In the week following Charlotte's arrival, the other exhibits had gotten used to seeing her around the museum. But one night found Charlotte pacing around the downstairs storage units in a state of clear frustration. Napoleon was watching her passively as he sat on an empty crate, head turning each time she turned around and went back to her starting point. He had become as dear a friend to her as Amelia had but this whole thing was making him feel on edge; not that there was any danger but just the way she was pacing back and forth made every nerve in his body tense and coil like a spring. He felt annoyed, not at her of course but at himself because he couldn't help her. "What is bothering you?" He asked, Charlotte stopped her pacing to look at him.
"It's nothing." She said, Napoleon fought back a snort.
"You have been pacing for almost an hour. Something is clearly upsetting you." He said. "Please, tell me what it is." Charlotte sighed and stared at the floor.
"I miss being able to go outside," she said quietly. "I miss seeing the stars every night." Napoleon bit his lower lip. This certainly explained her odd behavior, cabin fever seemed to be setting in. But in learning what was upsetting her, it posed another question, what could be done to help her? Then an idea started to form. Napoleon jumped down from the crate and said,
"Please excuse me for a moment Mademoiselle, I have to meet with Al. But tomorrow, meet me upstairs; I think this might help you very much." Charlotte nodded. Napoleon made his way to the open area of the storage unit where Al and his buddies were gambling. "Al, could I speak with you a moment?" Napoleon called, Al looked up and nodded. He stood from his chair; ashoring the others he would be back and walked over to Napoleon.
"What trouble's ya shorty?" Al asked brightly. Napoleon ignored the nickname and said,
"Do you remember when you and your men found the door to the roof was easily picked?"
"Yeah," Said Al. "What about it?"
"Is the door still unlocked?"
"I think it would be," said Al. "You know no one goes up there during the day." Napoleon nodded.
"Good." He said, starting to walk away when Al grabbed his shoulder.
"Whatcha up to?" He asked. Napoleon looked from Al's face to the hand on his shoulder and back again. Al took the hint and removed his hand from the general's shoulder.
"Thank you," said Napoleon, "and to answer your question, I think I have found a way to help a dear friend."
The next night; Charlotte was waiting with Amelia for Napoleon. Charlotte turned to Amelia and asked, "Do you have any idea what he has planned?" Amelia shook her head.
"But whatever this, I don't think he would do anything to hurt you." Then Napoleon appeared, walked over to the two women and took Charlotte's hand gently in his own.
"Are you ready?" He asked, Charlotte nodded, trying to suppress her giggles of anticipation.
"Have fun you two." Said Amelia as the general lead Charlotte gently by the hand.
