Part 4

A few weeks later Amy returned back home to her cottage near the edge of the woods, she loved Sally and how much of a protective big sister she was for her. As much as Sally wanted Amy to stay as long as she needed Amy knew if she didn't stand on her own two feet then she'll never will. Princess Sally was reluctant to let Amy be alone but in end told her she was just a call away if she needed her, with one last hug Amy returned home as she started cleaning to keep her occupied.

There was niggling in the back of Amy's mind that wouldn't leave her, it was when she missed her second menstruation that she knew in her heart. A part of Amy wished that she had missed a period because of stress, but as she seen the two lines there was no denying it. Amy Rose was with child and the problem she had was if she wanted to keep the baby, placing a hand to her flat stomach praying for a sign in what she needed to do. Prayers must have been heard as her messenger knocked on the door and standing there was Shadow the Hedgehog checking in on her, through the visit drinking tea Shadow noticed how Amy absently placed her hand over her stomach like she was protecting something precious.

This didn't take a genius to figure it out and there was no point denying anything as Amy told Shadow everything and wasn't sure she wanted to keep the baby, Shadow knew in his heart that Amy would make a great mother, but she wasn't ready and whatever she decided he would support her.

For the next few weeks after making her decision Amy was in the Clinic ready to sign papers for the procedure, her hands started shaking as she tried to put pen onto paper to sign her child... no embryo that hasn't took a breath. So why did she feel like she was going to destroy a part of her; the kind nurse Daisy Lynn walked over to the distraught female hedgehog asking if there was anything she could do for her patient. "Yes can you direct me to a phone," Nurse Daisy smiled sweetly as she took the young female to one of the rooms to be alone so she could privately make a call.

Less than an thirty minutes Nurses heads turned to see black and red stripped Hedgehog that everyone knew to be Hero that saved Mobius from the Ark suited up in G.U.N. uniform. Most of the females were drooling and not once did he noticed as he demanded which room Miss Rose was in- it didn't take long as he entered the room and held Amy sobbing that she couldn't go through with it. "My little rose, you're not doing this alone. You'll have your friends that will help you through everything," 'including me' was silently said promising his girl he would be there for her even if the baby was Faker's.

Telling the team was the hardest thing Amy had to face and didn't know how everyone would react to the news that she was pregnant with Sonic's baby, Rouge didn't care one way or the other as it was Amy's body and her decision as Knuckles was a different matter as he believed that she was too young to be a mother. Cream didn't know what to say, but Vanilla took over and hugged the mother to be telling her that she would be there for advice in what to expect with each step of the way.

Sally and Tails both agreed that Sonic should know about his child even if he wanted to be in its life or not, that night as everyone left for home Tails and Princess Sally tried to get in contact with the Blue Blur and each time there was no answer. It was during Amy's seven month came to past that the pair gave up looking for Sonic- a part of Amy wanted Sonic to be there for her, but after awhile she lost all hope of Sonic coming back and instead put all of her attention on her baby.

Through the ordeal Shadow had been there for Amy and was there when Amy had her first ultrasound, it was something amazing for Shadow hearing that rapid little heartbeat who was fascinated with the small creature on the screen, he was there in some of the classes as her birth partner and when on missions Vanilla or Sally would be there to help. Many of the pregnant Mobians asked if Shadow was the father and many times the pink hedgehog answered the negative and that Shadow was her baby's Godfather as there was no one better for that role.

It angered Shadow when he heard this and Amy being emotional began sobbing as headed to her room in tears, before Amy could enter her bedroom Shadow was behind her wrapping his arms around Amy's stomach feeling the kicks there inside the womb.

"Amy, please don't cry my rose... when I say I don't want to be just the kid's Godfather what I meant to say it I want to be it's father."

Amy looked at Shadow in confusion, he didn't mean what he said did he? Its true she was losing her love for Sonic and slowly having feelings for Shadow, did this mean Shadow had feelings for her...No that was silly and it was Rouge's way of teasing her, there were prettier and better girls out in Mobius and there were many that threw themselves at him or flirted outrageously with him. The idea of Shadow being with her was just a pipe dream, it wouldn't be fair for Shadow to take the role of daddy when not even Sonic wanted to be in the kid's life.

"Why Shadow? Why do you wa..."-

"Because I love you Amy, yes I know Faker's the father but that doesn't mean I would love the child less as he or she has a beautiful part and that part is you."

There was tears in Amy's emerald green eyes that were now filled with joy, turning around to face Shadow she happily smiled and told him she loved him too. There was nothing else to say as Shadow slowly leaned in silently asking if he could kiss her- Amy's answer was to gently cup Shadow's face in her hands and pulled him in for a kiss.

The last six weeks were hectic with getting the baby's Nursery ready as well as Shadow moving in Amy's house to be close to her and the little one.

On the 25th of June Cobalt Gerald the Hedgehog was born named after both Shadow and Amy's fathers, the doctor wrapped the baby in blankets after cutting the umbilical cord and placed the boy into Shadow's awaiting arms as they cleaned the mother of the afterbirth. Shadow was expecting a miniature version of Sonic, what he didn't expect was to look into the same coloured eyes of Amy. Cobalt was deeper shade of blue to Sonic, but he had the same three quills that grew in the front just like his mother's. Cobalt yawned tiredly and closed his eyes grabbing Shadow's thumb wrapping the Ultimate Lifeform around his little finger.

Amy looked at the two most important people in her life interact with each other, she had seen the look of awe on Shadow's face with every kick he felt against his hands or looking at ultrasound pictures. Now the look on Shadow's face was a fatherly one filled with so much pride, "ok Daddy. I think Mommy wants to hold the baby now," Doctor Patrick Wolf was ready to take the baby from Shadow's arms when the black and red stripped hedgehog growled in warning making the Doctor back off real quick. Amy just giggled to herself as Shadow gently placed Cobalt into his mother's arms, one of the nurses took a picture of the new family before giving the new parents a few minutes with their son.

A few days later Amy returned home where everyone came to visit and meet the new member of the family, Knuckles and Rouge were too scared to hold such a tiny thing but as soon as Cobalt was the Bat's arms Rouge was a bit reluctant to let him go. Each person held Cobalt and Tails was the last to hold his Nephew when suddenly his blue eyes welled up with tears when Amy and Shadow both agreed that the two-tailed fox would be their son's Godfather and Sally Acorn as Godmother.

By the end of the evening as everyone left for home leaving the new family alone, Amy and Shadow watched over Cobalt as he slept in his crib both counting their blessings that they came into each others lives. While Amy was happily thinking about her son and boyfriend Shadow on the other hand wished that Sonic didn't come back and take away his only happiness.
