Six months had passed, Sam and Doms friendship well and truly thriving. They had their routine and more importantly liked their routine.

Dom would waswake at 6, quietly get out of bed and go into his parents room to check on his little sister. Often he would attempt to lift her out of her small , wooden cot that took place at the bottom of the large, king bed which belonged to Ange and Fletch. However , he had never managed to successfully lift her out the cot - he was definitely no Eddie Hall; in fact his small arms began to shake when lifting a full milk bottle. Most mornings , he would just climb into the cot to be with her.

By 7am the family of four would be awake and their morning routine would begin. Fletch would cook breakfast whilst Ange assisted Dom with giving his younger sister her bottle , then Ange would change and dress Sam whilst Dom ate his breakfast.

To say Sam was dependent on Dom for comfort would be an understatement. She needed him, his soft touch and gentle tone was so comforting. The way he would sit and hold her, never forget to put her bun bun(comfort toy) in the changing bag when they were leaving the house or when he would sit and read to her.

The sunrise on the seventh of September was magnificent. The dawn of a new day and a brand new chapter in Dom Godards childhood development. Today he would be starting primary school , although Ange suspected this would be a rather unsettling change for both of her children.

She rose earlier than usual , ironed Dom's new uniform and packed his book bag , dug out his school coat and polished off two coffees. Tip toeing across the landing as to not wake Sam up, she crept into Doms room and crouched down beside his bed.

" Dom sweetheart, time to wake up," she whispered, only receiving a sleepy mumble in response. "Come on darling , time to get up for school," these words broke her heart. Her little boy is going to school. Leaving her all day, how dare he.

"Mmm okay mummy," he yawned, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and pulling himself into a standing position. He slowly padded through into the master bedroom and reached his hand through the bars of his sleeping little sister's cot.

"Dom leave Sam be, she's sleeping, cmon lets get you ready," she smiled , luckily Dom reluctantly agreed.

The morning passed quickly, Doms teeth and hair were brushed , his creaseless uniform on and his shoes polished. He was ready for his first day of school. He was taken outside for the obligatory first day of school pictures and then whisked off to school in the back of Fletches' car.

Meanwhile , Sam had been left to sleep , both her parents hoping she wouldn't notice her brother's absence. Oh how they couldn't be more wrong. Sunlight beamed through a crack in the blinds into Sam's cot, causing the sleeping infant to stir; her eyes darted around in search of her brother but he was nowhere to be seen. Her lip wobbled as she let out an ear piercing cry. Where was Dom? He was always there, every morning as her eyes opened.

Ange darted upstairs , "Sam? Sam baby what's the matter? Heyyy shhh it's okay," her protective arms surrounding Sam continued to cry.

Desperation creeped in upon the second hour of attempting to settle her heartbroken daughter. No stone had been left unturned, she had tried everything ; dummy, bottle, blanket, bun bun- you name it Ange had tried it. Eventually, Sam had cried herself into a restless slumber, making small whimpering noises every time she took a breath.

" My poor wee bearn,Dom will be home soon sweetness," Ange sighed, watching the grandfather clock tick away.

3pm finally arrived, the front door swung open- nearly taken off the hinges. "Im home!" Dom announced in a spectacular fashion. Sam, who was sitting on Ange's lap fussing, squealed with delight- her face lighting up with joy.

Dom walked over to the sofa and took his sister back into his arms just where she belonged before beginning to recite his day in chronological order to his younger sister who seemed deeply interested despite not having a clue what he was on about, she was just glad he was home. Gripping his navy blue jumper into her tiny fist she let out a tiny sigh of relief and in that moment she was at peace.
