Penelope rushes through the ER and meets Dr. Lowe on the elevator. Dr. Lowe is met by Emily and her team. Blood starts pooling around her thighs. Dr. Lowe takes Emily in a rush, "She is going straight to the operating room. She needs an emergency cesarean."
The team steps off the elevator while Emily lets out, "Penelope… You stay… You stay with them…"
By the time she finishes her sentence, she is wheeled off and the team gathers in the waiting room. Penelope spits out orders, "Spencer and Dave, you go down to the gift shop and shop for something you would buy me as a gift. Aaron, you stay here and update the Bureau, sir…" Aaron nods, steps out, and makes a call. "JJ and my sweet baby Derek, go get information on her room and medical stuff," she takes a breath, "I am following her." Penelope yells as she scoots down the hallway following Emily, "Wait! Wait for me!"
Dr. Lowe wastes no time and starts the surgery with Penelope outside the OR. Penelope hears Dr. Lowe, "She's under. Let's begin."
Penelope prays, "Please, God, Goddesses, I don't know. I need her to survive. She can't leave us again. Let her be okay."
After a few minutes, she hears Dr. Lowe announce, "Baby A is out. It's a boy." The OR cheers. "Here comes the next one…" She hears multiple cries from the inside of the OR. "And here is Baby B, a girl."
"I already knew that," Penelope remarks quietly.
She hears the doors swing open and she rushes to follow the two newborns. As she runs past the swinging doors she says out loud, "I love you, Emily. Stay strong." Penelope waddles through multiple sets of doors, following the twins.
The doctor and nurses bring the premature infants to the NICU, or the neonatal intensive care unit. Penelope thinks nothing as she tracks the newborns. Her mind is solely focused on her new godchildren. The doctor in charge of the Prentiss babies yells, "Baby A needs a chest x-ray. And B needs a head CT and an echo stat!"
Penelope finally reaches the twins' room where one doctor is commanding all nurses in the room. She pulls the doctor aside and looks at his embroidered name tag, "Dr… Richardson, how are they?"
Dr. Richardson takes a few seconds to explain before heading back to help the babies, "Their lungs and heart are not fully developed. Baby A's lungs might have fluid in them and B has a possible small brain bleed and a heart defect. We will see. Please step back and wait in the waiting room.
Penelope waits until the babies are taken separate ways to get help to open her laptop and hack into the hospital database secretly. She gets in quickly and finds information on the babies. Before reading, she shoots a quick text to Aaron, on phone duty, that she will be back down in a minute. Penelope turns back to the computer and whispers to herself as she reads, "Baby Boy A, 3 pounds 2 ounces, born 11:10 am, October 12- OH MY GOD!" She whispers loud enough for the neighboring party in the NICU waiting room to hear.
The couple shushes her, "Shhh."
"It's Emily's birthday," Penelope whips out her phone and texts the BAU group, 'IT'S EMILY'S BIRTHDAY TODAY!' After her passive-aggressive text, she goes back to reading more information. She whispers, "Baby Girl B, 2 pounds 11 ounces. Born at 11:12 am, also on October 12."
With her ringer on mute, she doesn't hear the texts flooding in about Emily's birthday. Penelope hears the doctors wheel the babies back into the room. The doctor startles Penelope, "The babies are perfect."
"What?" Penelope looks up from her hacking laptop.
Dr. Richardson repeats, but goes further into detail, "Both have minimal to moderate anemia. Baby A has moderate to severe asthma that will most likely need to be treated heavily throughout his life. He also has Respiratory distress syndrome or RDS. Baby B has what is called a VSD or a ventricular septal defect. Approximately 75 percent of small VSDs close on their own within the first year of life or by age 10 and do not require any treatment other than careful monitoring. Both of them will be fine. We need to treat them, but other than that they will be okay."
Penelope runs up to him and squeezes him tightly, "Thank you." He nods and let's go. Penelope calls Aaron, "They are going to be fine."
"They are fine?" Aaron repeats back to her.
"They will be fine," Penelope assures him.
Aaron asks with a sigh of relief, "They are fine?"
Before Penelope can respond a nurse is heard over the phone, "Family of Emily Prentiss?"
Still on the phone Aaron and the rest of the team stand, "Yes…"
The nurse doesn't notice Penelope's breathing on speaker, "You can come to visit her. She will be awake any minute."
Penelope starts running and exclaims quietly, "I'm coming, I'm coming!" Penelope hangs up on Aaron and sprints to the elevator, then to Emily's room. The team shortly joins her, "What took you so long?"
The team is astounded at her ability to make it two floors down and still be the first in the room. Holding Emily's hand, Penelope feels a squeeze. Emily opens her eyes dramatically and slowly, "How…" She swallows down her dry mouth, "How are my babies?" The team just smiles as they stand around her bed. Just smiling. Emily asks in confusion, "What?"
Dave sits on her bedside, "We are just happy you made it out."
"Did I almost die or something?" Emily asks, shocked. She sits up as Penelope adjusts her pillows.
"No, no. You just amaze me," Dave says.
Emily asks, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Like what?" Spencer asks back.
"Like you are looking at the most amazing thing you have ever seen," Emily laughs.
JJ mentions, "Because you are amazing."
Penelope chimes in, "Resilient."
Spencer adds, "Incredible."
"Astounding," Derek steps closer.
Dave pipes up, "Superhuman."
"Basically the best, strongest, most marvelous human in the entire world," Penelope squeezes her hands.
As Penelope continues to shower her with compliments, Emily's phone buzzes. Aaron reaches for her phone, "Here, you got a text."
Emily exclaims, "I got it!"
Reaching for her phone she inevitably knocks it off the table. Aaron picks it up and quickly scans the notification. He pauses before handing her the phone. He turns to the team, "I need to speak with Emily alone."
Derek straightens his posture, "No. Whatever you have to say, you can say with all of us. I am not going in the dark again. Never again."
Emily looks embarrassed and slightly worried, "It's not that big of a deal."
"Not that big of a deal?" Aaron asks facetiously.
"It's not," Emily defends her privacy.
"What is it?" Spencer asks with great concern.
Aaron reads seriously, "They will be mine."
