James felt the ground shake as the opposing army drew closer. He looked to his right, where Hugo was standing, who turned to face him. He gave James a nod and unleashed a battle cry before the two of them charged forward with the Enchancian army.
He awoke with a start, sitting up in bed and trying to calm his breathing. What a weird dream, he thought. Was that a battlefield? Why was Hugo there? He looked out the window and saw that it was already morning and began to get up, pushing the thoughts of the odd dream to the side for now. Sofia's bed was empty, so she must have already gotten up.
He got out of bed and dressed himself before heading downstairs. He didn't see Sofia so he assumed that she had gone down to the blacksmith shop to see Hugo, as she often would in the mornings. He chuckled to himself. Those two totally like each other, he thought.
He didn't have anything else to do at the moment so he figured he might as well go down to the blacksmith shop, too. He walked out of the shop and down the road towards the smithy. It wasn't very far, he could already see Sofia and Hugo in the distance as they talked outside of the shop.
Seeing Hugo brought the strange dream he had back to the front of his mind. What was that about, anyway? That sorcerer from the palace asked him yesterday if he was in the battle a few years ago, maybe that was what triggered it? As he thought a bit more about what the man had said yesterday, he realized something. Why wasn't he called to the battlefield? Almost every young man he knew had been called to fight, he and Hugo were the only ones he knew of that weren't.
He reached the shop and saw Sofia and Hugo, who were talking with each other and grinning like idiots. "Morning guys, what's up?" He said as he walked up to the pair.
"Oh, hey James." Hugo said, looking away from Sofia and towards him. "We're just hanging out before it's time for me to open the shop."
"What are you up to, James?" Sofia asked kindly.
"Just thought I'd come say hi real quick too, before we have to open our own shop."
"Oh! James! You were in this super weird dream I had last night-" Hugo began, and James had a strange feeling that he already knew where this was going. "-we were on a battlefield, like we were fighting in a war or something. Anyway, it was just really weird, one of those dreams that feels too real, you know?"
Okay, yeah, so that's definitely weird. He looked at the other man in disbelief. "Hugo, you're not going to believe this, but I had the exact same dream last night."
"Yeah right, James. You're just messing with me." Hugo said in a confident tone.
"No, really." James said. "We were standing on a battlefield, I could see an army charging from far away. It felt so real, I could even feel the ground shaking."
Hugo's confident smile fell and was replaced by a look of unease. "That's… exactly what my dream was like."
"See? I told you."
"Freaky…" Hugo said with a bewildered expression.
"Wait." Sofia said. "You guys had the exact same dream? How is that possible? Neither of you have even been on a battlefield."
"I have no idea." James said after a beat.
All three of them stared at each other in wordless confusion for a minute before the silence was broken by a loud male voice from inside the shop. "Hugo! Get in here, it's almost time to open!"
"Alright, alright! I'll be there in a second! Bye guys, I'll see you later, okay?" Hugo said as he waved to them before turning and walking into the shop.
"Bye Hugo!" The siblings said together, Sofia a tad more enthusiastic than James.
"You totally like him." James said as they walked towards their shop, making Sofia blush bright red.
"Do not!" She said as she smacked him in the arm, making him snicker in response.
