(Immediately following when he left the Gaang) After a day riding on Appa Aang had arrived at the Southern Water Tribe. When he landed he was greeted by Chief Hakoda and another man. "Welcome back Aang." Aang smiled as he hopped down from Appa "Hi Hakoda." "Allow me to introduce you to Tau. He is the son of one of my closest friends. " Hakoda motioned Tau to come forward. The man looked in his 30s. Tau extended his hand to Aang's "It is an honor to meet you Avatar Aang." Aang smiled and shook Tau's hand, "Likewise." "Now that we all know each other let's head to town hall." The three walked to the town hall entrance. Once they entered the place was full of grown men including Master Pakku.
Pakku turned around and walked toward Aang. "Good to see you Avatar, long time no see." Aang bowed to his teacher "It's great to see you too Master Pakku." "How is your training with your Sifu Katara going?" This grabbed Tau's attention his eyes widened. "Avatar you know Hakoda's daughter?" "Yeah," Aang said with a confused face. Hakoda nudged Tau. Pakku was confused as well "Well we should sit down." While walking to the meeting Aang spoke "Pakku what was all that about with Hakoda and Tau." Paaku responded "I'm not sure young Avatar. But earlier when we were scheduling this meeting Tau insisted that Sokka and Katara not be invited." This statement confused Aang. They arrived at the meeting room. During the meeting Aang mostly just sat and listened. After two hours Hakoda issued a lunch break. During the break Tau sat next to Aang. "So are you close with Hakoda's daughter?" Aang was confused by the question "Yeah. Do you know her?" Tau was about to respond and then Hakoda approached them. "The meeting has concluded early." "Why?" Asked Aang. Hakoda responded " A few generals have recently come down with an illness, so we ended it to prevent the spread. Unfortunately this means you must stay here another week or at least until the generals are ready to continue." Aang sighed.
Hakoda left again to inform the others about the sudden change of plans. Tau grabbed the Avatar's shoulder "Did she ever tell you about a girl named Raya?" Aang shook his head. "8 years ago. Katara was very close to my sister Raya. Raya was a waterbender. She was talented for her age of 10, and was beloved by everyone . She was skilled enough to know how to protect herself from invaders but not from her own best friend. One morning the two girls went to to spar against each other at White Lake. Hours later I came to retrieve my sister Raya. What I found when i arrived was my sister dead with katara standing next to her." Aang gasped and was shocked about this story "Are you telling me Katara Hakoda's daughter killed your sister?" Tau nodded with a blank expression this angered Aang "Ok you are crazy. How dare you suggest Katara would do that especially with you being a friend of Hakoda's. I knew something was up with you. Since you lie about Katara, then you most likely lied your way to power. I will expose you to the council." Tau shook his head slowly "You might not want to believe this but all I speak is truth. All the Southern water tribe knows of her evil. Ask her yourself if you don't believe me. Haven't you ever wondered why she never tells you what her life was like before meeting you? Why she gave up her homeland to go with you, a stranger?" This statement stopped Aang midstep. He turned back to a smiling tau considering his words. Aang didn't want to consider the idea that Katara killed anyone. All he knew was he had to get to the bottom of this. He rushed back to Appa and left to head back to the beach house. He needed answers.
