Look I'm SORRY, but the coffee jelly got to you eventually didn't it? You don't have to be so angry about something that neither of us could control.
Yare yare, what I want to know is what kind of god can't have his deliveries done in a decent time. And couldn't you have just, I don't know, materialized the coffee jelly into existence?
I'm not that kind of deity, my domain is entertainment, not food. I can make quick things like snacks and such but they have no nutritional value and their taste is mediocre compared to the real thing. As for the delivery...Look the divine realm mimics the human one, have you had any luck with deliveries these days?
...Fair point. Fine, let's get on with this comedy of errors that is somehow my life.
Thank you for understanding. And what do you know, It's you're old self's first day of school! Should be interesting.
U.A Highschool, Class 1-C
'You know, when I imagined a school for superheroes I never pictured this. At least now I can blend in with the rest of the class without having someone like Eraserhead breathing down my neck.' Then again, I had to trade him in for this dubiously legal heroine instead.
"Ara ara Kusuo, who would have thought that a powerhouse like you would also be an amazing artist? You even captured my youthful glow!" Midnight said, admiring my portrait of her that I created for her hero's art history class. Not by choice, of course, my anti-psychometry gloves probably got ripped again.
'I really need to come up with a more durable alternative. This happens way too often for my liking.' And what made it worse was the attention that it attracted from my new classmates. Well, I was mostly used to that by now but one of them, in particular, was even more annoying than usual.
"Wow! No kidding, hey is that for sale? I'll give you 3,000 yen right now!" The boy with an electric quirk. Kaminari, I believe his name was, asked with a nearly panicked expression.
'3000! Just for this? That's enough to buy another one of those premium coffee jelly servings, it even covers tax!' "Deal." I accepted without hesitation. Though, seconds afterward I realized that Kaminari had a far too suspicious face for someone who just bought what was for all intents and purposes a regular piece of art. Curiosity got the better of me and I took off my germanium ring to take a peek into his thoughts.
"I see you're a reasonable man. Nice!" 'I can totally get a better price for this from those two purple-haired guys. I knew making connections early in the year was a good idea!' This along with a perverted mental giggle rang through the blonde's mind.
'Yare yare, I should have known. That annoying spirit medium followed me to U.A too. And knowing my luck that probably means that insufferable girl probably followed me too.' Ok, that might have been a bit harsh, but I'm in a bad mood and would rather avoid coming into contact with the other half of his unfortunately persistent entourage.
Placing the ring back on my hand before any *clears throat* explicit thoughts get through I stand to leave the classroom and head to lunch with the others...And of course, the previously mentioned annoying entourage was there to meet me, loudly I might add. Though that was a foregone conclusion considering who one of their members was.
"Yo Saiki! I guess the rumors were true, the whole gang really did make it into U.A. It gets me so pumped just thinking about it!" Kineshi Hairo was the first to notice he was there and made the fact known to anyone in a five-kilometer radius. And where there was one, there were many.
Hairo, quirk: Hype! He can pump himself up indefinitely, raising his physical characteristics to their peak and allowing him to keep up this output for as long as his spirits stay high! However, the calorie usage remains consistent with his energy expenditure. Be careful not to pass out on us Hairo!
"I told you guys he'd be here. Why is it that you always doubt my fortune-telling abilities after all this time?" The gyaru girl that wouldn't leave me alone spoke up.
Aiura Mikoto, quirkless. Her fortune-telling abilities are purely psychic in nature! With them, she can see people's auras, which gives her a vague understanding of the person and their potential. She can also use her ability as a form of divination, which can then be augmented by her crystal ball. Finally, she occasionally receives vague premonitions of what may come. Her power is rather esoteric in nature eh?
I should have known that she was involved with this. Especially since Toristuka would never decide to join this school if he didn't know I was attending. "I never doubted you, I was just on the fence on whether I wanted to attend this school at all. *Sigh, at least this place is cute girl central. Speaking of which, nice art piece Saiki!"
Toritsuka Reita, quirkless. His powers as a spirit medium are purely psychic in nature! He can see, communicate with, and even access the skills of any spirit around him. However, this can have unforeseen consequences if the spirit is particularly strong-willed.
Right, he mentioned that right before junior high ended. Something about it having way too many ghosts and a creepy aura about it. Spirits of old heroes liked to return to the place where it all started I suppose.
"Oh yeah, you three hung around Saiki every now and again back in junior high. I forgot that Saiki was pretty popular." Nani? I was what?! Why? How? This entire time I've been trying my hardest to be as unnoticeable and mundane as possible. Why is it that I've suddenly developed my own mini-fan club...Yare yare.
He just wished that the lunchtime went by quickly so that he could get on with his next class. Heroics 101. 'Tacky name aside, I'm actually rather interested to see how a hero course class taught by All Might would go.' ...Corny, it's going to be corny as all get out.
Minutes later, zone beta
"A pair of villains have stolen a nuclear weapon and are planning to use it in a suicide attempt to destroy a city for their evil master's true plan. Two heroes have been tasked to disable the weapon at all costs! Capturing the villains is a secondary objective, however, if the timer goes off without the bomb being disabled it will count as a loss for the heroes. Any questions?!"
…"What movie did you take the plot for this from?" Nendou broke the awkward silence that followed the great hero's overly cliche scenario.
"It was one of the earlier films that came out shortly after the second generation of quirks came along, its quite the classic if I do say so myself! Would you like the synop-" As interesting as this was some of the students wanted to get on with the exercise and were a bit impatient.
"Forget the movies! This shits live and we'll come up with something way better than some bargain bin actors could do with special effects!" While not much of a fan of movies himself, Bakugo was interested in trying out the heroic scenes found in them himself. Whether they were real or fictional he was going to be the greatest hero after all.
"Now for the teams! It shall be a three on three affair between heroes and villains. And before you all bite my ears off the teams will be selected through a lottery. After all, you can rarely if ever have the teammates you want when out in the wild real world." The students quickly took their slots and corresponding teammate's letters from the box All Might provided, each accepting or grumbling along the way.
Though none were quite as peeved with their partners as me. "Team B: Saiki Kusuo, Teruhashi Kokomi, Midoriya Izuku." Well...It wasn't so bad I suppose. Teruhashi aside I got along with Midoriya fairly well. 'I just hope that our opponents don't consist of-'
"Team B shall battle team A consisting of Tsunotori Pony, Kodai Yui, and Bakugo Katsuki!" All Might announced, crushing my hopes and dreams for a somewhat peaceful school day. Now he had to deal with a petty grudge match between the world's largest superiority/inferiority complex and the definition of a self-destructive teenager. Great.
'Yare yare, and now I have to decide on just how seriously I should take this exercise. They'll probably call me out if I hold back too much and I really don't want to deal with that.' And if I put too much effort into it then that will be yet another can of worms. What a pain.
"What luck, I got paired up with Saiki and Midoriya. We got this in the bag I'm sure." 'Though I would have preferred to be paired with just Saiki. Oh well, Midoriya isn't too bad. His quirk is a little weird though.' Teruhashi said and thought out loud... Only to be ignored by her teammates. Izuku was busy muttering up a storm about their opponents and plans and I simply didn't care.
'N-No way! Now there's two of them!' Teruhashi internally panicked at the idea of two people being able to ignore her charms. And it was only a few months ago that the green cinnamon roll would have collapsed into a blushing heap from any attention she gave him. What had happened?
'A few months of training with the number one hero and an upcoming battle against his middle school bully.' I answered Teruhashi's unvoiced question. 'His stress levels are through the roof, all of that training plus the assessment test from yesterday. And now this...He hasn't gotten to truly rest for months.'
Any normal person would have collapsed by now, maybe Midoriya was made of sterner stuff than I thought. "Call me Deku!" I remembered Izuku's immediate acceptance of his old nickname by one of the friends he apparently made in class 1A. 'Or not.'
"O-Ok, I have a plan, but it would help a lot if I knew a bit more about everyone's quirk! U-uh, if you two don't mind. I'll start, my quirk gives me super strength but my body can't handle it just yet so it injures me whenever I use it. That's about it…" A bit of a downplay but not incorrect. This kid really needed to have a bit more confidence in himself, oh well, baby steps.
"I have incredible luck, I can't really explain it any better than that. How about you Saiki?" 'Finally! I get an excuse to talk about Saiki's quirk. It's always been a mystery, all we know about it is that it has something to do with psychic powers.' Teruhashi said and thought.
Yeah, and I would prefer that it stay that way. Yare yare, but I guess I have to give them something. 'The most useful abilities I have deal with telekinesis and telepathy. If you haven't already noticed, I don't speak.' ...Oh my god they actually never noticed that. And there's the double facepalm.
'I'll choose to ignore that multi-year long blunder in favor of the exercise. You said you had a plan Midoriya?' The green-haired hero shook the cobwebs out of his head before nodding.
"Kacchan will almost definitely charge in alone and come after me. It will happen within the first few seconds after All Might starts the battle. The question is whether his teammates will join him or not. Either way, I'll meet him head-on and distract him while you two search for the weapon. Saiki, what are the limitations of your telepathy?" His plan was simple but then again, this was a simple scenario and we were all new to each other's powers.
I might as well be honest, telepathy is one of the more mundane and limited abilities of mine. 'I can read the minds of and speak with anyone within a 200-meter radius of me. With a few exceptions, creatures with low intelligence are difficult or impossible for me to communicate with, certain people are also beyond my ability to read.' Like Midoriya for example, I chose not to add. Best not to make that public.
"Wow! That's way better than I thought. Can you hear the villain team from here? And you mentioned creatures, does that mean you can talk to animals too? That's so cool!" Yare yare, he's already gone into his quirk otaku mode. A quick chop to the forehead from Teruhashi broke him out of it. A common technique that our not-so-little group learned to do whenever Midoriya went on a tangent.
'No, I can't hear them right now. Meaning they're likely on one of the higher floors. And before you even ask, yes I can levitate myself and others at the same time.' I still couldn't read the greenette's mind but I didn't have to. Again, it was a simple plan but no less effective, especially if Midoriya's prediction on what Bakugo would do was accurate.
"And you assume that my luck will give us an edge in finding the bomb right? Not bad Midoriya, it's a pretty good plan." 'Especially since it gives me some alone time with Saiki hehehe.' Yare yare, I knew that was coming. Such a one-track mind.
"Y-yeah, it's probably not the best but it's all I could come up with on such short notice. I just hope that I can keep Kacchan and whoever he takes with him for long enough to let you two find the weapon." It's too bad that he didn't know what the other enemy team member's quirks are. The plan would have likely been modified into something exceptional then.
'Oh well, it's not like I really care too much. I just want to get this over with.' Midoriya ran up to the entrance of the building we were supposed to raid the moment All Might said go. And just as planned I levitated Teruhashi and myself to the top of the building where we entered through a window. It was barricaded with rudimentary wooden planks but that barely meant anything against a psychic.
"Cool, you're really good at this kind of delicate work aren't you Saiki?" Teruhashi commented as she watched me disassemble the planks as to not cause too much noise. Which I guess was beneficial for our mission but honestly, I only did it because I hated creating too much noise. The constant explosions I could hear from below were bad enough.
'The bomb should be in this room. Yui Kodai was also left behind in order to guard it while her two teammates...Well, Bakugo went running off and Tsunotori Pony went to follow as back up.' The leftover student was understandably rather annoyed, her stoic face could fool many but I could read her emotions loud and clear.
'That asshole actually did it. He actually went rushing to that green-haired kid like an attention-starved animal just because of some childhood grudge. And to make it worse my only sane partner decided to go along with him to make sure that he didn't ruin anything. Leaving me here. Alone. Against that monster of a psychic and a good luck quirk. Damn it, they're probably on their way here right now.' The girl ranted internally, keeping her mouth shut and her ears open for any sign of enemy action.
'Yikes, I guess what they say is true. It's always the quiet ones. Oh well, best not to make this farce last longer than it needs to. Midoriya's barely keeping himself in one piece down there and I'd rather not have him break a bone because I decided to work slowly.' A quick knock on the door and it flew off its hinges easily, alerting the room's sole inhabitant to the invading heroes.
To her credit, Kodai actually attempted to stop us by throwing a few nails at us but it was all for nothing. A simple telekinetic binding prevented her from activating her quirk leaving the nails to lightly collide with my school uniform. All the while Teruhashi took the opportunity presented to her and all but skipped to the paper mache bomb, ending the first and easily the shortest round.
"T-the winner of round one is team B!" All Might stuttered through the speaker system...Wait stutter? 'Yare yare, did I overdo it?' So much for keeping things low-key. 'This is going to keep being a trend, isn't it?' I could do nothing but sigh at my luck.
Sorry Saiki, but all of those powers have to come with some kind of handicap. Anyways, I hope all of you in the audience enjoyed reading the first chapter to come out in quite a while. This is at most a secondary story for me so sadly I can't work on it too much compared to the other ones...Which themselves haven't been given much love lately.
Oh well, at least I got something out this week. Until next time.
