Scotland, Hogwarts 1944

The Head Boy at Hogwarts failed to find and remove every prank spell and trap the night before Halloween. He watched with a little satisfaction as students' feet stuck to the floor and they had to take off their shoes. Others were splashed with paint.

In order not to lose his good image, he helped the students who could not free themselves or purify themselves.

So, he made his way from the Slytherin common room to the great hall. Everything was already prepared there for the feast.

Thousands of bats fluttered on the walls and on the ceiling, others rushed over the tables like long black clouds and made the candles in the floating pumpkins flicker.

The black-haired student sat down with his peers at the long green and silver table and waited patiently for everyone else to sit down as well. He only listened to the conversations of his classmates on the side.

The Quidditch season is about to begin and in the very first match they play against Ravenclaw, who has been winning the house cup for years. But this year Slytherin had a new seeker that they had high hopes for.

But the young man was not interested in Quidditch.

Rather, he wondered why not a single professor was present in the great hall. Usually they are already sitting at their table and watch as one student after another is filtered through the gates and look for their seats.

Tonight, the raised table was empty.

The other students around him didn't seem to care.

It took a while until all the students arrived in the great hall and sat down. Only then did most of the students seem to notice that not a single professor was present.

At that moment a small door behind the large teachers' desk opened and one professor after another came in. They scurried to their seats as they whispered to one another. When everyone was seated, only Professor Dumbledore was missing and Head Master Dippet did not sit down on his golden chair as usual, but went to the small lectern in front of the table.

He cleared his throat and immediately caught the students' attention.

"My dear students! As you all know, a few weeks ago an injured girl came into our halls. So far I have asked the faculty not to say a word about the incident."

The Head Master took a short respite and immediately the first children began to whisper.

"I am happy to announce that the young lady has been saved and is now in excellent health."

The black-haired Head Boy frowned when he heard this. He had stood right over her and seen that she was no longer breathing. So how can she live with such a great loss of blood? She died right before him.

"Her name is Maélys d'Avaugour and she comes from France", Head Master Dippet continued, "As you all know, Grindelwald is there at the moment. Her village was attacked by his supporters, but she could flee in time."

The great hall was as quiet as never before. Not even the bats flew, but hung from the ceiling.

"She came to Hogsmeade by apparition and went to the castle from there."

The Head Boy thought for a moment that he had misheard. How did a little girl apparite from the north coast of France to Scotland and the walk seriously injured and bleeding up the steep path to Hogwarts? That made no sense, but he said nothing and remained silent.

"With the help of Professor Dumbledore and Nurse Jones, she has recovered well."

Some students began to clap softly, but there was no sign of either of the named heroes.

"Because Miss d'Avaugour's home was destroyed and Grindelwald's followers are still in the area, she asked me to take her in as a student at Hogwarts for a while until she can return. Of course, I granted her wish and it was yesterday she has already been sorted into her house by the sorting hat. "

For a moment there was silence in the hall, but the head of the Head Boy worked like clockwork.

"At the moment she is shopping for her new school supplies with Professor Dumbledore in Diagon Alley, but should return soon. I ask all of you students to welcome her in a friendly manner and always remember the horror the young lady experienced."

The Head Master nodded as if he were satisfied with himself: "Until the two of them get back to Hogwarts, I wish you all a good appetite and a splendid Halloween feast."

With that he turned around and loud conversations broke out in the hall. The students at the Slytherin table were also whispering excitedly about the new girl.

Out of nowhere, thousands of golden plates appeared on the four large tables, on which all the delicacies were uncovered and thus the festivities began, although no one was talking about Halloween anymore.

The Head Boy, however, did not partake any of the conversations, but kept an eye on the already closed gates of the great hall while he ate his dinner.

But they remained firmly closed.

Only when Head Master Dippet wanted to get up and dismiss the students from dinner did the heavy doors open.

It was instantly silent in the great hall when Professor Dumbledore entered. Students got up from their seats and curiously craned their heads to better see the figure next to their teacher.

The black-haired head boy stood up too. He was big enough that he could easily see over the majority of the students. But the sight that was presented to him was not what he would have expected.

He had imagined a small, delicate girl who was very shy and scared. Instead, he saw a beautiful young woman who seemed to glow with self-confidence and had an ice-cold look. She stepped elegantly towards the teacher's desk next to Professor Dumbledore and did not look at any student.

Before he even saw the green and silver colors of her uniform, he already knew that she was sorted into Slytherin.

Head Master Dippet got up quickly from his seat and hurried to the two approaching figures. He took the girl's hands in both of his and spoke softly to her. She nodded.

Professor Dumbledore stood next to them.

"My dear students, it is an honor to introduce you to Miss dAvagour. As you can see, she will be a Slytherin student indefinitely until it is safe enough for her to return home."

With these words, Head Master sent Dippet to her new home.

The girl sat down with her new classmates and the head boy saw that she was already spoken to and welcomed by several.

He quickly lost her from his sight, but the last he saw was her, shaking hands with Abraxas Malfoy.
