Author's Note

I do not own Twilight.

He focused on the noise and his glee as he processed. Edward's gift was… convenient, but limited.

The twins were… unsure.

Of course they were.

They were still trying to catch up on what just happened and itching to end Swan before she became a problem.

Which, sadly, was the only option here. It would upset Carlisle so, to have to execute this girl and almost certainly his first Turned, but what choices were there?

Things could not go as the twins had lived, nor could they turn Swan here; she was a liability for the future. Others would really behind her against his twins and that-

Well, that did upset his poor Jane so.

Carlisle might be better off without his first Turned in his coven anyway.

Caius and Marcus arrived with Felix, gliding into the room.

"Marcus, Caius, look!" Aro said. "Bella is alive after all!"

Not for too much longer, unfortunately. Oh, Carlisle would never forgive him for this. Such a shame.

"Isn't that wonderful?"

Caius moved to his throne. Marcus stopped to brush his hand as he passed and Aro closed his eyes to absorb the new thoughts on the bond between Carisle's boy and Swan.

"Thank you Marcus." He led the twins away towards his own throne. They matched his pace, two of their little strides for each of his.

"Now, the question is what to do with you," he mused.

No question. Alice could live, if she caused no problems, but Edward and Isabella needed to go. Jane and Alec looked up at him. They wanted to eat Isabella, he had no need of their hands in his to know that.

"Aro," Caius said, as he had seen in duplicate from the twins. "The law claims them."

"How so?" demanded Edward.

Caius pointed at Isabella. "She knows too much. You have exposed our secrets."

"There are a few humans here on your charade as well," Edward said.

Caius waved a hand. "Yes, but when they are no longer useful to us, they will serve to sustain us."

The twins were hungry, he realised as Caius said the words. Not the usual kind of hunger, but a deep, starvation hunger, the kind that would soon start affecting their strength. They needed to eat soon. Perhaps he should grant their wish.

"That is not your plan for this one."

True. Edward had only Turned Isabella when there were no options left. By the twins' memories, he had fought to the last for her to remain human.

"If she betrays our secrets, are you prepared to destroy her?" He waved a hand. "I think not."

"I wouldn't-" Isabella squeaked.

"Nor do you intend to make her one of us. Therefore, she is a vulnerability. Though it is true, for this, only her life is forfeit. You may leave if you wish."

Edward bared his teeth.

"That's what I thought," Caius said.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. And his poor Carlisle. He would be heartbroken.

But there were few other options here.

There would be no Newborn armies to threaten Carlisle this time, and neither would his twins be angered by Isabella's shield.

Jane's hand tightened in his. Aro turned to her, a frown creasing his brow. A mere half second later Alec's hand tightened likewise.

Hungry, roared both twins, fierce and desperate, starving like Newborns, needy and frantic. HungryhungryhungryHUNGRY!

Alice stepped forwards, offering her hand. "I've seen it," she said. "Edward will Turn Bella. She will be one of us."

Hungry, begged the twins, hungry.

And not just hungry. Nearly dying of starvation. What had been done to his twins?

"It matters not," Aro said. "The law has been broken."

"I'll Change her now," Alice said. "I'll Change her myself."

The twins whined at his side, tugging at his hands. Isabella frowned. "What's wrong with them?" she whispered at Edward.

"They're in pain," he replied.

"My twins are hungry," Aro said. "And you're flaunting food in front of them."

"No," Edward snapped, sweeping Isabella behind him. "No!"

Hungryhungryhungryneedeat.

Aro sighed. "I'm sure you must have caught glimpses. That gift of yours is… so convenient."

"I broke no laws," he said.

"But you attempted it." Aro shook his head. "Here, in our city. And, after all, you begged to be killed after her death."

Alice looked between him, Edward, and Isabella, increasingly desperate. "I'll Bite her now! I'll Change her right here!"

Aro shook his head, slow and steady. "I'm afraid that simply won't work." He would have to give dear Carlisle a call, to explain this mess. Perhaps he would be curious at the twins. He waved a hand at Alice. "You, my dear, are of course free to go. The law is the law." He dropped Jane and Alec's hands. "And my twins are hungry."
