"For the crime of Greed do these souls suffer. Those clerks asquint of mind made no measured spending in life. And by contrast, in these Popes and Cardinals, greed practiced its excess." – Virgil
Dean and Tessa had been walking for a while when they entered another great hall. Dean saw a giant wheel of fortune on the wall opposite to them and immediately knew the circle he was in. Greed. What the challenge was going to be, he didn't know, but he knew he had to show restraint.
Under the wheel was a man. Tessa introduced him as Plutus, the God of Wealth, and motioned for Dean to walk up to him. Dean did as he was told and stood in front of Plutus, waiting for the challenge to begin.
Plutus snapped his fingers (Dean thought that they should really find a different way to do this) and the floor around them was covered in gold, money and precious stones. Dean's eyes widen, thinking that all that wealth could do some good to so many people.
Dean heard Plutus talk, but was so lost in thought that he didn't understand the question. Asking Plutus to repeat his question, Plutus nodded and asked him if he had all that wealth, what would he do with it.
Dean knew exactly what to answer, it wasn't that difficult. During all the years he had been a hunter, he had seen more than his fair share of people struggling to make ends meet. Hell, he and his brother were some of those people before the MOL came around. So, yes, Dean knew exactly what to answer.
He looked at Plutus and told him that he would give it all to charity. He knew many wasn't as lucky as he was to have a roof over their heads, so with all that wealth he would just give it all away. Plutus was clearly pleased with the answer because suddenly all the gold, money and precious stones had disappeared.
Nodding his head, Plutus told Dean that he had passed the challenge by being charitable and that he could go on to the next circle. Dean smiled and saw Plutus bowing his head before disappearing. Dean walked back to Tessa.
Making their way to the next circle, Dean couldn't help but think on how he had gotten there in the first place. He had tried asking Tessa, but she never gave him a straight answer. Thinking that he had bigger problems than how he had gotten there, he started going through the circles again mentally and thinking of any possible ways things could go within each circle.
He wasn't sure what to expect, but nothing that he had thought so far had prepared him for what was coming.
