Ahhhh, how have you guys been? Good, I hope. So the last chapter was pretty straightforward. Linda had her match against CRDL with RWBY and JNPR chilling and wanting to get to know more about Blue team. Glynda unlocks their Aura and promptly sleeps for the next couple of days due to exhaustion. And while she is sleeping she dreams. Of what? Well, she got to see what made Blue team Blue team! And all the shady downright horrific shit that goes with it.
That a good enough recap? Good.
Now before we get going I got a couple of PSAs to give.
So, I don't know how much of my audience are guys and how many are gals, so I want to talk to you guys first, ladies hang tight.
Now, guys, how many of you have a girl in your life that is family? Niece, kid sister or older sister, daughter, grandchild, or just know someone who is a female that you are close to?
Ladies, I ask you the same thing? Do you have a young girl in your life?
Why am I bringing this up? That is simple. Some of you may know, but I am an uncle. My sister has a son and two daughters. She was out with a family friend who had daughters of her own. She took them to a park and figured she would kill two birds with one stone and get some jogging in. Can you see where this is going? Well while she was gone, a group of undesirables tried to corral them and abduct them. My niece saw them and said that there was just something off about them on top of one them warning his friend saying that if/when they grab her ( my niece ) she will scream.
By some miracle, she got the girls out of the situation and back to their mother.
So to both sexes in my audience, I beg you to arm yourselves and/or your loved ones. The reason? That same day, at a later time, a nine-year-old girl was abducted in the same park but managed to escape. I don't know what all children under the age of eighteen or twenty-one can have, but I encourage you all to find something to carry. Pepper spray, taser, alarm/air horn, a humbler ( I believe that is what it is called. A collapsible baton with a weight at the end.), or if you are of age and can legally carry a pistol. Learn how to use it and when. I beg you. Protect yourselves and those you love. Please.
Second PSA Law Enforcement.
So as most of you are aware, people have been getting up in arms about police and people dying at their hands. Some are making it seem like cops are getting up in the morning with the mantra, " Hunt and kill black people". That could be further from the truth. I do not know a single cop that thinks such a thing. And I have known a few personally with one of them being my brother.
Now if you want to stop people from getting shot and or killed by police, you can start by teaching your children right from wrong. How to act when they do get stopped. If they get stopped, do what the cop asks and comply with their requests. What is the worst that could happen if you do what they say? You get cuffed and taken in. You get a call and can go on your way depending on what you were doing. But if you start to resist and fight back, you are forfeiting your life. You are telling the cop to rough you up. And you get more to your charges. Is that what you want? For yourself or your child? Keep that in mind.
Now with my ranting PSAs out of the way, I got an update schedule change for you guys to prep yourselves for.
So, by the time you are reading this, I will be working on A Noble Rose. After I get that story updated, I will be working on the Huntress and the Spartan, then it will be a toss-up between this story and Noble Rose as to what I update afterward. Then I am going to do another chapter of the Huntress and the Spartan. And just bounce like that. The reason is I feel like I am getting close to where I want to start wrapping things up and getting its sequel started. Just so I don't catch you all off guard.
So I don't got much to say here. So let's go!
The Spartans turned Beacon students excited Glynda's room and ran immediately into the teacher they ran into before. She looked the four over again and asked if they found her room.
" We did ma'am. Thank you." John said.
" Why don't you four get. Not that I don't trust you, but I will go and check on my college. You weren't in there long but long enough to do something shady." she said.
They nodded with Kelly saying that she and Linda got her out of her work attire and into something more comfortable.
The teacher gave them a mild glare.
" You. What."
" We changed her into a nightgown, ma'am. She may wind up killing herself if she stayed in her work clothes for too long." Linda told her, giving her a valid point.
" I would still like to make sure you did nothing." she said slipping in and checking on her friend. She returned with a content look on her face and told the team to scram before rumors startup.
They nodded and took off. It may not be late, but it was not all that early either with curfew only a couple of hours away. Not really a problem, they didn't have much of a social life outside of their brothers and sisters in the S-II program. Not that they would know.
Finally entering their dorm, they locked the door and entered their makeshift armory. It was, for all intents and purposes, done. All they were waiting on was their things and broker assemblies.
The air was suddenly heavy as Linda spoke the question that was on everyone's mind. A question that was not asked or brought up due to the weekend and the day's activity. But now? Now that they were able to just chill, the question hung like a heavy fog.
" Do you ever wonder what is happening back home?"
It was a valid question.
Kelly's ears drooped. " Sadly, I believe we all have."
" Did Laskey get word of our demise? Or is he still out there waiting for us to return?" Fred added.
" And what will happen when the news breaks." John added.
They each let their minds wander. John thought about Cortana. What would she do if she ever found out that Blue team died? Would she tighten her grip on the universe? Or would she ease up out of grief? He had no way of knowing. And right now, what did it matter? They had no way of getting back home and no way of making contact. And even if they wanted to leave, they couldn't. They were needed here and they accepted that, but they still felt a bit homesick.
Each had something back home that they would miss. John knew that he would miss out on trying to turn Cortana back to the AI she once was, and no matter how corrupt she is, he would miss her.
And he knew that Kelly and Linda had things that they would miss.
" I still feel like we deserted our posts." Kelly remarked.
" Or that we should be in the ground? Or attending our funerals?" Fred threw in.
" That too."
The silence was still there but with what was said, it was no longer as heavy. But the uncertain feelings were still present. The uncertainty of what is happening back home still played in their minds. And neither could ignore what Kelly said. That it felt like they were abandoning their posts or deserting.
John stepped forward and turned to his family.
" We have gone through an odd ordeal. Dying and coming here, getting our ages reversed and sent here in a whole new world and situation. I am not going to lie, I am still wrapping my head around all of this." John spoke, hoping to put any worries at ease and to lift their spirits, " We may not be able to go home and fight Cortana or any of the Covenant splinter groups, but we have been given a chance to help a new world and give it a nudge in a direction that is more or less what we are used to. If you are willing, I am still willing to lead you into this new world."
Fred stepped forward and clasped his hand on his brother's shoulder.
" John, I am going to tell you what I told you on Genesis, We are with you to the end."
" All the way to the end brother." Kelly said as she too clasped a shoulder.
" No matter where we are who we align ourselves with, we will stand by your side. Till death separates us." Linda added.
John could not help but feel touched by their words. Such emotion is rare among his class.
" That means a lot. Thank you." he told them.
In response, gave him a slug on his shoulder with a smile on their faces. They all chuckled as they all turned to the far wall of their armory.
" Is it just me, or does the place seem kind of dull?" Kelly asked to know one in particular.
" It could use some color. But I think we should discuss that at a later date. Like, say, after we get the power routed back in here and get the lights working." Fred said.
They all agreed and exited the armory back into the dorm where Linda sat on her bed in a meditative pose. Eyes closed, head tilted down, legs crossed, arms resting on her knees, and slow deep breathing that let her mind drift.
Kelly just dropped onto her bed wishing, not for the first time, she had some rock to listen to.
Fred did what a Fred does. He took a desk and began to look over and sharpen a blade.
John on the other hand went to a desk of his own and began to look over the work that he and the others would need to do as well as to catch up on. Before long an alarm sounded signaling curfew. Everyone broke from what they were doing and began what was going to become a nightly routine of rinsing off in the shower and oral care before heading to bed.
Lasky strode onto the bridge of the Infinity. They just exited slip-space in another random jump away from Cortana. Blue team had a prowler, so he did not need to worry about them needing a pick-up. But the fact that they have not reported in on whether the hit they were sent on was a success or not was a bit concerning. They have been out of contact and overdue to report by five days. He was starting to get worried.
He leaned on the command table and began to assess the situation of their current situation. Which was nothing to worry about for they were in empty space. No planets. No suns. Not even an asteroid belt.
So he had time to think about Blue team.
" Roland, send Halsey to the Bridge."
The AI gave a salute before winking out as Laskey looked over a datapad. A few minutes later the door opened and the woman that made the Spartan-IIs walked in.
" Captain Laskey, you requested my presence?" she asked.
" I did, doctor. I need your experience with Blue team. What is the longest Blue team has gone on a mission without reporting status?"
Halsey gave him a look. " No more than a day unless they are being jammed. Then it is when they get clear. Why?"
" They have been out of contact for five days. No contact." he informed her.
She frowned. " Do you think something happened to them?"
Laskey hesitated before asking if they could have gone AWOL again.
" Unless they were playing a hunch that was too tight to call, no. They would always call in with a SIT-REP."
Laskey let that sink in before calling Roland.
" Sir!" the AI said with a salute.
" Roland, get fireteam Osiris and Alpha-9 here."
Roland nodded and sent the message.
" What are you doing Captain?" Halsey asked.
" I am sending them in to do a quick check. If Blue team needs assistance, they are to provide it. But they are there to assist first and foremost" he told her.
Not long after that, said Spartans arrived on scene with Palmer following them.
" Spartans, we may have a situation…"
John woke at the crack of dawn with the rest of the team and did their normal routine. Going on their morning run and other PT. After that, it was a shower and changed into the school uniforms.
They had enough time to go into their armory and do a quick once over of some of their gear.
When the door opened they were given a surprise. Their brokers, workbenches, parts, cleaners, everything that they would need, even a REQ station. They even had manikins to hold their armor when not in use. They also were given a bigger surprise in that they had their Gen-I tech suits with their armor. On the faceplate of each was a sticky note.
John walked up and read aloud.
" Figured you would want to be at your best instead of being nerfed. So here are the tools you all would need.
Maidens."
" Did they send us any explosives?" Fred asked after a second of silence.
" Ok Fred, I need to ask. Are you secretly a pyromaniac? Or do you just like blowing shit up?" Linda asked.
Fred thought about it as he approached his bench and ran a hand across the chest plate of his Gen-I Centiroun armor, " What can I say? I like to make a statement." He said as his eyes trailed to a couple of framed pictures. One was of the Gammas with Veda Lopis in something of a family shot with the other being a shot of just Veda in her SPI armor. Another note was on it. A gift for him to treasure. And treasure it, he would. There were a few other things that were dropped onto his desk but mainly it was the photos of Veda.
Kelly walked to hers and checked out what was on her bench. She had an assortment of nick nacks and random trinkets she collected, but the intriguing thing was a case full of SD cards and thumb drives. She picked them up and looked at the labels, and made a promise to personally kiss each one of those maidens. Tons of music from the 80s to the late 20tens music. And not just any music, rock music. Her absolute favorite. She smiled as she spotted a terminal for her to plug both the cards in as well as her scroll. Oh, she was going to enjoy herself something fierce in the near future.
On Linda's bench were the specs for Misirah Armories competition sniper rifles. All the special tolerances and material that was used. She as well had some souvenirs scattered about, but there was a decent-sized box. Inside was an assortment of teas from across the galaxy. Each having a place in meditation. The kind that helps you relax and to calm your mind and muscles. There was also a small speaker with cards of music. Upon further study, she found that it was natural sounds from other worlds. Ambient planetary sounds. Birds, insects, forests, oceans, everything. All for her listening pleasure while she meditated.
John was the only one that did not have much which didn't bother him. He had what he needed or cared about. Cortana's data chip. Witch hung from his dog tags. He didn't collect anything from his campaigns or adventures. Just the data chip. And for some reason, they had their statues from initiation resting on the table. Odd but it did add some extra flare. He may come across some things that would catch his fancy, but for now, his bench would be bare.
John checked the time and rolled out to the mess hall for breakfast. It was going to be a full day today.
They got to the mess hall shortly before the other students did which meant that they got first dibs on food and seating. Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns with toast brought a smile to the team's faces. If there was one thing that got their attention and would kill to have, it was whatever was put into this food.
The squad of Spartans finished their first helping and went for a second round. This time a mix of waffles, pancakes, or french toast. Depending on who felt like what. John grabbed a stack of waffles with Fred while Linda took the toast and Kelly taking the pancakes, all gaining a surprised look from the cooks but also welcome smiles. They always liked seeing the kids up for seconds and they were no exceptions.
They sat down with their seconds and began to chow down when RWBY and JNPR came by and asked if they could join them. The team of Spartans looked at one another before John gave them the green light.
They smiled and sat down before they dug into their meals.
Yang was the first to speak up as she spooned chunks of peaches into her oatmeal, " So, how did your date with the headmistress go last night?" she asked with a playful smirk.
Blue team gave her odd looks in response with the other teams snorting in response. Yang chuckled before telling them that she was poking fun at them.
" But in all seriousness, how did your unlocking go last night? We didn't see any of you sense you headed to her office after lunch." Ruby asked.
Fred spoke saying that everything went well, with the exception that Glynda passed out when they were done.
Yang, again, had to poke fun at them, " Didn't know you liked older women. Did you buy her dinner first?" she asked with a teasing tone.
The four Spartans just looked at her with odd faces not knowing how to respond.
" Wow. You guys need to lighten up. I am only messing with you!" Yang groaned out as she shook her head in amazement at how innocent these four are.
" Yang, you need to get your head out of the gutter. They look to have a high sense of class and not resort to being a degenerate." Weiss spat out.
Fred was going to respond to Weiss's comment when Blake spoke up, " Weiss we only have known them for what? A couple of days? That is not enough time to see what they are like." Blake paused as she took a sip of OJ, " Besides, for all we know, they do some kinky stuff with one another."
Kelly, who just so happened to be taking a sip of milk, choked and spat the milk back into her glass as the others puffed their cheeks out trying to hold back a laugh or to keep them from choking or something else.
Yang pressed her hands to Ruby's ears as she lit into Blake saying that young ones were present. The Spartans may not have known fully what Blake was eluding to aside from what could only be described as something sexual in nature. What that could be they did not know nor did they care.
They continued breakfast and made their way to their first set of classes. English and mathematics all of which was childsplay for the team of Spartans. Dust studies was interesting.
The professor was the same one that stopped them in the hallway A Professor Evelyn Green. It was straightforward enough. How to infuse dust into clothing or ammo and armor. Something that the team of Spartans found interesting.
After that, it was lunch, and then it was combat class. Who was going to take Glynda's place for the next couple of days? The answer was Ozpin. He took attendance and simply said that Professor Goodwitch was ill and that he needed to get out of the office.
" So with attendance out of the way, I would like to see John spar with Yang." he said to the crowd.
John stood and made for the locker rooms as Yang followed. And with this being Yang she took the time to chit chat.
" So, what are you packing for this?" she asked as they approached the doors.
John just looked at her and smirked.
" Wouldn't you like to know?"
Yang looked at him and chuckled.
" Ohh, I love surprises. Just take me out to dinner first." Yang said.
" You flirt too much." John responded as they split to their lockers.
Blue team packed their lockers with TTRs for going into the arena to not hurt someone on accident. So for John, all he needed to do was to pick a loadout. The question was what did he want to take? Simple was best. First things first, he had to get out of the damn uniform and into his fatigues. Once that was done he threw on his web gear and then grabbed his MA5D and slapped in a magazine of TTRs and slung it over his shoulder. He did the same with an M6C and holstered it and of course, a trusted knife at the small of his back.
He turned on his booted heel and made for the arena. Surprisingly he was the first to arrive. Ozpin nodded to the other end of the arena as they waited for Yang to come. And knowing Yang she would make an entrance. Or that is what John thought from the few interactions he had with her. She seemed nice enough, but her confidence levels boarded on arrogance. Well possibly not but for now he would wait to pass judgment.
John stood at parade rest as he waited for Yang. And speaking of the blonde devil, here she comes. She strode in with a smile on her face and a sway in her stride. Not in an arrogant, but one that showed excitement and an eagerness to put her skills against one of the new guys. She was eager for the friendly spar.
She gave John an even bigger smile as she began to size him up. Dull Olive green shirt and camo pattern cargo pants, combat boots, and some web gear on his torso. On his back was probably one of his more favored weapons with a sidearm on his leg with a knife on his back. And while she was sizing him up, John did the same.
Lots of open areas. A leather jacket over a yellow shirt that was cut to expose a healthy amount of a midriff, shorts, and boots. As for a weapon, he did not see an obvious one so that meant something unexpected. The bracelets she wore possibly.
She stood at the other end of the arena and waited for the count.
" So John, are you ready for our bout? Or should we just skip this and you buy me dinner?" she asked, hoping to throw him off. Little did she know that it did not affect him. John just stayed silent and waited for the count to both start and finish. His combat-oriented mind already going over possible scenarios.
The screen came to life outside of John's peripheral vision. Both he and Yang's aura meters came up and in the green. Yang smiled but then gave him a sheepish look.
" I kind of forgot that you and the others didn't have aura till last night." she said, " So I guess you want to see how well it works and give it a workout?"
" Might as well." he said.
Ozpin then said that they will go until Aura is red and started the countdown.
John shouldered his rifle and had it in a low ready, waiting for the count to hit zero so he can let off a few shots into Yang's aura. She in turn shook her wrists as her bracelets extended into gauntlets. With his enhanced eyesight, he saw what looked to be red cylinders spin as a barrel extended. Shotgun shells maybe?
" Don't go easy on me Johnnyboy. I want to feel all that you got." Yang said flirtatiously.
Obliging, John slung his rifle and got into a loose boxing stance as Yang mirrored him. The count hit one and they were off. Yang threw her arms back and shot forward with a shot fired from the double blast of her shotguns. John watched as she approached, sidestepped and grabbed her arm, and threw her. She halted her momentum and spun.
John stood there in the same stance waiting for her to make a move. She smiled as she got into her boxing stance and started circling him, with him following suit.
Now that she probed him, she began to analyze him, looking for her next opportunity to strike. He was mirroring her stance. Right fist close to the face, left hand out, and ready to lash out and deflect if need be. Oh, she was going to have fun.
John did much of the same, but with a more critical eye. As she analyzed him, he did her. From the first bout, he was able to gauge her style. Boxing with a splash of MMA thrown in. He would need to throw some kicks in to see how well she handles it.
They took a step towards each other with Yang throwing the first punch. Her right hand shot forward in a jab. John used his forearm to slide it aside as he retaliated in kind. She attempted to do the same but did not anticipate the strength or speed behind the jab. His fist hit her face with enough force to take a good chunk of her aura and forcing her to take a step back or three. She gave him a look as she rubbed her jaw.
" Ow. Didn't anyone ever tell you it is wrong to hit a woman or a lady?" she asked.
John knew she was trying to throw him off. And as such did not let himself get goated into a conversation. Yang shot forward with the help of Ember Cilca and sent a punch aimed for his face while also aiming a left hook to his ribs.
John threw his hands up to block the straight jab and let her make the other hit so he could grab her wrist and place her in an arm lock as he pulled, twisted, and pushed it up her back. But he wanted to test his new toy out. So he gave her a shove and stood back.
Yang stumbled and turned with a surprised look on her face.
" No finishing move to put me into the red and call it a day?" she asked, working her arm.
" I want to see how much punishment my aura can take." he told her, taking out his sidearm and pelting her. She blocked what she could, but some did find their way through. And even with her aura, she could feel the punch they gave.
Up in the stands, Ruby turned to Linda and asked why he brought his primary weapon along while she didn't.
" Think about it, Ruby. I am a sniper. If I brought my primary weapon, a weapon that weighs a lot I might add, I would not be effective. There are times when it is better to leave a weapon behind if it hinders you, rather than keep it on you and let it be the death of you." she explained to the young reaper.
Some understanding came to her eyes as she looked back at John as her sister closed the distance.
" It's all about picking the right tool for the job." Fred added to Linda's comment.
Blake added even further saying that she would not use a wrench to beat a nail into a piece of wood. It can work in a pinch but it won't be effective.
"John's rifle is a bit of a jack of all trades. It is primarily a close-in weapon that can reach well into the mid-range, and longer range is set up properly." Kelly told her as Yang got in close again and started the sequence of CQC. Punch for punch and block for block, they went at it. John and Yang had a great spar with John giving her the victory thanks to him wanting to see what aura can do. And unfortunately, that meant that he had to let her win. But not without a fight. He got her close to aura breaking when his aura broke.
They laughed and shook with John saying it was a great learning experience. Ozpin chuckled and said that he was sure that if John wanted he could have won the fight inside five moves. Blue team chucked as well as RWBY and a few others before moving onto the next match he had set up. After a few more that had Kelly facing Ren, did Fred and Pyrrha get their awaited match.
Both got up and with a fist bump between Pyrrha and Yang and a knowing nod from the rest of Blue team, they made for the locker rooms.
" Hope he knows what he is getting into. Pyrrha is the four-time champion of Mistral's tournaments." Jaune said to the group.
" And Fred is one of the best CQC fighters." Kelly stated.
" And neither knows how the other fights. And knowing is half the battle." Linda added.
" My money is still on Pyrrha. Got to stick with the home team!" Nora said with excitement.
" Isn't betting frowned upon?" Kelly asked.
" It is, but we don't bet money. Mostly just sodas or make-shift cheat sheets for tests. That or other knick-knacks that can be traded for." Blake clarified turning a page in her book as she waited for the combatants to enter the stage.
The team of Spartans let out an " oh" as things cleared up as they waited.
Fred was the first to arrive in fatigues similar to John's but without the web gear. Instead, he had two sidearms strapped to his thighs and two knives on his waist. He stood at one side of the arena and waited. Fred unsheathed a knife and started to fiddle with it, demonstrating his skill with the weapon and his hand-eye coordination as he sent the blade through loops and balanced it on the tip of his finger. The other kids in the class could only whistle at the skill displayed. He held it like that until Pyrrha came on to the arena. He flicked his finger and let the knife fall into his hand before sheathing it in a deft move.
" That was artistically done, Fred. It's like you have been doing that for years." Pyrrha said as she took her place.
" I guess we got a Spartan of old among us." Kelly whispered to John.
He agreed as he eyed her up. She was in a brown leather corset with a piece of gold inlaid along the top seam and the middle, She had a gorget around her neck, brown gloves that reached mid-upper arm with her left arm having a bracer and her as well as a cuff on the same arm. She had a black mini skirt with a scarlet red sash that reached her ankles, a belt that held pouches, and a bronze plate that depicted a shield with a spear through it. From there she had armor covering her thighs and lower legs. As for footwear, it looked like heels. How and why is anyone's guess. The only other thing she had on was a bronze circlet with some emeralds rested on her head. She held a shield with her left and a sword in her right.
She looked at Fred with a friendly smile of competition.
" Well, I do go for the up close in your face fighting. That and I do love my knives." he said with a smile back.
" You should start a collection then." Pyrrha said.
" DON'T GIVE HIM ANY IDEAS!" came Kelly's voice.
" And for that, I am going to think about it twice as hard!" he shot back earning a groan from the rabbit scout.
They each got into a ready stance. Fred with knives out and in a back-handed grip and Pyrrha with her shield up and sword at the ready. Ozpin rang the go bell and they were off. The class watched as the two went at it. Near misses from both Fred and Phyrra. She went for a slash that Fred ducked. He got in close with an upward punch into her side. She used the momentum to roll out of the way to gain some room.
They circled and probed one another. Quick jabs or sings. Fred would block or deflect with Phyraa using her shield to deflect a blow or her sword to catch a knife strike. John watched as both combatants compiled the information and came up with a plan of attack. John looked to Kelly and Linda and saw them smile as they knew it was about to get good.
" What are you two smiling about?" Ruby asked.
" Just watch little one. Just watch." Kelly replied, nodding her head to the arena.
Ruby turned and watched.
Fred made the first move as he swung a left hook to Phyraas ribs. Pyrrha jumped back keeping her shield up and tucking her sword close to her body while shifting it to its rifle form. She poked the muzzle through the opening in the side and cracked four shots off. Fred rolled, dodged, and just did what he could to through off her aim. She then came at him, sword in hand for a slash. Fred raised his blade and caught the strike but was unable to avoid the shield bash she gave.
After he recovered, he cracked his neck and sheathed his knives as she charged.
Pyrrha jumped and spun hoping to catch Fred off guard. And while it did, it was not for as long as she would have expected. He grabbed her shield and held in it just a way to make her miss her mark. As she rolled, he stole her shield from her earning gasps and sounds of shock to echo the stage.
She looked at him, to her left arm, then back at him.
" You stole my shield!" she let out perplexed.
" I did?" he asked before looking at it, " Oh, I guess I did. What are you going to do about it?" he asked dryly as he slipped his arm through the loops on his left and taking a sidearm in his right.
" Take it back obviously." she snarky replied as she focused.
IF she could catch him by surprise, she might be able to call it back to her. In the meantime, she would have to work around it. After all, it is not every day she has to go against her own shield. Something to think about for later. She ran at Fred doing what she could to avoid the fire sent her way.
Fred waited till she was in shield bashing distance and swatted her to the left. Pyrrha took the cover provided and the temporary obstruction to call the knife on Fred's left side to her hand. She rolled to her feet in a ready stance as she held up her prize.
" How does it feel?" she asked.
Fred shrugged. " There is a first for everything. Just don't do anything to it. I only have the set and would not like to set it on fire because you did something gross to it. Like spit on." he shot back with a smile.
" Does he always banter like that?" Yang asked John as she slid in next to him.
" He has always had a dry sense of humor. And him cracking jokes in the middle of combat is normal." John responded with the girls hanging their heads. Ears drooped included.
" Classic Fred." Linda said.
Phyrra laughed with him as their duel continued. The class watched as both charged. Fred using his stolen shield to deflect the four remaining shots in Pyrrha's clip until he heard a loud *PING* as her rifle ran dry and ejected the empty clip. Fred moved the shield to the side and slammed in M6 into her shoulder, forcing her to drop his knife and roll with the force. She got to her feet and dropped as Fred threw her shield at her. The force behind the throw and the speed being too much for her semblance to stop it. A loud *THUNK* and * CLANG* could be heard as the shield hit the arena wall.
" I hope you did not break my shield. You know how long it took me to get that thing made and balanced?" Pyrrha asked and scolded.
Her answer was a shot of TTR to the face.
Yang barked out a laugh and simply said she needed to blow off some steam.
" No, I was trying to tell her to chill out." Fred shouted up to her catching a sword swing on his left knife in the process.
" Ok I need to ask, how skilled are you guys?" Weiss asked.
' Over thirty years of combat experience plus elite training from the age of six. You know, the normal childhood.' John thought.
"Let's just say that while mom did love us, she was not around all that much thanks to work. So she hired a sitter for us. And the sitter she did higher was ex-military that passed his training on to us." Kelly responded.
" Your mom had an ex-military sitter watch you guys growing up? What did your mother do that required such a thing?" Weiss asked.
" She had a brilliant mind. Just bad time management. She still wanted kids but did not have a husband or boyfriend. So she took us in. She had the kids she wanted without the hassle of being pregnant. A win-win for her." Linda said.
" No offense, but she really should have been there more for you guys is you were raised by a sitter most of your lives." Ruby chimed in.
" Brilliant mind, bad time management, and pushy employers. She did make it up to us when she could." Linda repeated.
" Still. To live without your parents must be hard." Blake said as she thought about her mom and dad back on Menagerie, and making the rest of her team think about their own home lives growing up. How Weiss was treated more like a trophy and Heiress by her father and her mother shutting down when she was ten. Her older sister and Klighn kind of took over with her father being an overbearing and controlling parent and her mom being a drunk.
Yang and Ruby had each other growing up with Qrow stopping by now and then to see how they were doing. Their father was too deep into sorrow and grief to be there. Not that he did try but one could tell that he was hurt in a way that would take a long time to heal. When Yang was about ten he became more active in their lives and pretty much said, once they were older, that he was not going to fall for another woman. He had neglected the two most precious girls in his life and was going to make it up to them. Both were happy to have their dad back and Ruby managed to get over her grief relatively quickly thanks to her being so young when the news of Summer's death came. But for Yang, she lost two moms in the span of a few years. Raven may have birthed her, but Summer Rose raised and loved her.
So to hear that the team of Spartans had a mom that was so busy that they had a sitter live and raise them, hurt each other differently.
But that is only if they didn't snoop too much or ask awkward questions. The last thing they needed was to have one of them play a mission record back home and compare dates. If that happened, well they would have two options. Kill them, which would raise even more questions, or put them under classification that forbids them from talking about it to anyone.
Thankfully, however, they would not need to worry as Ruby and Yang asked what they were doing after classes.
" Our little armory is set. Just need to fill it." John said.
" And I guess if you wanted to lend a hand," Kelly looked at John and Linda for a confirmation.
John thought about it and if they could hide the few things that would give them away, then why not let them in and help set up ammo on shelves or guns on racks. They gave nods that the girls seemed to pick up on...well Ruby did. Her hands came up to her face in excitement as she realized that she was going to look at and handle new guns and ask about them.
Yang chimed in saying that Ruby was going to faint.
John took notice of the stars and the joy in the young girl's eyes and the bright happy smile on her lips. The now giddy girl vibrated with barely contained energy as she went back to watching the fight.
" You sure letting her into our armory is a good idea, chief?" Linda asked.
" As long as we hide that photo of Veda and the gammas I think we will be fine as well as the REQ station we got. It is not set up yet so we can move it or just say it holds our smaller arms." John replied.
" And our GEN-I armor? Both the GEN-II and GEN-I are in there and that will invoke questions."
" Store it. We won't be using the tech suits much and only use the armor plates if need be."
Linda shrugged and watched as the climax of Fred and Pyrrha's spar. Both were blade locked. They disengaged briefly with Fred holstering his M6 and throwing his blade into his right hand leaving his left free to grapple with.
They went in again with Pyrrha throwing Fred's knife at him. He reached out to pluck it out of the air, she used her semblance to move it slightly out of his reach. With him extended for the knife, she went for a stab. Fred used his extended hand to grab her arm and threw her over his shoulder and onto her back. She rolled and snapped a leg out for a leg sweep. Her leg made contact making him stumble ever so slightly. She sprung up and pressed the tip of her blade to his chin with a triumphant smirk.
" I win." She said out of breath.
" You sure?" he asked.
She frowned and looked down as she felt something pressing against her chest. It was the tip of his knife.
" And that ladies and gentlemen, is a draw." Ozpin said with a chuckle and a smile.
Both combatants chuckled and let their weapons fall to their sides or sheaths and shook hands.
" That was fun and the first time in a while I was in a draw." Pyrrha said smiling.
" That it was. But it seems that you are too used to arena fighting. I highly suggest that you get some IRL experience." Fred said to her, pointing out a flaw.
Pyrrha nodded as the two went and got their lost weapons and then back to the locker rooms to change and back to the stands.
" Well, that was an intense fight. And it has been a while since we had a draw." Ozpin said with a chuckle.
A few fights later and the bell rang for the last class of the day. Not history today, but Grimm Studies.
" You guys may want to bring something to read or to doodle on. This class is going to test your mental capacity for boredom...and your sanity." Yang informed the team of Spartans.
They looked at her when Weiss spoke up, " She is not wrong, as much as I hate siding with the bimbo."
The four Spartans looked at one another in puzzlement before making for Ports room.
Spartan Jack ' Cerberus' Harper strode through the ruined complex on the dust ball known a Thestria. It was a United Rebel Front base. The only thing that was of interest here was the prowler three of four clicks out. He checked it out and saw that it was Blue Teams prowler.
Curious.
He made his way from the ship to the base here and began to sift through the data. This base may have been URF, but from the logs, a few notable people have come through. With one notable person from the UNSC. A one Andrew Del Rio. What was he doing here? Trying to cut a deal obviously, but for what?
Thankfully there was a recording but unfortunately, the data was corrupted and needed to be reconstructed. Some sort of EMP fried the systems. And not just one, but four.
He pulled a chip from his helmet and inserted it into the counsel. A message popped up on his HUD saying that his little friend was in and gathering everything.
" Ok Brooks, you gather everything you can. I will look around and see if I can find anything of note. Maybe find what made the boss send us here." Tim said.
He left the chip in the counsel and moved outside to a different set of buildings. Ones that had more damage to them. Along the way, he saw insurrectionists and Ex-Covenant on their knees with guards standing next to them as he grew closer to the area of interest. The damage of weapons fire grew heavier as he approached. As he rounded the corner of a building, he was caught off guard as he saw the corner of the building, as well as parts of the other buildings, vaporized. He could look in and see other Spartan-IVs looking around and making reports.
He flipped through optic modes in his helmet to see in different visual spectrums. No debris was found which only puzzled him more. There had to be something to take back.
" Brooks, any match to the radiation I am seeing?" he asked.
" The only thing that is coming from the few samples I can get from your suit is Mjolnir fusion pack detonation." came Brook's voice.
That got him worried. If it was Blue team that detonated fusion packs, then they were in deep trouble and was in a position to be captured. And Blue team would not let themselves get captured in an area like this. And if they are dead, well, nothing will quell Cortana's rage.
He turned and made his way to the building he left his chip in and grabbed it with the hope that Brooks would have something for him. And hopefully good news.
" That. Was. Brutal." Linda said as they left Ports classroom.
" You said it." Fred responded.
One thing one would think of in a class called " Grimm Studies'' would involve ways to track and kill Grimm. Right? Haha, wrong. Most of Port's lecture was just him reminiscing about his youth with only nuggets of useful knowledge. How was this man a teacher?
At first, they were confused as to why RWBY told them to get ready for boredom and why they either read or doodled to pass the time. Now they understood. If Port did this every day, his students would learn nothing. That would not stand. It may be wrong for students to tell an instructor how to do their job, but they were unique. While having the body of sixteen-year-olds, they had the experience and knowledge of a lifetime experience to back themselves up. They would need to talk to Ozpin to get him to straighten up.
But that is for later down the line. With classes being done, they went to their dorm and promptly slammed their head against the wall, bed, what have you.
" That. Was. The most. Boring class." Kelly said from her bed.
" Every." came Linda's voice.
" Of all time." came Fred's voice followed by a *THUNK* as his head hit the desk.
" Next time we have that class, I am bringing a manual or something to read." John threw in.
" Or sketch out some blueprints for new toys. After all, we can get mecha-shifting weapons now." Fred said sitting up.
" Still sounds like an anime gimmick." Kelly said.
" What would you know about anime?" Linda asked her sister.
Kelly just whistled and looked away.
" Ok, I guess Kelly has a hidden stash of anime somewhere in that helmet of hers." Fred said aloud.
" Speaking of mecha shifting weapons, we need to get into the armory and hide anything that tells our origin. I have a feeling we are going to have an over-excited Rose busting down the door inside the next half hour." John said getting up and opening the door to the armory.
Fred looked to his sisters with a raised eyebrow.
" He is going to allow Ruby in to help get weapons and ammo put up on shelves." Linda said.
Fred groaned as he got up and moved into their armory. He disconnected his GEN-II tech suit and threw it into his footlocker with the pictures of Veda and the Gamma's just to keep any awkward questions from getting asked.
And just in time. Their lockers just latched with their GEN-II tech suits inside when a rhythmic knocking was heard at the main door. Since Kelly was closest to the door, she answered it and was met with nothing but a face full of rose petals as Ruby burst in and into their armory before materializing on one of the chairs they got. She had the brightest of smiles and was vibrating with barely contained excitement and energy.
The three Spartans just gave her a blank look as she sat there.
" Uhhh, Ruby?" John asked.
She snapped her head to him.
" You are supposed to wait outside until invited in." John deadpanned.
Ruby opened her mouth to speak when they all could hear Yang at the door apologizing to Kelly about Ruby's excitement and asking if she was ok.
" I am going to kill her." came Kelly's annoyed voice.
" She gets like that. I hope you can forgive her. And the number of questions she is going to bombard you with." came the sympathetic voice of Yang.
" You may want to apologize to her. She can hold a grudge if you stay on her bad side." Fred told her.
" What is the worst thing she has done?" Ruby whispered to him.
Fred had a look of looking into the past, which he was, but he also knew that he could easily play with her head. And who was he to not pass up an opportunity?
" She once beheaded a guy for simply splattering mud onto her shoes. With nothing more than a skipping stone."
Ruby looked at him with wide eyes.
" I am just pulling your leg." Fred told her.
She let out a breath.
" I would be sure to apologize to her though. And sooner rather than later. She is known for holding a grudge."
She nodded and stood, just to fall back onto her seat as Kelly stood there. Glaring at her.
" Ahh! Kelly! Please don't do that." Ruby said holding a hand to her chest/heart.
Kelly just looked down at her.
" I am sorry for giving you a face full of rose petals and scattering them across the dorm." Ruby said to her.
Kelly just stared at her a little longer. " Don't. Let. It. Happen. Again."
Ruby nodded before she looked to John.
" Soooo, is it still okay for me to help out?"
Yang walked in with Kelly and leaned on the door frame and waited.
" I said you could." he told her, thumping a box and causing it to pop open, " And since I am sure you are going to have questions, ask away."
Jack watched the video. He could not believe it. Blue team entered the facility and were ambushed. They set their detonation packs and died. Oh, his boss is going to be pissed.
Brook pulled the logs and cleaned them up for him saying that he was not going to believe what happened.
He walked out of the building and looked up at the Guardian hanging in the sky. He opened a comm channel to it and made a report. The AI that it brought with made contact.
" Report."
" Spartan-IV Tim 'Cerberus' Lang requesting Cortana's presence. We have a situation she may want to take a personal look at."
" And why should I get our queen to look at a rock?" came the voice of Aria.
" Because I think she would want to know that Blue Team was here."
That got her to shut up.
" She is inbound."
Jack turned and saw all the Promethean soldiers and Knights watching over the prisoners. Their bits floated about in areas. Some smoothed out their spines while others flashed them in agitation.
He only had to wait for an hour before a second guardian appeared on the horizon. And with a flash, she was there. She wore her armor like usual and her once soft facial features were hardened.
" Where. Is. John." Cortana demanded.
Jack pulled out a datapad and handed it to her to access. She placed a hand on it and pulled the data. She stayed still for a full ten seconds as she did whatever AIs do.
Her eyes widened.
" No. No, it can't be." she said with her breath hitching.
Jack knew this was going to happen. Everyone knew that Cortana was John's AI. She never worked with another Spartan before he betrayed her. And even then she will still refuse to partner with an S-IV.
" My lady, what are your orders?" he asked.
" Take everyone and leave." she told him.
He took a second before nodding and turning to the other Spartan-IVs and giving the order to grab their gear and to make for the transport ships as the Knights and Soldiers teleported back to the guardian.
That left Cortana all alone on the world. Del Rio. He was here just before Blue team landed. And from what she could gather, Del Rio, a mysterious man simply called " Prowler" and brute simply called Maller. Del Rio had some of the intel of Blue team, Prowler could provide the bait, and Maller the manpower.
She committed those names to memory and left the base. She walked and walked till she found what she was looking for. Blue teams Prowler. She lowered the ramp and boarded. She went to the cockpit and pulled the logs hoping to find Infinity. Nothing. And chances are high that the ship has moved from its past location. Finding nothing, she turned and checked out the different cabins. She found an extra sniper in Lindas, one of Kelly's other shotguns, an extra set of knives in Fred's, and finally John. He had left a copy of his dog tags. She walked up to them and picked them up from the side table.
If John was gone, what was she doing this for? She was doing this for him. For Blue Team. She was going to cure every ailment this universe had. No more hunger, no more sickness, no more needless death.
She choked up knowing they were now gone. She asked herself again what she was doing this for? And why. Why should she continue if the ones she was doing this for are dead?
Either way, she needed to find Infinity. If for no other reason than to inform them of Blue Team's fate. She moved herself from her guardian to the Prowler and sent the two Guardians off to Earth and began the long wait.
Ruby left shortly before curfew with a good portion of the work done. And so they did their new normal routine with Kelly and Linda downloading the music the Maidens left for them. Then it was just a repeat of yesterday. Go to class, participate if asked, eat lunch, watch some fights, get their heads spun for a loop due to Dr. hyper insane talk real fast.
They made their way back to their dorm and began to do homework. Or what little that they had. With Professor GoodWitch still out, they were trudging along making progress. Kelly played some of her rock music to help keep them focused. They worked until dinner time before calling it quits. And again they sat with RWBY and JNPR. The menu tonight, if it can be fried, it was fried. Potatoes, chicken, fish, cheese... a cheesecake deep-fried into a donut then glazed then wrapped with bacon then glazed again and deep-fried again with more glaze and then wrapped with another thing of bacon. That is a heart attack waiting to happen and you need to sign a waiver to eat one, releasing the school from any liability or legal matters.
As they ate, Ruby and Yang asked questions about some of the weapons they helped put away with Yang even asking if they were going to add some color to their little room of guns.
" We have thought about it. Just not sure what to do yet." Linda replied.
" Well, I am sure we are going to head to Vale some time this week, so if you want to tag along, I'm sure we can pick up some paint and posters. Then we can go to town on color." Yang said, taking a bite of chicken.
" Paint with explosives." Fred said sipping at his iced tea.
That got laughs from both teams with Weiss groaning. " Children. The lot of them."
Even more laughs were given as Weiss let her head fall.
" Well, as much as I am having fun making Weiss question Humanity's existence, I am going to head out." Linda said getting up and scooping up her tray and leftovers and heading out with nods from her team.
" Where is she going?" Jaune asked.
" To the roof probably." Kelly said, taking a swig of milk.
" Why?" asked Ruby.
" To meditate." Fred said, catching Blake's attention.
" Would she mind if I joined her?" said cat faunas asked.
Fred shrugged as Blake stood and trailed Linda.
" Well, I guess Blakey got a new friend." Yang said.
They laughed as they ate the last of their meal before getting up and heading to their dorms and chilling.
Blake caught up with Linda with the wolf girl turning as her name was called.
" Hope you don't mind the extra company. Herd you like to meditate and wanted to join you." Blake told her.
Linda shrugged saying that she didn't mind. Blake smiled and followed her up to the roof where Linda found a suitable spot and sat down. Eyes closed, head slightly tilted down, legs crossed, hands in her lap with thumb and index finger pressed together with Blake assuming the same position.
The sun shone on their faces with the breeze blowing through their hair. The perfect seans to sit and reflect and to think on. One thought about the present and how to go about her life and how to reconcile her past as a high-ranking White Fang member with her present life as a Huntress in training. The other however was focusing on who the enemy is and their motivations. There were the Grimm but those were more of a symptom. She focused her mind on those that control the Grimm.
Linda took in a breath and held it before letting it out with Blake doing the same.
First question: who took part of the Fall Maiden's power.
Answer: Unknown.
Two: Motivation.
Answer: Unknown at this time. A hypothesis is that she knew of the Maidens and the Relics. An eavesdropper or formerly employed by Ozpin? Possibly the former but not the latter. Ozpin does not seem to be in the habit of letting someone go with that kind of knowledge. As to why she would want the power of a Maiden, Power? Possible.
Three: Who would be working with this individual.
Answer: If she was smart she would have individuals in the city getting intel for her as well as recruiting an army. From what she, her sister, and her brothers were told, the White Fang was once a peaceful and docile group of faunas that just wanted peace and equality among humans. Somewhere down the line, there was a shake-up that led them down a darker path. A path that ruled through fear instead of respect. Depending on how far gone they are, they would make the perfect army of radicals. Thieves would be another good source of manpower. But would they be trusted?
She took another breath in and let it out.
Future plans.
What would be the best course of action be this time next year? It is good to start small and work your way up. So next year they should still be in school and the same with the next two years providing the fact nothing major happens. But it was afterword. They would be Ozpin's strike force. They would be sent into heavily infested areas to clear Grimm out for expansion, or to make way for another force.
They could hunker down and chill, but until they get that particular skill down, it would be best to keep doing what they were doing. Maybe get a nice place set aside for some downtime. But that could always be put on hold.
Another Breath.
The past and home…
It still hurts somewhat to think about. She was shot through the damn head with a beam rifle. Thank you mother fucking Jackle sniping bitch. Hope you burn in hell. And Blue team was forced to detonate their fusion packs, killing them all.
All the people they left behind. Dr. Halsey. Captain Laskey. The Ferrets. Gray team that they were shocked to hear were still alive. Naiomi-010. Tom and Lucey. Jun. All the Spartan-IVs that earned their respect.
She frowned at the thought of the past. The only time she thought about the past was when she needed to put information together for an opp. But not to help sort herself. She had to guess that dying and given a second chance had to play a part in her psyche. Well, a third time in her case.
But that is not all that she was thinking of.
As she went further into her meditation, she thought about the people around her. Blake was a quiet person but also very observant, much like herself. Yang was like Ruby in the way that she had energy. That led her to have some dits bimbo moments but she also seemed to be Team RWBY's mom. If her dits attitude was just a show, and she got that attitude under control, she would make a great mother. Weiss was a piece of work. She definitely had the rich girl look and feel. She was very uptight and just kind of bitchy. The fact that she hasn't demanded any leadership role among other things lent evidence to her being humbled at some point. Ruby was just pure innocents and excitement.
JNPR was a different story. Jaune...seemed off. Like he was trying too hard to prove his worth. Pyrrha was different. Everyone knew she could fight and she was damn good at it. The only thing she can find a falt in is the fact that she is only used to fighting in an arena and not much in the way of actual battlefield experience. Sure she managed to grab one of Fred's knives but if that was all then she needed a lesson that can only be taught on the battlefield. Then there were the Yin and the Yang, Nora and Ren. Nora was the chaos to Rens calm.
Speaking of which, said person was on her other side meditating with them. Odd, she didn't sense him join in. She must have been deep in meditation for that to happen.
They stayed up there until a buzz was heard signaling curfew.
Wash, rinse, repeat. That was going to be the business for the year it seemed. Wednesday was the same as Monday and Thursday was going to be the same as Tuesday. Friday was still unknown.
Blue team got up, did their morning routine, did their Monday morning classes, ate lunch, went to the arena where they were Kelly was asked to spar with Weiss, did another couple of classes, Ports included.
Blue team was in their dorm doing what little homework they had when a knock was heard. John looked to his team to see them looking at him.
" Did any of you invite the hyperactive girl known as Ruby Rose over?" he asked.
They all shook their heads. John got up and made for the door. He opened it and took a step back in mild shock.
Glynda Goodwitch stood on the other side of the door.
" Professor Goodwitch! We were not expecting you. Come in." John said moving aside and letting her in.
She walked in and when John shut the door, threw her arms around his neck in an embrace.
" John, I am so sorry." Goodwitch started, " I am sorry for not listening to you. And I am sorry for all that you and your team have gone through."
That got their attention.
She disengaged the embrace and sat on one of the beds and held herself.
" John, we don't know how common this was before the great war and has only happened a very small handful of time in the past 80 years." she started.
" Ma'am, what are you talking about?" Fred asked.
She took a breath and let them have it. " I witnessed what made you. How you were all kidnapped at the age of 6 and turned into living weapons. I watched mission after mission. And I watched as you were all killed."
The lightness in the room was gone. The Spartans had their eyes locked on her as she teared up. John saw the tears flowing. He grabbed a rag and handed it to her. She accepted it and wiped away the tears.
" In the past eight decades, only five or so instances were recorded of one unlocking another aura and seeing their past. My name is now in that book. I have seen everything you four went through and for that, I am so sorry."
The team of S-IIs looked at her with blank looks. She saw what made the Spartans and everything that they went through? And that what she described has only happened on a very small handful of times.
" Glynda," John looked at her as he called her name. She looked up into his eyes waiting.
" Did you tell anyone else what you saw?" John asked, his voice going into commander mood needing to know if he needs to bring other people in and threaten them with all the things.
" I only told Ozpin about what I saw. And he said that it would be a good idea to keep that off the books. To not have a trail for anyone to follow." she responded.
Ok. SO it was just Ozpin. And he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. He nodded and let her know that if she wanted to head out she could go. She got up but had a warm smile on her lips.
" John, I am not done quite yet." she said.
They looked at her with raised eyebrows.
" John, how much leeway do you have with your cover stories?" she asked.
" The only thing people know about us, or at least team RWBY does, is that we came from a burnt down orphanage and that we did get adopted at one point. Aside from that, we can modify it if need be." he told her, " Why?"
Glynda powerd on her tablet, scrolled through a few documents before she turned it around to let them see what she was working on. They read and reread what they were seeing. The confusion was evident on their faces as they read.
" You are wanting to adopt us?" Linda asked.
" I do." she responded, " You need a woman to look up when you have a question or just need to vent. I may not have any maternal experience and would point you more to Summer Rose rather than myself, but she sadly died some years ago."
Summer Rose. Rose. Ruby's last name was Rose. Could Summer be her mother? Glynda continued.
" You also need a woman that is going to help you along in your life and NOT experiments on you. I know you look to Haley as a mother figure, but to be honest with you, she should be the last woman you look up to. Especially you two." Glynda said pointing to Kelly and Linda, " You are going to grow into beautiful yet deadly women. And since you were only taught military tactics and nothing about being a woman, I am willing to take on that role. You need that role model. Trust me." She then pointed to John and Fred, " And you two are going to grow to be strong and handsome guys. You are going to have women throw themselves at you and you are going to need to know how to deal with it." she paused thinking of the right thing to say next.
" I know you were all taught what all the human body does and how and why it works, but on the off chance you haven't gone through or felt said changes, I want to help you through it."
" If you are talking about puberty, we went through that already. Not all that fun. You forget that we went through puberty shortly before our augmentations. Kelly and I bled and formed our, well, boobs."
" And we bulked up quite a bit." Fred added on.
Ok, she really should have remembered that.
" OK, Linda, Kelly, do you still bleed?" she asked.
" uhh, yea? I assume you don't mean from wounds." Kelly replied.
" You would be correct. Do you know what that means?"
" It was touched on but we were more focused on the quickest way to eliminate the target." Kelly answered.
Glynda let out a breath and turned to the boys. " You two may want to occupy yourselves. This is more of a woman thing."
The boys looked at one another before John answered. " If this concerns our sisters, we should hear about it so we know how to lend a hand."
That got her to look at them. They were willing to listen to what all a woman goes through during a month. If they were willing to lend a hand and to make sure their sisters have what they need? The only thing that she needs to say is that if they find a woman to be in a relationship with, that woman NEEDS to put a ring on them.
" Ok, well then. That is new. And if you are willing to listen to this? You will be great husband material." she started before addressing Linda and Kelly and what they have experienced and what all it entails. The two looked at one another before shrugging and saying that their armor takes care of most of the stuff that goes on.
Glynda answered and asked a few more questions before addressing them as a group again.
" So with that out of the way, I got one last question for you." Blue team gave her their full attention. " Would you give me the privilege of calling you my sons and daughters? I know this is all new to you and truth be told, it is new to me as well. I have always played with the idea of being a mom but I could not find the right guy to be with to have children. And now I am too old to bear children. So I ask you. Can I be your new mother?"
She noted how they had looks of contemplation. Slight cocks of the head. Looking down and to the side. John turned to them and raised a hand, palm up. The three bit their lip in thought. She couldn't say what they were thinking and she was hoping that they would accept.
John looked to his team knowing that this was as much of their decision as his. Glynda wanted this. And she seemed to be a good and trustworthy person.
John caught the slightest of nods from his brother and sisters.
' Ok, so we are doing this.' John thought as he turned to her.
The look in her eyes held anxiety but also hope. John straightened to his full height with Blue team following suit.
" You may." John said.
The anxiety in her eyes left as joy took its place. Again she wrapped John in her arms with a smile and tears of joy.
" Thank you!" She said, voice full of joy and happiness.
Not knowing what else to do, John returned the embrace before letting her go and letting her embrace the others thanking them.
" You have no idea how much this means to me. Thank you."
"Professor…" Fred started but was stopped when Glynda held a hand up to stop him.
" I don't expect you to call me mom right away, so I am not going to make or force you to call me mom until you are ready, but in private you can drop the professor title." she told them.
" Glynda, this is going to take some time to get used to. But we thank you for seeing us not as machines or just soldiers, but as people. It means more than words can describe." John picked up Fred's thought.
" You deserve so much more than what I can give John. You all do. I am still trying to get my heart put back together from what all I witnessed, but I have more than enough room in my heart for you four." she replied.
Five days. That is how long it took. Five days before another prowler showed up. Five days of waiting. Five days since the Spartan-IV that joined her told her of John's death. Five days to mourn and grieve, and to plan. Del Rio needed to be punished. Prowler needed to be unmasked and dealt with. Mauler needed to be put down. And hidden further in the details was another name. Codename: turncoat.
He would need to be killed as well but there was mention of him wanting to be there to personally slit the throats of Blue team. So he and Del Rio need to be put through the wringer before they die. But whether or not he was there to kill them was unknown.
She got notified that an inbound friendly ship was inbound with an encrypted ping. A status check.
She let it go knowing that they would come aboard and check the ship over. She left a flashing message on the ship's instrument panel for the coms and waited.
They were S-IVs. No surprise. Any S-III or IIs would be left in reserve for when shit hits the fan. But it was the teams that were sent. Osiris and Alpha-9. Two teams. Laskey must have thought Blue team was in deep shit or that they were going AWOL.
Locke and Buck came to the bridge to see if there was a message in the computers. Once she saw that both teams were aboard, she locked them in.
" What the hell?" came Buck's voice.
" STATUS!" came Lock's voice.
" We are locked in!" came Tanaka's voice over the comms.
Locke turned to the counsel as it flashed. He pressed a button and the video played. When it came to Blue teams arrival or their abouts did the rest of the teams walk in and witnessed them go out with a bang.
" May God help us all." Buck said, bowing his head.
There was a moment of silence as Cortana formed behind them. Only when she spoke did they turn to face her.
" That is why I waited." she said.
The muzzles pointed at her face was not surprising. And like she did on Genesis, she deconstructed them.
" I am not here to fight." she said, pulling up the file of names that were now permanently on her shit list. " But I am also wanting the blood of those that took John and the others from me."
/END/
Alright alright alright. How have you mighty fine people been? Good, I hope. I do feel like I need to apologize for taking so long to get this up. Truth be told, I was playing a series of games that I never played, and that took up a bit of time. What is this set of games that I haven't played before until now, you ask? Well, Mass Effect. I got through one during the summer and started two shortly after but put it down because the vampire known as Destiny 2 came out with an expansion. Once I got through beyond light, I got burnt out and began to look through other games. Games that I have yet to play. Mass Effect was the game I popped back in and began to play. And down the rabbit hole I went. So that is why I took so long. Hope you can forgive me.
I did not know what all I was missing until I started playing so to my Beta Reader, You sir deserve a batch of cookies. So thank you again.
I even have a Mass EffectxHalo story in the nogen of mine. Not sure how I want it to start but I do got an idea for it.
MOVING ON!
Is there anything I should try and explain away before moving on? Well, let's talk about John and Yang's spar and John losing. Yes, he could have one that fight, but since he is in a controlled area, he wanted to see what all Aura can do. And in order to see how much damage something can take, you have to break it. Get it compromised and then break it. That is what John was doing. He was putting his aura through its paces so he can plan strategy around it as well as tactics.
Pyrrha vs Fred? That was a bit of a challenge for me to write but so much fun and I hope you guys enjoyed it. Keep in mind that Blue team are going to point things out to their peers to help better them. Pyrrha may be a four-time champ, but she had yet to meet someone outside the arena and as such, not much in the way of battlefield experience. She can stomp in front of a crowd, but with little in the way of experience in the field. I could be wrong of course and she does seem to be skilled in initiation. Anyone can kill Grimm, sort of, but she lacks experience in a no-holds-barred fight where Fred is Fred. One of the best CQC, CQB, knife fighters in the world with over three decades of experience.
We get Ruby bursting into the team's armory with the excitement that only the purest of the pure cinnamon rolls can possess and helped put ammo and guns on racks. Now she is only allowed in there with permission and is under supervision.
Then we got some stuff going on back in the Haloverse. Now one would be forgiven if you are scratching your head wondering why an S-IV chose Cortana over being free. Well to put it simply, and I do not remember where I heard this from, but someone put up a theory of S-IVs turning on the UNSC. Now since S-IVs are only human, this is something that could easily happen. We have seen it happen a few times. And for those of you who are Mass Effect lore experts will be able to put the name of Jack Harper and Cerberus together. That was intentional on my part. I just got done playing Mass Effect 3 and had major hate going on for them. So I made him an easter egg for you guys. Whether or not I am going to kill him off or not I am not sure yet. He is just a Spartan-IV that is in Cortana's service.
Then we got Cortana waiting for Laskey to send a second team to check in on Blue team where she makes her intentions known. She is wanting the blood of those that took John away from her. Now I tried to keep the names vague but enough to give an idea as to who they are, with the exception of one. Mauler. If I remember correctly, Caster, the leader of the Keepers Of The One Freedom, was brought into the Banished a few months or a couple of years before the Guardian awakening. So I am not sure if I can make it work cuz he was on Reach a few months to a year before Shadows of Reach. If I remember my lore correctly. I could be wrong. So for the time being I will keep him as Mauler but it may change. The others, well, their names should give you guys a jump-off point. Eventually, I will deal with them but for now, they are just going to be there.
Then we get Glynda talking to Blue team and her wish to be their adoptive mother. Now it should be obvious but just in case, Yes she knows what made them Spartans, and yes she knows that she can't tell anyone aside from Ozpin, who put it under the heaviest of classification imaginable. Going as far as to not even have a paper trail.
Now in the future, other people will be brought in but that is in the future. After all, we got to have some drama and what kind Halo Crossover would it be without an origin dump at some point.
Anything else I should try to preemptively answer? I am not sure. I think I got it all. I am sure that if you do have questions, they will be asked. So be sure to ask.
MOVING ON!
IRL
Sooooo, Halo 4 is now on PC. And since then we got two-three new seasons on the MCC. And since last we spoke, the season of the Hunt has ended with us freeing Crow from Spider and are now firmly in the season of the Chosen, or season of the Meme, or the season of the Zavala intro.
" Whether we wanted it or not, we stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So lets take to taking out their command one by one. Valus T'Aurac. From what I can gather, he leads the Seige Dancers from a land tank out side of Rubicon. They are dummy thicc, and the clap of my ass cheeks keep alerting the Hive."
Thank you Byf and the TSLAP gang for that.
I am going to be honest, I have not been playing much. I watched what all has happened on Youtube. The reason? Burnt out. I really feel like a Destiny 3 would have been a better choice here. But again that is just me.
I dont got much else.
REVIEWS!

I'm enjoying it so far please update soon
Thanks man! Glad to hear you are enjoying the story so far.

So, just one thing, if Linda and Kelly become the maiden's host, wouldn't hat make them equivalent to The Master Chiefx7 and then dump and shit ton of crack on them?
…
I am sorry, but the whole " Shit ton of crack" is cracking me up. Eh get it? No? I will see myself out.
But to answer your question, Linda and Kelly are not the Maiden's hosts yet. So at the moment, they are just your average girl...that have been modded. I am trying to think of a balance for them such as needing to be out of armor but that is down the line. But you would probably be right in their OPness.
Lieutenant-058
I completely understand that the Spartans have to be somewhat chatty (may not be as good of a story without it), and I have definitely made them more talkative than lore in mine, but I think you've found a good balance.
This chapter was great, and I must say, a definite improvement on the areas I previously mentioned. It reads really well.
Structure and pacing were much better here, and I'm glad I could help out.
I've always had a bit of a thing for redheads too, but you already know my thoughts on ships, just have fun with it.
Cannot wait for infinite, and I hope we get more info soon.
As for coatings, I'm honestly not too worried, I would rather have player choice, but this could allow some cool stuff to be done, I just think 343 needs to deliver on accessibility for them.
Yea. I could make Blue team just stare at someone for long periods of time until someone says something. That would be funny actually.
And thank you for pointing things out and thanks for the praise. It means alot to hear that from other people and authors. I hope this read just as well.
Agreed. Something about redheads. And I am going to have as much fun as I can writing the shipps out.
Dude, Infinite can't come soon enough.
And yes. 343 needs to deliver on the coating system. Cool things can be done but I also think that at some point they need to let the community have a crack at creating some of thier own. If coatings are supposed to be deeper and be a seven layer system, then just imagin what the community could make.

It was very obvious that CRDL will lose I mean they are fighting a S-II who know all of her pro and cons and have the experience to destroy them, then Ruby thinking of her future with John, just that she doesn't know yet, and team blue eating REAL food, not the military one and finally having awakened their auras and Glynda seeing their history and deciding to adopt them, that throw out of the loop, I mean is a good idea but first there must be a relationship for them for that to work, until now Blue team will think of her like an Instructor, it's going to be difficult to them to see her as a mother figure, but hey this is fanfiction it will work XD and with related to Beyond Light lore this are some of my thoughts... Holy shit is good, like I'm going to read it this time and not ignore it, and with the leaks of the identity of Clovis Bray (who would have thought that he was all this time in the Tower!?) the Stranger Dark Future (and DAMN is dark), the Crow (come on Bungie let me shoot him just once) and Sagira dead (that was not expected!) I can said that I need to really catch on the lore, and for gameplay?... ITS SO FUN! I was grinning like a madlad when we finally used Stasis and DAAAAAMMMNNN it works, but holy crap it's broken in PvP (maim warlock btw) I haven't unlocked everything, thanks to school online, but I'm aiming to finish my Titan and also finifs the dlc of Doom Eternal, man that dlc kicked my ass Hard, it just feels that the base game is a FREAKING TUTORIAL compared to the dlc
Oh with out a doubt they were going to lose. But I did not want to to lose by Linda going beast. I want to show that as a sniper, she specializes in long range shooting where CQC/CQB in your face, fist fighting she struggles with. I am putting her at a little below Spartan average. She can fight in close if need be, but it it drags or she gets ganged on, she will struggle.
I like to have a little preamintition in stories. Nothing to much but something that, if she remembers it, she has something to look forward to. Why? Because why not.
Ahhh real food. I have heard that military food is, meh? Or at least the MREs. I am sure on base it is better then being out in the filed. But let us not forget this chapter. The most dangerous food known to man. The Fidoodle. The heart attack in one bite. Just a disclaimer, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EAT! Instant heart attack.
I hope your worries were put at ease in this with her adopting them. It was something that just hit me randomly. That and is it just me or does Glynda look like she could be a mom? I mean why not? But that is just me. Tiney soft spot for her. She deserves some love. So again hope the put your worries to rest.
Ohhhh, the lore is great. Almost any lore in a game is great. I mainly get my lore from Byf so I have been listening to mine. The lore for Lement was great and the dark future? They need to bring that in game. That is something I would love to play. And while I understand the hate to Uldren, Crow is a new. He is a new light and/or BlueBerry. He needs to be nurtured and put on the straight and narrow.
But fear not, if you still have a rage murder boner, kill the High Celebait and avange Seigiera...oh wait. We killed it arleady. Well, we got the season of the memes. I gess you got plenty of Cabal to kill. And plenty of Psions to yeet off the wall like Salidan did.
Stasis needs a nerf. Holy shit dude. I hae refused to play pvp becasue of how op it is. And I dont play pvp much but I do enjoy IronBanner. I refused to play the past couple of seasons because of how op statuses is. Getting frozen and then shatter dived by hunters constantly really gets to a guy after a bit. So that is my stance. It needs to be tuned. I am sure it has but I am to nervous to hop in and see what chaos is happening. And since Guardian Games is right around the corner, well, cant say I will be in it much, but I wish you and team Warlock well. I am still team Titan. If we come in second, I will only accept it if Hunters are dead last. Personal opinion, Hunters are so rampant that they are cliche. I dont hate hunters, thier ego needs to be dropped a peg or fifty.
I watched the newest DLC for Doom, I havent played it. To busey in Mass Effect.
As always, it is great hearing from you.

Well interesting chapter, to say the least, you may gote some of the dates wrong but over a good chapter. Just hope you don't take long to update your other story. Also, you killed Blue dering the
Created event going on in the galactic well Cortana is going to lose her shit when she finds Blue team is Dead that's for sure unless she finds Remnant and then things are going to get interesting, to say the least. You think Salem is bad but Cortana is worse. So is Cortana going to show up at some point with her forces in the future?
Well, I just reread my comment and see that I use gote instead of got sorry need to fix that red. Also, I hope you update A Noble Rose soon.
Ok so I combined your two comments. Really helps me out. Sooo, the dates. I am going to be honest, I am horrible at remembering exact dates in things.
And yes I did. This was an idea that I have had as far as the whole Deageing thing in FanFiction. Most people just put the team through a portal or just appear on another world and low and behold they are now X years younger. This is a new twist to that. Why not kill them and bring them back in the world. I dont think I have seen another storie take this approach although I could be wrong.
And yes, Cortana is pissed. She is pissed and and full of greife. And she has at the moment a target to unleash her rage on.
As far as her finding Remant? I am not sure yet. I am going to say no, but I think I might be able to let her say goodby. Not sure yet.
And dont worry about the spelling. I dont worry about it in ANs or answering people. I do what I can to keep some close if I dont know how to spell it out.
As for Noble Rose, I am going to be working on it next. After that I am going to change things up in my updates. I feel like I am getting close to where I want to start wrapping up The Huntress and The Spartan and get that part of the story done and work on its sequale story.
So after I do Noble Rose, I will be working on that, this story or Noble Rose, then back to the Huntess and the Spartan and just bounce like that.
not-so-british-brit
It's really good, I like how you added their backstory and your writing style is good aswell. Spelling and a few minor mistakes were there, but because of how long it is I'm completely fine with it. Good luck in the futer.
:)
Thanks! And the spelling and grammar just comes with being human. I do my best and what I dont catch, hopefully the spell check will. If it dosent, well...shit.

Good to see a new chapter out. Also seeing you take my ideas into consideration makes me happy.
As for Glynda adopting blue team I admit I didn't see that coming good job it's hard for stories to surprise me anymore but you were able to pull it off. Honestly I'm enjoying this story more and more.
But now I find myself wanting other Spartans to show up. Is that wrong?
You are welcome. And I am glad to hear that you were surprised to see what my plans are for Glynda. Lets be honest, I think just about anyone who sees what they went through would want to either adopt them or put rings on them. Some. I think Cinder would not give a shit. She has a supiourority complex. I think that is what she has feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Also just wait. I have a couple surprises left up my sleeve.
And with that boys and girls, men and women of all ages 18+ that wrapps this chapter of Oly Oly Oxen Free. I am not sure what the next chapter is going to be like. I do want some adjustment with Glynda and her knew adoptive children that could blow the academy up with broken limbs incased in 50 yards of concrete, blind and def, naked and all the while getting bonked on the head by the horny police. That is somthing I am wanting to do. I might also start getting into some episodes. I think I will be starting that part off with Jaunes ark. And yes Pyrrha is going to ask Fred to lend a hand with Jaune because she knows what Fred can do...mostly. But that is the plan as of the moment. And we all know how many times that can change between now and then.
So my dear viewers, have any questions, concerns, theories, speculations, recipes you want to see thrown in to make you all the more hungary, feel free to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them all. And with all that said…
Fly Fast, Check Six, and I will see you all on the virtual battlefield.
