"Say, have you heard of the Midnight Channel?" Chie brings up the topic as Hanamura and Francis look to her. "They say if you look into a TV that's turned off at midnight during a rainy night, you will see your soulmate appear on the screen."
Hanamura looks at Chie with disbelief. "Right." He says dismissively.
"For reals!" Chie shouts as she leans forward. "I heard somebody even saw the announcer."
Francis stares in confusion. "Which announcer?"
"You don't know?" Hanamura looks at him with a dumbfounded expression.
"Are you for real, Francis-san. The dead body that they were talking about when we walked home last time." Chie exclaims.
"Hold on." Hanamura speaks up while raising his hand. "I am just gonna bring this up, why have you two been calling each other by your first names?"
"Oh, cause he's from the US and I just thought it would be nice." Chie explains.
"Right." Hanamura nods his head.
"You can call me Francis if you want." Francis says to Hanamura. "I don't think I got your first name."
"Nah, feels kinda weird." Hanamura responds calmly. "But still," He then turns over to Chie, "I have known you for months and still call you Satonaka." He grins, "I don't suppose we can change that?"
"Why?" Chie asks with bafflement. "Last names are doing fine for me."
"Never mind." Hanamura sighs. He then turns over to Francis, "You sure get around, don't you?"
"Two friends isn't what I would call getting around." Francis says in a deadpan tone.
Later that night, rain is pouring down on the outside. The name of the announcer, Yamano Mayumi, was mentioned once more on the news, and the TV reports about a highschool girl who found her corpse, whose name is Konishi. As he and Nanako sit in the living room, Francis takes a glance over to his umbrella.
"Do you want to go out, Francis-san?" Nanako asks.
"Nah," Francis replies. "Might be fun, but the rain seems like it will be trouble."
After the two spend the evening together, Francis goes back to his room, where he is reminded of the rumor Chie told him about at school. As he does, he remembers the weird dreams he had, and the things Igor told him.
"Misfortune and mystery." He talks to himself in English, grumbling as he does. 'Pretty sure...:" He goes silent for a bit, "She wasn't the one he was referring to."
He contemplates for a bit. "Let's check it out, this rumor is pretty mysterious. At the least, it will give us something to talk about. Well, might give us something to talk about."
As the rain goes on, the clock soons strikes midnight. Francis turns off his TV, and waits slowly for something to appear.
To his surprise, static waves appear on the TV. Soon enough, a figure appears on the TV.
As he stares in surprise, Francis pinches himself. Feeling the sensation, he confirms to himself, speaking humorously as he does. "Not a dream."
Slowly, Francis makes the figure out to be a girl with long hair, seemingly in highschool. As he does, something clicks.
"Konishi?" He asks himself with curiosity. "The silhouette does resemble, but then again most girls look the same don't they? With exception of her. God, I should probably before it gets creepy."
Summon I, thy true power.
Francis pinches himself again. "Still awake." He says to himself humorously. "Well, true power, here I come."
Just as when he decided to crush the card in his dream, Francis reaches for the TV.
"What am I even doing? " As Francis questions himself sarcastically, waves form on the screen. As the screen becomes liquid-like, his hand slips inside the TV. "Hold on, WHAT?"
Francis struggles to get his hand out. "Okay, okay, calm down Francis Yamada, you can do this! Just slowly get it out…"
"Hello?"
Upon hearing Nanako's voice, Francis panics. Losing his footing, he falls back into the TV, as he does he almost hits his head on it. He manages to put his other hand forward to reduce the impact. The impact causes Francis to fall back down on the floor. As he does, his hand seems to release his grip on TV, leading him to fall back first onto the ground. While falling, Francis hits his back on what he assumes is the table.
"Ow…" Francis blurts out.
"Are you okay?" Nanako asks with a sleepy voice.
"I am good!" As Francis rubs his head, he realizes something.
"I mean," He switches. "I am good."
"Okay…"
"Sorry, did I wake you?" Francis asks kindly as he stands while rubbing his back.
"Good night…"
"That was mysterious." Francis whispers to himself in English.
