his guard up when it came to supernaturals like her.
"Hold your horses," Amos warned. "I was invited by your kind."
Maven laughed. "My kind?" Her darkened eyes squinted in fury. "My kind only wants to rule. And you humans hold no purpose for us!"
Amos readied his weapon. "Then let's end this charade!" His finger steadied around the trigger as the Fae princess wiggled her fingers to conjure up her elemental magic.
A strong gale pushed the pair down to the stone ground as a mysterious figure appeared. Dressed in ancient robes and covered in a long cloak, the stranger pulled back her hood to reveal the powerful witch, Hennie Shellen.
"Enough!" Hennie shouted with authority. "This is a sacred place. No magic or weaponry is to be used in the Circle hall against one another or the other guests in attendance! There will be truce declared for now! Is that understood?"
Maven and Amos reluctantly agreed as they forced themselves up from the ground.
"Yes, mam," the soldier replied through gritted teen.
"So be it!" The Fae princess sneered. "However, witch, don't expect any miracles of a truce to continue!"
"I will have to disagree with you, Maven," Hennie answered her. "I do believe peace can be achieved with our clans."
Maven clucked her tongue. "Then you are a fool!"
With her long fingers, she gathered her skirts and marched toward the great hall to where the Circle was hosting their meeting.
Inside the center of Fir Bolg, the other representatives of the tribes waited patiently for the others. General Wallis of the werewolf clan stood next to his royal ward, Prince Christian Codex. On the other side of the table, Sherman Daniels, of the vampires took his place in the opposite direction. Their eyes scanned each other, meeting in secret, knowing full well that their connection can be discovered among their kind. They kept their composure as the rest of the group entered the room.
"What is the meaning of this?" Maven snarled. Her words dripped with hatred. "I'm offended you even invited a human to our meeting."
Amos held his rifle tightly. "Likewise. You're lucky I don't start firing on you all and ending the plague you created."
"Plague?" General Wallis scoffed; his eyes glowing yellow. "Remember your place, mortal! You are here at the behest of our clan royals. I suggest you keep that hateful tone of yours to yourself."
"Wallis!" Christian raised his hand. "There is no need for that. Lieutenant Amos Rogers is here as a guest and deserves his place within the Circle of the Fir Bolg."
Sherman agreed. "Christian is right. Without him, we won't be able to come up with a truce with the human factions."
"Truce!" Maven cackled; her eyes glowing black. She raised her hands. "I'll show the kind of truce that really matters!"
The hall shook. The ground quaked as dozens of tendrils of plants broke from the earth. The group stepped back as the threatening vines came toward them.
"Ignartium Retreitus!" Hennie's voice vibrated through the chamber. Instantly as they sprouted, the vines reverted to their original place in the earth. Maven scowled as Hennie shot her a disapproving grin. "You might be a powerful faerie, Maven, but remember I am the sorceress supreme of my kind with untold access to all magicks! Send another threat like that and I will happily transmogrify you into the toad that you are!"
Maven welcomed the challenge and balled her fists. "Bring it, witch!"
"THAT WILL BE QUITE ENOUGH!" Christian roared. His lycanthropic voice howled all around the hall. Bearing his fangs and yellow, glowing eyes, he snarled at the other trio.
Sherman did the same, but his eyes differed in blood red as his incisors protruded from him mouth. He too hissed at the human, fairie, and witch as form of understanding that their veiled threats would not be tolerated in here.
"The wolf prince is correct," the vampire declared. "No more killing. Don't you see that the centuries of war our tribes have created have brought us nothing but endless pain and misery. This eternal battle and warring have only created a division, and no one has been able to sit on the Throne of the Danann to unite all the kingdoms! This must end now!"
Ever so courageous, General Wallis nodded his head. "The vampire prince has a point. The hell demons are invading this world and if we are to defeat them, we must be a unified group and stand as one to rid ourselves of this plague of incoming demon spawns."
"We won't be able to eradicate the hell demons if we're constantly at odds," Christian added. "I called forth this meeting hoping to come up with a resolution where we can compromise and come together as allies, and hopefully, friends."
"That is all well and good, Prince Christian," Lieutenant Rogers stated. "But the human faction will not listen to reason. I'm only one man, a soldier, and even my desire for peace will not sway my people to feel or do the same. I'm afraid that the humans won't side with you in this war."
"Nor the Fae!" Maven announced. "We will not taint our traditions or our culture by allying ourselves with the humans or…" She glared at Christian and Sherman. "The likes of the abomination of you filthy mongrels! This meeting is pointless! We'll deal with the demons ourselves!" Turning on her heels, she stalked out of the chamber.
"I'm afraid the fairie is right," Amos said sadly. "Humanity is not open minded as you want to believe. We will exterminate these hell demons, so I suggest you monsters lay low and don't interfere." He left the chamber but not offering his final warning.
Hennie folded her arms and turned to Christian. "I'm sorry, my wolf prince. Unfortunately, you can't enforce a likely truce when the other clans are at odds."
"I do commend your intention, your majesty," General Wallis agreed with the witch. "However, your efforts would be best suited eradicating the hell demons as the main priority."
"Do not worry, Christian," Sherman reassured him. "You have the allegiance of the vampire clan at least beside you in this fight."
Thank you, Sherman," the wolf prince replied. "You truly are a good friend."
"I think it best that you two come up with a strategy to minimize the casualties of what is to come," Hennie advised. Spinning on her heels, she allowed the fabric of her dress to sway around her as she exited the hall, leaving only the Wallis and the two monarchs to discuss wartime affairs.
General Wallis," Sherman gestured to the lycanthrope warrior. "Send word to my own blood generals that you wish to devise possible strategies in battle to deal with the hell monster problem. Let them know that it is at my behest if there is any opposition."
"Of course, my liege," Wallis nodded. He too exited the chamber, which left only the two secretive lovers to talk about their current predicament.
"That didn't go according to plan I'm afraid," Christian noted. "I would have hoped we could finally end this ridiculous war."
Sherman grinned. "Not so easy, Christian. You cannot expect centuries of animosity be lifted for a common cause. Our tribes are more stubborn that you realize."
Christian exhaled. "I still hold out hope."
Sherman reached over to touch his face. "And that is why I love you for it."
Before they each knew it, their lips met. The long, hunger of their desire finally satisfied at this moment as their teeth, tongues, and mouths explored fully this deepened kiss. Getting just a taste of his lover, Sherman pushed Christian against the chamber table, allowing him to position himself seated up as the vampire gripped the werewolf's button up shirt and ripped it open.
Now shirtless and exposed, Sherman knelt, planting a kiss across the wolf prince's naked chest as his tongue traced the grooves of Christian's pecs, the hard ridges of his flat abdomen until he found the love trail that led down from the young man's navel.
With nimble fingers, Sherman's unbuckled Christian's belt buckle, opened the button of the lycanthrope's jeans as the sound of zipper lowering sprang forth something that the vampire royal wanted to sample. He found it and lowered his head to…
"Mr. Dunbar, we'll be ready for you in about forty-five minutes."
The production assistant woke up Liam from reading the risqué fanfiction on his phone. Damn, just when it was getting good. He sighed as he sat in his chair while he watched the crew set up the sound and the lights as the set designers put the last finishing touches to the set.
His agent, Lydia Martin, got him the lucky offer for a national television commercial for Progressive Farm Insurance, an affordable insurance carrier that offered great rates on coverage from health, auto, home, and life insurance policies. Dressed in a humorous red jumpsuit that is sure to grab the attention of viewers, Liam easily memorized his lines and all the policies and procedures he had spout off for the company as he returned to his phone to read the insane comments concerning the latest Christman fanfic by BH 90210.

You know you can make 10K in only a week? Here's how…
Okay, the last one was SPAM but reading the insane feedback made his day. It got him off considering Theo Raeken's offer to meet up next weekend. Face it, this is a random hookup, something that he never would consider. Certainly, the actor was hot and there were plenty of men, and ladies of course, who would not mind a shot sleeping with him. However, Liam was nothing like his ex, Brett, who felt the need to jump from one guy to the next without any consequence or repercussions. He was a good boy, always choosing the straight and narrow path.
Maybe that was the problem.
"Okay, Mr. Dunbar, the director is ready to shoot." The production assistant informed him.
"I'll be right there," Liam smiled. He slipped his phone inside the pocket of his jumpsuit and prepared for the expected twelve-hour shooting schedule.
Theo Raeken would have to wait.
Laying comfortably against the couch, Liam observed the décor of his therapist, Dr. Victoria Mays. Her office displayed a nice array of international art and décor, which reflected the woman's hobby of traveling and collecting unique, indigenous artifacts. He made a mental note to maybe incorporate some of that aesthetic to the bungalow he shared with Hayden.
"All right, Liam," Dr. Victoria smiled in her stylish power suit and designer heels as she sat in her swiveling desk chair. "You haven't seen me in a while. Everything good?"
"Everything's great, Doc," he answered. "My career is doing well. I'm getting some acting gigs and I haven't had an episode, not counting what happened six months ago."
Dr. Victoria grinned. "That's wonderful to hear. What about the dosage of Docilein? The doctor recommended that you take only one a week to deal with your IED. Have you been following the rules of your medication?"
Liam nodded. "Of course, Doc. I'm not a pill popper. I only take it when necessary." He was referring to his mental health issue of Intermittent Explosive Disorder or IED, a behavioral disorder of explosive anger or rage causing fits of uncontrollable fury where the person has no control over their impulsivity and later relieved from a feeling of remorse. This was something that Liam struggled with all through his life and what he dealt with.
"No other episodes?" Dr. Victoria probed.
"No episodes, Doc," Liam explained. "I've been following a steady regiment of staying healthy, a good diet, and practicing mediation as you suggested. It's been going really well."
His therapist smiled. "That's news I like to hear. If you stay focused and don't get too stressed out, you are able to calm your body down and allow your serotonin levels to diminish all the aggressors in your brain to act out like you did six months ago."
Liam shrugged. "Can you blame me? I mean I caught my ex-boyfriend of seven years cheating on me by drilling some random dude on the dining room table of our home. I just snapped."
"That still doesn't make it right," Dr. Victoria pointed out. "In that moment, all your anxiety and pain built up to the point you blacked out during your episodes and nearly try to kill both your ex, Brett, and the person he was with."
"Yeah, I feel bad about that," Liam replied. "I did apologize though after the incident."
Victoria curled her mouth. "Was that before, during or after you broke the nose of your ex's lover or attempted to put a chokehold on Brett?"
Liam frowned. "It's not like they didn't have it coming." He paused. "I simply don't remember until Hayden pulled me away from them."
"And there lies the problem," his therapist explained. "I've been treating you since you were eighteen and finished working on that soap opera, Restless Lives. You've struggled with IED all your life but manage to get it under control, though a few slip ups now and again. I realize that you were born as a drug addicted infant and with the trauma of that maybe caused a brain chemistry malfunction which triggers your disorder, but you keep all together with the help of medication and therapy. This last episode nearly got you arrested for assault and battery. You're lucky the ex and this random person didn't press charges."
Liam sighed. "I know. I guess I still have some more work to do."
Dr. Victoria smiled. "There is always work to do, Liam. You just got to do better." She folded her hands in lap. "The good news is that you're being positive and that's a good thing. You have a rising career in something that you love. You have friends and family who love you. More importantly, you're using the tools to deal with your disorder. I say you're making great strides."
He sat up on the couch and snickered. "I guess I'm cured then."
His therapist rolled her eyes. "Don't get too cocky, Liam. There is no cure for IEP, but I think the moment you learn to deal with all the stressors and anxieties in a positive manner, then you truly can learn to work on yourself and live life to the fullest."
"Yeah, I guess," he answered meekly.
"Guessing is not an option," she advised. "Continue to follow this positive regiment you got going for yourself and you get this disorder under the control. From my diagnosis, you seem to be much better, and this rare outburst certainly was justifiable. I'm sure anyone would have seen red if they caught their partner In flagrante delicto in an ultimate act of betrayal. That is why I'm suggesting that you cut down on the Docilein to one pill a week as a way of weaning you off the medication."
Liam lifted his brows. "Do you think that is wise? I might have another episode."
Dr. Victoria stared at him. "Do you believe that you're going to have another episode? Do you believe that you will have no control over your own impulsivity? Liam, do you believe all that hard work you put in all this time is going to be detrimental?"
Liam shook his head.
"Then, I suggest finding your own voice and really building back that confidence," she advised. "Go out, hang with friends, start dating again, really put yourself out there and don't be afraid that you're going to have a setback. Let this be beginning of something wonderful and positive. Can you do that, Liam?"
Shyly, he nodded.
"Good," Dr. Victoria smiled. "I think our session is finish here. Make sure to set up an appointment in the next few months to see if the change in prescription and your regiment has really kept that IED of yours in check."
Liam agreed and left her office.
The next few days breezed by quickly. Lydia sent him on a few auditions while Hayden became busy with starting rehearsals for the touring company of Oz: The Great and Powerful musical. Since their schedules occurred well late into the night, they rarely saw each other.
As promised, Liam packed a weekend bag of clothes to visit his parents in San Diego. Leaving a note for Hayden that he would be out of town for a few days, he made the two-hour drive back to his hometown of Rancho La Jolla county and took in the many changes he has seen in the community as more residential and commercial properties were being built and developers were discovering more available land to use as real estate.
Established around the 1862's Homestead Act in the inland valley of California, ambitious settlers began migrating west and established settlements along the rivers and lakes of what is now Rancho La Jolla. Having moderate success in cattle raising and agriculture, the tiny rural county of San Diego proved to be successful in cultivating fertile soil and continued to prove prosperous into the next century. Since then, the rural county has seen a growing population of suburban residences and companies building warehouses within its industrialized area. Thus, many families began moving into the location, establishing a small-town community, and high testing educational system within its school district that attracted new residents.
The Geyer family happened to be one such demographic. After Liam's birth and adoption in Detroit, Dr. Geyer and his wife, Satomi, found a specialist in southern California that handled drug addicted infants with special disorder traumas. Liam's initial two years of being diagnosed with IEP were crucial so the family moved to San Diego to start therapy and treatment. Todd Geyer found a job as a lead heart specialist for one of Pfeizer-Sharpner's hospitals while Satomi retired from nursing to become a stay-at-home mom during the first five years of Liam's life.
Though it was not easy as Liam struggled with his disorder, he learned to get better control over his impulses and anger with therapy and medication. Plus, the California air did him some good as he grew to be a stable, well-adjusted kid for the most part. Eventually, Satomi opened a local popular Japanese restaurant Satomi-Ito, which continues to flourish over the years as Liam got the opportunity to experience his mom's international, cultural food while coming into his own as a good kid.
Liam's car pulled into the driveway of his family home that remained near the cul-de-sac of the neighborhood as his father, Todd, and mother, Satomi, ran out to welcome him.
"My little apple is home!" Satomi beamed as she ran and embraced her son, nearly knocking his overnight gym bag of clothes in his hand.
"Hi Mom," Liam blushed. "It's good to see you too!" He winced as her mother hugged him a little too hard but knowing her, he appreciated how overprotective she was. Satomi finally released him to allow Todd to greet their son too.
"Hey, son," Todd embraced his son. "Hope the traffic wasn't too bad coming down."
"Thanks, Dad," Liam smiled. "I live in L. A. now. Gridlock traffic usually is.
"Come in and get settled," Satomi told her boy. She grabbed his gym bag and scowled. "Only a few clothes. You'll have nothing to wear!"
"Mom, I'm only staying for the weekend." Liam explained. "I got to get back Monday for work."
"Nonsense!" Satomi clucked. "You should always pack a little more in case of an emergency. Remember what I taught you!"
His father intervened. "Just humor your mother, Liam. You know how she is like a lioness when it comes to her baby!"
"Of course, Mom," groaned Liam. "I promise the next time I come to visit that I'll pack two suitcases worth."
Satomi pinched his cheek. "That's my little apple! Now get settled, clean up and come eat. I cooked some pot stickers and some stir fry yakisoba!"
He followed his parents inside to the wonderful scent of yummy cooking. He missed that when he moved out on his own to Los Angeles. Hayden and he were decent microwave, boiling instant noodle types so having food made from scratch was a treat. At least, this weekend he would get a homecooked meal.
Watching his mother drop off his gym bag by the door, Liam entered his old bedroom and began to unpack. He took in his childhood sanctuary watching the Mard-Cavel and CDC Universal comic book posters adorning his walls of their superhero properties like The Freedom Champions or The Guardian Defenders. He had action figures on his shelf like The Atlantean, Manticore, and The Statesman. Sports banners and memorabilia decorated the rest of the room of his and his father's favorite San Diego's teams like the Padres and the NFL Chargers. Unfortunately, the Chargers got sold to L. A. recently and the backlash has not garnered much support from the city fans. Liam took a mental note to take down their logo before the weekend was through.
He finished unpacking, washed up and joined his parents for lunch. Seated at dining room table with a plate of noodles and pot stickers, Liam grabbed a pair of chopsticks and popped a dumpling into his mouth.
"So, my little apple," his mother began. Usually, when Satomi began using this phrase it meant that she wanted to probe into all details of his life.
"All right, Mom," Liam giggled. "Let me give you for the update. I booked a national commercial with Progressive-Farm Insurance and it should be airing next week. I'm going back to film the second one which releases in a few weeks."
Satomi clapped her hands. "That's wonderful. I'm happy to see you're still booking work after Restless Lives."
"Honey," Todd interjected. "Our son is an adult actor now. It's a career path that we supported ever since he started acting at age ten. M&M, Inc. and his agent, Lydia, is doing great finding him work, especially in this business. Let's just be grateful for that."
Satomi exhaled. "You can't blame a mother for being concerned." She smiled at Liam. "I only want what's best for you. I do worry, you know. Is my son sleeping enough? Is he eating right? Is he financially secure? Is he healthy? You can't fault me for being concerned."
Liam put his hand on top of hers to reassure her. "I'm fine, Mom. You and Dad taught me to be independent and to save my pennies. You don't have to worry about me. I'm fine."
"Are you still seeing this Dr. Mays?" His father asked. "I hear she comes highly recommended."
"Absolutely," Liam nodded. "She recommended I decrease my Docilein dosage even after that slight episode. She believes that I have full control over my IEP."
Satomi tossed her chopsticks down. "Don't get me started on that meltdown! That bastard, Brett, deserved it! Nobody died and you stopped by yourself from doing something drastic!"
Todd sighed. "Now, honey. I think assault and battery was a little over the top. Even if that asshole, Brett, did deserve that beatdown, we're lucky no one pressed charges."
Satomi frowned. "Plus, who cheats on someone as our handsome son?" She reached over to pinch Liam's cheek. "He doesn't know what he's missing." She shrugged. "Oh well, his loss."
"Mom!" Liam protested as he gently shooed away her hand. "I'm fine. Yes, I made a mistake with Brett but that's all part of learning about love and relationships. I have to fall to get back up."
His father raised an eyebrow. "Does that mean you've started dating again?"
Liam lowered his eyes in embarrassment. "I'm…busy." He mumbled. "Look, I promise you I'm keeping my options open but right now I just need some time to heal after a breakup."
With glee, Satomi leaned over, hugged, and kissed her son on the cheek. "I'm so proud of you! You're not going to let that jerk, Brett, from going out and there and finding love again! You'll meet a nice boy, fall in love, let us meet him, and then you'll get married and adopt some grandbabies…"
"Whoa, Mom!" Liam stopped. "Let's not jump the gun here! I'm talking about keeping my options open concerning dating. I wouldn't get that ambitious yet!"
"Honey," Todd Geyer jumped in. "Let's not rush the boy. He's still fresh on the market. Give, Liam, a chance to get his bearings before…"
Satomi scoffed. "Maybe it'll be sooner than that."
Her comment made Liam suspicious. When Satomi Ito-Geyer made a cryptic remark, it always meant a hidden agenda.
"Mom, what did you?" He interrogated her.
"Nothing," she answered with a smirk. "It's just…"
Liam eyes widened.
"It's just that a nice, older lesbian couple moved in next door and their son lives with them who happens to be your age and is premed…"
Todd Geyer's mouth dropped. "Honey, you didn't.
Satomi continued. "And since you're single and he's single that I would invite them over for dinner tonight since they loved the food at my restaurant, and I offered a homecooked meal for them to welcome them to the neighborhood…"
"And to pimp me out?" Liam groaned sarcastically.
His mother gently slapped the back of his head. "Don't be disgusting! I'm merely trying to find you a new boyfriend who is nothing like that jerkoff, Brett! Give your mother a little credit!"
"Honey," her husband added. "I know we've always been supportive of our son and proud of the man he's become but we really shouldn't interfere in his love life."
"And risk him being a single spinster?" His wife scowled. "Not on my watch! He's going to see this nice family tonight and meet this nice young man! My matchmaking skills have never failed me!"
"That's because you've never had any matchmaking skills," Liam pointed out.
"Not yet anyway," Satomi answered. "That might change tonight!"
Liam mouthed a silent Help Me to his father who shrugged helplessly.
Tonight's dinner was certainly going to be an event.
It took several days for Theo to absorb the shocking news of his costar and friend, Isaac Lahey, leaving the show. Then the revelation of making his character, Christian Codex, sexually fluid and having a potential male love interest next season. The information hit him hard. Sure, he can play roles that require him to play characters who are of exploring their sexuality and gender but presenting himself in a way that reflected a side of himself he chose to remain hidden in the public eye had been too much. He was not sure he could do it.
Lounging on the couch of his condo, he stalked through Photogram again and remembered the PM that Violet had sent to that actor, Liam Dunbar. So far, no messages. He went to his texts to also see no new responses from him. Nothing, except for the agreement to meet-up next weekend. He pondered whether to text him before his phone rang.
It was his mother.
"Hello?"
"Theodore, it's me."
The last thing he wanted was to talk to his absentee biological egg donor.
"What do you want?" Theo's voice dripped with hostility. "Aren't you busy with your socialite friends in New York?"
Theo's mother, supermodel Jennifer Blake, had been married to her children's father, the rocker Deucalion Raeken, who died of a drug overdose when he was two, leaving behind a son and disabled daughter. Realizing that she had to work to support her family, Jennifer hired nannies to raise her brood while she worked internationally. Now married to the oil tycoon, Ewing Jere, she financially supported her children living in California while keeping their relationship estranged. It was rare that she kept contact.
A pause on the line. "I deserve that. I know we haven't been close but…"
"I sorry, Mom," Theo interrupted her. "But I'm busy with work. We can reschedule for another time."
"Theo…"
He pressed the end call button.
Angry, he pushed all thoughts about Jennifer Blake out of his mind. He needed an outlet right now to take out all his frustrations and a hook-up was the perfect thing at this moment. Then his thoughts returned to Liam. Pulling up Google, he typed in Liam Dunbar in the search engine as images and a Wiki-info came up.
He read the article.
Liam Dunbar (Geyer) is a twenty-five-year-old American actor best known for his Daytime Soap Nomination for the role of Galen Pembroke on the serial Restless Lives when he was cast at the age of twelve. He left the show at 18 to pursue other roles.
Born Liam Dunbar Geyer in Detroit, Michigan. He was adopted by Dr. Todd Geyer, an African American heart specialist, and his wife, Satomi Ito, who is of Japanese American descent. When Liam was two, the family moved to San Diego, California where he was raised. While performing in a local community children's theatre production of Oliver at the age of ten, Natalie Martin of M&M, Inc., noticed him and signed him as one of their child actor divisions.
Since then, Liam has appeared in numerous commercials including ads for 501 Denim Jeans, Toys Only Us, and Wally World. He got his first television break appearing as an ensemble cast member of Cinemascope Kids Network's sitcom Class Dismissed, playing the brainy Mortimer Miles, which last only one season. Since then, he has made guest appearances in television shows like Legal System, Nuclear Family, and Melarosa's Place.
Theo stopped reading. He had more than information to impress this guy and certainly this Liam Dunbar's boyish good looks made quite an impression on him. He decided to give it a chance and began typing out on his phone.
The text read:
Hey, we're still on for next weekend?
